"Poppies... Poppies will make them sleep..."
About this creation
This is my entry for The Contest Group's Movie Screenshot Contest.

I had originally planed to do something with "Star Wars" (Naturally) specifically from "Empire" and have a scene with Cloud City in the background and the Millennium Falcon in the foreground. Well it was either Cloud City being so small or the Millennium Falcon being at a weird angle, so I decided to try something else. While I was watching "The Wizard of Oz" there was one scene that was perfect. Not only was it a short pause, but it was a nice challenge.

Dorothy and Toto, after aquiring Scarecrow, Tinman, and Cowardly Lion are just emerging from the Dark Forest when they have been set a trap by the Wicked Witch of the West; Poppy Flowers that have been set to grow over the Yellow Brick Road in an attempt to stop the group before they reach Emerald City. In case you did not know or have not seen the film, poppies, especially those that have been toyed with by a witch, make you sleepy.

The brick-built version.

The film's version.

I made this to be a one shot only and one view only build. Partly due to a lack of flowers, but also to get some forced perspective effects.

While the characters are intended to only be seen from the back, I decided to show you a few views of them from multiple directions. As you can see, they're not as pretty from the front...

...Except for Toto. He's my favorite out of the characters I built. He even looks like a little dog!

Quoting Lego Jim .... Dude, this is really awesome. I LOVE that microscale Emerald City. That would have made a really cool entry in the contest. Fantastic work.
Hmmm... Perhaps I should... Just kidding, it wouldn't pass because it's an old creation and also I took it apart so long ago. :)

Accuracy: 9.5 The lighting is a little too bright. Also Toto is so cute! Build: 9 Awesome parts usage, nice use of forced perspective especially! My only quip would be that the trees look kind of strange. They look like they're supposed to be greebled. That branch on the far right corner is especially strange. Presentation: 5 The writing is without flaws and even interesting to read. You have the links and the pictures are clear. A grand total of 23.5!!

This is brilliant. I really enjoy this type of MOC and I truly think that this is one of your best work. Excellent forced perspective without distracting the central characters who are instantly recognizable. Seeing as you are entering, I suppose that you will be unable to judge? -LB Senior

Quoting Mihai Marius Mihu Great work, the trans clear discs behind the city are perfect.
I really wanted to add that effect.
Quoting Sean B This is awesome! At first glance I thought that your build was an actual screenshot.
Woah! That's pretty cool!
Quoting The Timinater ! this is really excelent!
"Excellent!" *Shreads on Air Guitar*
Quoting clayton Marchetti This is wonderfully awesome the emerald city is fantastic I like the halo effect with the trans neon green dish . The minifigs are awesome and toto looks great ! Excellent
Either there is a weird glare from the neon green or something but those dishes are actually transparent altogether. I got the 4x4 from an STAP and the big one from the Hailfire Droid set from 2008.
Quoting matt rowntRee ...those characters truly take the win. Toto couldn't have been better. Bravo!
If I had to pick a second favorite from Toto, it would have to be Cowardly Lion because of that Ewok head. I'm really pleased I only had to worry about their backs, too. Haha.
Quoting daevster ! Perhaps your best work! Absolutely brilliant!
It must be the Magenta pieces. ;P

Quoting Halhi 141 And now for a serious comment: Excellent. Very accurate, though a few things are bothering me. Like the trees, they look almost mechanical due to the use of the old version of those technic pieces... There are also two missing, which is bothering me... The rocks also seem both rough and plain, tiling or adding more curved pieces might make it look better. Of course the city would look better in trans dark green, but I assume that you probably don't have enough...? And the poppy fields seem a bit off, somehow, they don't really convey the forced perspective.... Eh, ignore this comment, I really like it. Too bad I came up with an idea too late... Oh, and the lighting needs to be a bit darker, which is my only real concern.
I know what is and isn't wrong with it. I have a lot of pieces, just never enough of the same ones in the same colors. I'm still really pleased with as much as I was able to fit in.

Oh my God! When I first saw this, I thought they were shot in front of a still from the movie. Didn't realize those were trans pieces. Absolutely perfect FP. The trees, the mountainside, and the fields are beyond excellent. But those characters truly take the win. Toto couldn't have been better. Bravo!
