Superhero, X-Men, Mr. Xenomurphy Superhero Contest Entry; Round 2
About this creation
First off, awwww. This has to the cutest thing I've ever built.

All the other heroes laughed at Flash when he brought his turtle Speedy (Copyright Pending) to Show and Tell Pet Day at the Hall of Justice. "You pick the slowest of animals as your pet!?" they asked in amazement. "You know painting his shell red and yellow won't make him any faster, right?!" they laughed. "Your pets slow!" they yelled in laughter. Flash pushed aside the laughter, for he knew deep down inside--that Speedy was special. Not special in the spectacular sense mind you, but more like in the turtle sense. For Speedy...was the fastest turtle to ever live.

My entry as an X-Man to the second round of Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest 2013. Category A, Superhero Animal:

A) Build a superhero/-villain’s pet in its actual size (1:1). The pet can be any animal you like and must not necessarily be a typical pet (it can be an insect for example). Make sure it resembles the hero's/villain's costume and colors. Please include a picture of yourself, or someone you’ve conned into helping you, with the object so that we can see the proper size.

Awww. Speedy's cute bum and little yellow booties. So cute. So slow.

(If you don't like rants but love turtles, skip this next paragraph)

To be honest, this was a very hard second round! I could not decide between the two evils. Unfortunately the few things that I hate to build made up both the categories. I don't like building animals, things at scale (Specifically 1:1), and I don't ever want to make a "typical" superhero comic strip out of bricks. So I was forced, through many a headache to try many things. As my Flickr friends know, I was going to use some large scale figures--which would have been part of a 3D type/like comic page--but I gave up on that after many different tries because I hated it after about 10 minutes. Then I was forced to build the other thing I hate, animals, specifically scale animals (Curse you and your evil category choices Xenomurphy!). I thought of making an owl for Hawkgirl, and then a Two-Face turtle (Where he'd roll it over to decide!) and finally came Speedy--which after all the trouble, I actually love. So I guess something good did come out of building things I hate to build...just don't expect another animal anytime soon!

Speedy loves lettuce!

"Help I've fallen and can't get up!"

Enjoy

Great job Tim, excellent humour and a tight, cute build. The costume/ colouring leaves no doubt who this belongs to and that balance of the funny and ridiculous is right up my street! I have found that building for contests has pushed me right out of my comfort zone many times (to be honest i'm not sure where my 'comfort zone' begins and ends now...) and has brought out builds that have been well received and fun to do many times so i'm glad you have found the same with this one. With one judge left to vote I think you are in the lead so good luck and we'll see where this finishes! Yours, The Delatron.

Great work Tim. I appreciate the difficulty in building out of your comfort zone, but I think you mixed humor and 1:1 effectively (at least better than someone who purposely breaks the rules). As always, I look forward to your future builds and also love your take on this category. ~DK

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Tim, this is brilliant. Your idea and its execution make me grin for 10 minutes now. I'm also glad that the categories pushed you a little bit out of your comfort zone and, to be honest, I'd have had my problems with them, too (I've never built anything other than minifig scale, hahaha). ----- Just so the judges know: The picture of Tim's hand feeding Speedy is enough to meet the requirement of showing the creation's size as compared to a human. ----- Oh, Roy Harper resp. Mia Dearden will probably not like how the Flash named his pet ;o)
Thank you! At least I'm not the only one who found the categories challenging! And good to know my hand picture is ok--it was hard enough taking a picture with one hand strapped to a turtle!

What really makes this MOC is that you added Flash's iconic lighting bolt thingies. You could have settled for simply a red and yellow shell, but you went the extra distance, and that has made all the difference. In other words, brilliant MOC!
