Classic Space Fast-trac
A fast vehicle used for exploring the surface of Mars.
About this creation

Following the "success" of the Newton III, Llwyngwril Space Systems took the design of its wheels and used one of them in an all-terrain unicycle. It is seen here zooming past some volcanic vents on the surface of Mars.

The "Fast-trac" was popular with its pilots as it was very fast and easy to manoeuvre. The single wheel was made from hinged, springy sections, which acted as suspension for the vehicle. Two motors of the same type used on the Newton III powered the wheel. These were fuelled from standard Calssic Space grey tanks, under the pilot's seat.

Stearing was accomplished via a side-stick controller and the Fast-trac carried a large scanner to give advanced warning of obstacles. The only problem with the Fast-trac was that during the design process, the architects horizontally flipped the blue-prints by accident. This resulted in the Fast-trac being built in strange, uncivilised, peculiar, lefthand drive.

Quoting Mihe Stonee beautiful David! I only always ask me how your guys come in such crazy vehicles... ;-) They must have ladders anywhere.
Yes, they do! As noted on some my other MOCs, Llwyngwril Ladder Systems made a fortune dealing with the cockpit access problems created by these craft :)

Quoting Nils O. Wow, you really built a wheel like this! It looks so freaking fragile, I wouldn't want to build one ;-)) The design is extremely cool, very "NCS-y" Great job! :-))
Thank you! The wheel is quite strong and the whole build is quite playable, apart from the wheel not really rotating through the "motors" :(

You nutty Brits and your right hand drive... =P Not to mention an all-terrain unicycle! Wonderful follow up to the Newton III!

Another brilliantly barmy vehicle! It's all entirely believable, except perhaps the left hand drive... that's just strange :-)

Quoting David Alexander Smith Really cool to see one of the mono-wheels you've been building in LDD in brick form. The red surface keeps to the mission statement 'making space colourful' and looks great too. The side mounted engine looks like some sort of lawnmower hybrid. Excellent.
I thought that I'd better prove that it couldbe done in real life. I will admit that the wheel doesn't really spin through the two motors. I'm glad you like the red base: things were looking a bit grey at first. Now, about this lawnmower thing. How dare you give away my industrial design secrets. I've sent a team of elite assassins to deal with you. Unfortunately it's a crew of CS spacemen, so they'll probably get distracted with tea and cake and chatting to new friends along the way and forget their mission. Ho hum...

Quoting Daniel Calleri Another great build! Your bases remind me that I tend to stop when I'm done with the vehicle - next time I will take some inspiration from you and build a cool base. It really finalizes the design.
Thank you! I had to build a base for this one just to hold it up. A red hinge and baseplate sort-of evolved into the final result. Fortunately there's not too much red in my current big build project, as I'm all out of red tiles now :(

Quoting Achintya Prasad Lots of technical details; its great! And hey! Whats wrong with left hand drive :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMSzln0T9ZI&feature=c4-overview&list=UUeiYXex_fwgYDonaTcSIk6w If you are as boring as me; about left and right hand drive..... Anyways, simple, but elegant; 5/5!
Thanks for your comments and the interesting video! I have a bit of a thing about RHD/LHD as I spend six or seven months of the year driving a righthand drive car on lefthand drive roads :)

Fantastic! I love the fun/lethal quality to all these vehicles. Of course, that's amplified by left hand drive. Fun and lethal is how we roll in the States. ;) Another classic!
