MXSC-R1- Hu-Man Versus Depression
About this creation
My entry for Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest. I'm a Sidekick and building in category A.

My superhero is Hu-Man, the everyman. His arch nemesis, Depression, is battling him. This MOC is a sort of timeline of the "battle." The build is 24x24 studs, with a 1.5 plate overhang on two of the sides.

This is a bit of an arty build, the skulls in the windows represent deceased souls in Hell (hence the red backlight). I have strong opinions on suicide, and will never even contemplate doing it, no matter the situation. Compared to everything in the known universe, even the lowliest human is a Superhero, and for someone to throw away their life just because it's getting tough is an obscene waste of power. Imagine if Superman killed himself because Lex Luther burned down his house!

Here, Depression ambushes and stabs Hu-Man in the back.

Hu-Man falls, his life flashing before his eyes.

Death welcomes him.

The roof.

Thanks for viewing!

The dark theme and the Depression minifigures give of quite a morbid vibe, but that is only appropriate when building something like this.

very nice sculpting on this scene, I especially love the windows effect! when somebody feels they have nothing to lose but pain, they will be tempted to take that avenue...Billy Joel once wrote a song about it,; don t forget your second wind' sometimes things turn around, and get better, you just have to hang on! great piece Luke!

Wow Luke! I don't think that you could have done any more to make this better. Everything is perfectly executed from the textural, monochrome building to the "timeline" of his life in an instant. A beautiful representation of a difficult subject and a wonderful personification of abstractions. Highly impressive work and one worth studying further. Kudos!

A stunning build - very fitting for one competition if not, unfortunately, for the other one ;-)

What Mr. Rutherford said. Excellent idea telling a story in one creation without channging the position of the minifigs. Good luck with the judges.

Mr. Ravenchist. This thing is epic. That railing on the roof, and the window (simple and yet so effective) are perfect. This thing is not over built, but it is very precise. No wasted parts, but nothing really unfinished either. A perfect economy of effort. I booted it out of the DA MOC pool due to its subject matter, but make no mistake: this thing rocks!

I attempted to comment on this via Flickr, but every time I hit the letter "k" the page would switch to the previous build from my contacts. Weirdness, anyhow...an outside the box approach to both contests (Xeno's and the Mayo's). Dark, but well done.

Dang... This is insanely good. You used each piece to perfection, and the build itself is really deep. To me, this looks like a depressing poem in Lego form. So, good job? Yeah, good job!

This is deep. Very good build. Very good choice for Hu-Man's face up at the top. Love the time-course style of story telling here.

Wow - that's really awesome. The concept of the moc is totally unexpected. The building is great. I like the front of the house and the kind how you have arranged the minifigs. Well done!!

Very nice building throughout--I love the architecture (especially the use of those mini-corner bricks around the doorway) and the concept is great. Very thought-provoking and poignant, and the backlighting and minifigure placement really add to that. Excellent work!

An excellent, and solemn build. I totally agree with your stance; and I feel it should be heard more! I applaud your decision, and this excellent build.

Yeah, I meant 2x1 plates. Okay, the lighting made them look a bit different I guess :)

Quoting David Roberts A fascinating build. I like the time lapse (is that the right term?) as the character falls down the building: its a clever idea to be able to show three scenes with one MOC. The skulls behind the window and the decorations above the door look good too. Good luck in the competition.
Thanks David. As for time lapse, it sounds good! :)

Quoting Starscream Soundwave Now I've seen a few entries from other people, I'm starting to think I probably should have tried a little bit harder! This a really great build, I love all the little details. Excellent work, and good luck!

Quoting David the Fire Ninja Jedi Excellent structure! What are those window pieces? They don't quite look like a bunch of 2x2 clear plates.
Thanks, they are 2x1 clear plates. (Which is what you meant, I think.) Perhaps the lighting makes them look a tad off?

Quoting Deus "Big D." Otiosus Not bad. Not your style either, though. But are you sure this will count in DA?
Thanks, and yeah, this was a bit different from my usual. Broadening horizons and all that jazz. ;) I guess I'll find out, it's essentially a stylized bunker so I'm hoping it'll work.
