MOCOlympics Round 1: Scientific Scales
About this creation
2013 MOCOlympics Round 1
Sign of Zodiac: "Libra"

Hey all,

Back again for the yearly MOCOlympics! These games are always loads of fun, and they challenge my creativity while putting me up against some really talented builders. I don't really have that much time to compete this year, but I shall try my best to be a competent adversary.

I chose to build a set of fully functional scientific scales for the category because I was really interested in designing a clean, organized, and tidy build that doesn't use that many pieces. The scales seemed to present a really good opportunity to try out a couple techniques I have been playing with (namely the chains held onto the grappling hooks and the drawer that pulls out. I tried to make it as accurate as possible to actual scientific scales. These scales include details such as a leveling mechanism, an arrow on a meter to show how level the scale is, working weight differential, a full set of small weights to accurately and precisely weigh something, movable elements like opening door, opening drawer, and slideable mechanisms! Anyhow, hope you all enjoy it!

SOLI DEO GLORIA!
-Blake

Quoting Chris Bulliner At first glance this looks like the real thing, and then in a way it is the real thing. May I include it in a magazine I am making for a school assignment? The magazine will not be published it is just a school assignment.
By all means, thanks for asking!

I had to really look at this one. I would never have even thought to build something like this out of LEGO. Details are exquisite, I really can't say anything that hasn't already been said. Just wonderful, you inspire me in my techniques and subject matter.

At first glance, this seems very simplistic. However, examining the details like the use of hooks to hold the chains, the opening drawer with very convincing details, and the sheer elegance of colour and design changed my mind. Very well done Blake, I saw scales like this in a very old Cuban pharmacy, and you nailed it.
