Nova Refuge Harmony "Erelim" Fighter
And the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast, And breathed in the face of each foe as he passed...
About this creation
This craft was created for my sci-fi universe of Nova Refuge. Pay a visit and check out my novel, Nova Refuge: Warrior Born!

The Nova Refuge website is still undergoing reconstruction, as I am working on cleaning up the NR Wiki and moving all the info over there.

Anyway, on to the creation...

Despite their seemingly stern demeanor - the result of their heightened sensitivity to detecting emotions - the Sarran are not a coldly practical people. Far from it; they hold aesthetics in a higher regard than any other species. Even their instruments of death - weapons and military vehicles - are made as beautiful as possible.

But one should not be fooled by the angelic look of their aerospace forces. Sarran fighters are reputed to be the best in the galaxy. Covered in artfully hidden microthrusters, their speed and maneuverability is unparalleled in both air and space.

The "Erelim" is one of the Sarrans' medium-sized fighters, the one most commonly seen in battle. It is armed with two high-intensity Sarran laser cannons that Humanity has nicknamed Thunderbolts, as well as warhead tubes capable of firing a wide variety of missiles and torpedoes.

With these weapons and the ship's incredible agility, the Erelim is usually more than a match for any other fighter in its class. Like most Sarran craft, each Erelim is also equipped with its own Breach drive, allowing for long range deployment of fighter squadrons without a supporting carrier vessel.

Sarran aerospace fuel is not quite the same as the Starlight Gas used by most other races. It burns much slower, allowing for longer trips without refueling, but something about its chemical composition leaves a vapory trail behind the craft - lovely to look at, but easy for the eye to follow, making them a clearer target. This type of fuel is not always used for shorter-range missions.

The journal of one Human soldier during the Xenocide War echoed poet George Gordon, Lord Byron, saying: "And the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast..." Somehow, the heavenly silver-and-gold appearance of Sarran craft often strikes just as much fear into the hearts of their enemies as Helexith's menacing black fighters.

With their enormous wings and love for the sky, most Sarran have an innate dislike - or even fear - of confined spaces. Their cockpits are usually incredibly spacious, with large canopies providing a clear view of their surroundings. Their Achmer allies - whose vehicles often feature no canopy at all, relying entirely on instruments - shake their heads at this. Yet they cannot shake their heads at the results of ace Sarran pilots in the field.

Though Humans use angelic nicknames for Sarran craft, Helexith usually assigns them mocking names based on harmless native bird-like species of various planets. The Slashrim call the Erelim the "Kech'kik," the name of a plump, chicken-like creature from Slasheth - one of their favorite meals.

Each Sarran pilot cares for his personal craft as if it were his own home - which it sometimes is, on deep space missions. A highly individualistic people, they frequently decorate their fighters with subtle patterns or symbols of either personal significance or relevance to their lineage. Some squadrons keep customization to a minimum in order to preserve overall group aesthetics, while others go all-out, turning their squadrons into a rainbow of colors.

Some may laugh at all this vainglorious bravado, but their targets seldom laugh for long.

Quoting Gerald F. Wow the fighter's design is really attractive. Glad to see you're posting again, I hadn't heard much from you in a while. I'm sure that you're a very busy person :D. Still happy to see you expand Nova Refuge! One of the best sci fi novels I've read. Btw, for a long time I've been wondering if there would be a book 2 for Nova Refuge. I'd be excited to know. Cheers!
I've been posting updates fairly regularly on my website, but somehow I let MOCpages fall behind so I'm working to catch it up now. :) I still plan to publish a sequel to Warrior Born someday, though right now I'm working on a fantasy book with my sister.

Interesting build. There's a certain classiness about this fighter. I see a certain royalty to the look. The shape gives it a sleek feel. I'm sure this ship would be fast and deadly. Well done.
