ANGEL & the APE - Comedy Relief or Serious SUPERHEROES? a DC Creation
Angel & the Ape was a DC Humor Comic Book created by E. Nelson Bridwell . They first appeared in 1968 in SHOWCASE Comics #77. They were: Angel O'Day a private investigator who manages the O'Day and her partner Simeon Detective Agency with her partner, Sam Simeon. He differs from many detectives in the fact he is a talking GORILLA.Besides helping Angel, in her agency he is a comic book artist! They met many years ago when Angel went with her father, Professor Theo O'Day, on an African safari. Sam the grandson of GORILLA GRODD, grew tired of GORILLA CITY, and often drew and wished to be a cartoon artist. Sam's telepathic "force of mind" allows him to occasionally trick others! The series has been revived twice. It was revealed that Angel was the half sister of DUMB BUNNY, a member of the super-heroic group the INFERIOR FIVE. It was revealed as well that Sam worked as a comic book artist for "DZ COMICS"! A second revival was made in 2001 under DC's VERTIGO imprint, with a vastly different take. I used the cover with them on a taxi as my inspiration to come up with a yellow sports car for ANGEL. I also show her in many hairstyles!
