MXSC - R1 - The Shadow vs The Red Dart
Sidekick, Category A: Come up with your own custom superhero and his personal nemesis, fighting each other. Build a vignette, min. 8 x 8, max. 24 x 24, showing the epic fight. A reasonable(!) overhang is allowed, like a plant, arm, leg, etc. A one stud wide black base around your creation is allowed. It counts as overhang.
About this creation
Well, this is something new. I've never built a vignette before, so this contest is a fair way out of my comfort zone. For a while I was struggling for inspiration, I just couldn't think of any good ideas for a superhero or villain, or where they should battle. In the end I decided I wanted a realistic villain, so I came up with this guy, known simply as 'The Shadow'. Intimidating, don't you think? I joke. Basically he is an unknown, athletic criminal who wears a plain black suit that is similar in style to Spiderman's, and runs around at night stealing money and generally causing havoc. Hmmm, now I come to think of it, I probably could've come up with something slightly more imaginative! Anyway, onto the hero. After some planning I decided that my superhero must have a cape, and must be a bright colour. So out of my pen came The Red Dart, called so because of his ability to fly. No one knows how he came to have this superpower, and no one knows his real identity. However, we do know why he wears a crash helmet. Well wouldn't you want one if you could fly? Imagine if you crashed! You'd definitely need a helmet. Once I had sorted out the good and bad guys, I needed a stage for them to battle. After a lot of thought, I gave up and decided a random cafe would do nicely. The vignette is built in mini scale for no other reason than I wanted to include a car...

In this vignette, The Shadow has set off an explosion inside the cafe, and was fleeing the scene when The Red Dart arrived to save the day.

Ummm... That's it.

Of course I needed an excuse for the presence of a car, so I included the road outside the cafe.

The burning interior of the cafe.

Some helpless person, stuck upstairs.

A look behind, at the interior details. Upstairs is the owners living area. If you can tell what any of the details are supposed to be, you deserve a medal.

CAUTION - NUDITY

If you're struggling to imagine what The Shadow and The Red Dart look like, here they are as minifigs.

If you're still struggling, here's some quick sketches I did while I was designing them.

The vignette without the unattached pieces.

In hindsight, I probably should have been a little more imaginative. But bearing in mind I've never built anything like this before, I think I did quite well.

PS- Basic mini minifig design was thought up by Mortal Swordsman.

Thanks for viewing!

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Clever idea using mini scale to add more elements to your creation. The minifigs and sketches are nice extras and I'm always in for male nudity, hahaha. Great work and good luck with the judges.

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 ok, MS was brilliant in the micro fig design, but, the parked viper added cachet to the scene, and that café is charming, as a city guy, I can appreciate the street details too, it s cool to see your drawings-sketches, it shows you re an artist in many disciplines, bravo!
Yeah, I need to add a link. Thanks a lot. I appreciate the comment!

Thanks a lot, George. You are very complimentary, those sketches were only very quick, and really aren't works of art. I mean, look how out of proportion The Shadows head is! ;) Thanks again!

Quoting King Andy Great microscale MOC, but I think instead of your Viper you could make a red special car for The Red Dart, once he was inspired in racing car drivers. That little guy in the street looks cool, reminds me that cartoon of Happy Meal :)
Thanks Andy. Funnily enough, I did design a car for The Red Dart. However it didn't look as good with the scene as a 'normal' car, so I didn't use it. Also, The Red Dart can fly, so he doesn't really need a car. That's why I decided to use the Viper. If you like, I'll post a picture of TRD's car tomorrow.
