Blast pressed Iadsgb back against the railings but then had to sacrifice his advantage to protect himself from Fixer. In the process he got a chance to quickly glance at the door and saw the four of his men heading his way. There were still three F.I.S. to get through first he also noticed.
‘But where were the others?’ he wondered about the men of both teams. ‘Surely they can’t have fallen?’
But he didn’t have time to wonder any more as both Iadsgb and Fixer were upon him once more.
On the other side of the forcefield, the U.R.S. leaders broke back into a run as they got closer and the F.I.S. braced themselves.
Enemy blades met and once more, the sounds of battle filled the air.
Prevented from going any further, the group of men battled it out in the tight space of the corridor, escape pods lining the left hand wall.
At the same time, they could see through the wave-like shield, Blast, Iadsgb and Fixer fighting with blurred speed.
Blast parried Iadsgb and then with a clever feint, got a lucky strike in on Fixer.
The RC shouted in pain as Blast’s lightsaber cut into his upper left arm. He staggered to a safe distance to examine his wound, leaving Iadsgb to fight R.K. alone.
In the corridor beyond the shield, Padfoot as he dueled Stallion, kept glancing through the door to where his master fought for his life. But the battle was so fast, so frantic, the attacks so quick and their pair moved so swiftly, that he could hardly see where one man ended and the next began. He knew they were not Jedi but he also knew that they had some force powers and could tell that they were both using everything they had, to try and best their opponent.
He was right. Up and down the length of the catwalk they fought, lightsabers flashing, sparks flying from the metal of the walk as they smashed against it.
Blast’s blue blade swirling round and around, creating a slight blue haze around it as he, for the first time, fully let go of everything.
His emotions, his strengths, his weaknesses, of everything he knew… and just was. He simply existed and that was all he knew. He trusted the force to guide him and he let himself fall deeper and deeper into it’s embrace, hoping it would be enough to help him beat Iadsgb.
But Iadsgb was doing exactly the same. His green saber creating it’s own haze that merged with Blast’s, whirring with deadly speed, matching R.K.’s as they exchanged blows faster than either of their eyes could keep up with.
They knew each other like brothers and thus were both able to predict the others upcoming moves long before they were made.
Stallion and Padfoot were still going at each other in the corridor, as were Jamie and Nightblaze, Callum and Falcon.
Flare was stood back, watching, as there wasn’t enough room for him to join in the battle without getting in the way. So he stood back and looked on as the six men dueled to the death and beyond them, through the shield, on the bridge, the heads of each army fought their final confrontation. Nobody was going to escape this time.
‘This is it. This is the final battle of the war.’ Flare thought as he watched Blast and Iadsgb through the shimmering blue of the shield.
A cry of pain brought him back to his senses.
Jamie had managed to draw his virodagger and had embedded it in Nightblaze’s right shoulder, deep into the fleshy part between the collarbone and his neck.
Nightblaze fell to his knees at Clift’s feet and the F.I.S.’s second in command was about to finish him off but Flare leapt in to save his comrade.
He stabbed at Jamie who, feet together, slid back a step so that the tip of Flare’s blade missed his chest. Flare parried a return thrust, the two of them dueling over the top of Nightblaze who now lay on the floor, blood pouring from his wound.
Flare parried and then spotting an opening, kicked Clift in the stomach. Jamie stumbled backwards and his back hit the shield, shocking him and sending him staggering forwards again.
Flare’s fist met with the face of his helmet and the visor smashed. His feet flew out from beneath him and he hit the deck flat on his back.
Flare angled his blade carefully towards Jamie’s chest and drove down on it, but his opponent rolled to the side and the blade struck the ground.
Clift got up and yanked off his broken helmet as Flare stood up straight.
Beside them, Falcon was sent tumbling backwards across the ground by Callum who went after him. Nightblaze still lay bleeding and in agony.
Stallion had disarmed Padfoot and, dropping his own viroblade, had begun to pummel him using his hands. Padfoot blocked as many blows as he could but Stallion was a lot stronger than he and most of the punches hit home. He was still standing, but only just.
“Give up.” Said Jamie to Flare. “You’ve spent the war fighting in vain. Fighting for the team that was always going to lose. You joined Blast and his little band of renegades.”
On the bridge, Iadsgb caught the hilt of R.K.’s lightsaber and with a quick flick sent it spinning out of his grasp.
R.K. was shocked back into his body, leaving the relative safety of the force and Iadsgb slashed him across the leg and then as he cried in pain and fell to his knees, got another cut in on Blast’s lower right arm.
“You don’t owe him any more.” Jamie continued and Flare just stared at him, unmoving as to his left he saw Padfoot fall to the ground under Stallion’s barrage of attacks. Through the shield he saw Blast be disarmed and drop to the floor.
“Now surrender. Your final chance. You are already kneeling before me, as you always should have been, now all you must do is give in. Because you do know who’s going to win this war, don’t you, Blast?” Iadsgb looked down on R.K. and Fixer, who had been stood back watching, clutching his injury, moved in closer again.
“You have nothing left, nothing to beat us with. You’ve given everything.” Clift finished and Flare bit his lip, half in anger, half holding back the tears as his world slowly collapsed around him. Everything he'd fought for, everything he'd devoted himself to, was crumbling before his eyes. He looked past Jamie to his idol, Blast, who hadn’t replied to Iadsgb and was still kneeling.
R.K., panting, looked past Iadsgb’s legs to the door and saw his men surely defeated; bar Flare who was looking right back at him.
After a moment of the two men looking at each other, silent understanding passed between them and Blast nodded solemnly, Flare doing likewise in reply.
Flare looked back at Jamie.
“Not everything.” He said. “Not yet.” With a cry of determination he swung his blade in an uppercut that Jamie, surprised, only just managed to block,
and then parrying Clift’s next blow aside, kicked Stallion, who was bent over, still thumping the life gradually out of Padfoot, in the head and knocked him over.
At the same time as Flare had spoken, Blast had too. “Yeah, I do.”
Then in unison, both Blast and Iadsgb shouted, “ME!”
Blast lunged at Iadsgb and wrapping his arms around his enemy’s midriff, sent them both crashing to the floor.
Flare grabbed Padfoot’s hand and hauled him to his feet as Falcon managed to hold Callum off enough to get back up.
Blast elbowed Iadsgb in the chest and then struggled for a few moments to wrench Iadsgb’s lightsaber from his grip. He was planning on using it against him, but in the struggle, it was sent skating away across the floor.
Fixer went to move in on them but Blast dived after Iadsgb’s lightsaber. Iadsgb himself quickly sat up and span around where he sat, drawing one of his blasters as he did and fired at Blast who ducked under the shot.
The laser hit a control board and suddenly the shimmering shield covering the doorway faded out of existence.
The six leaders still on their feet in the corridor noticed the disappearance of the shield and now with more space opened up to them, moved onto the bridge.
