The Book

"I am reaching, but I fall. And the stars are black and cold... as I stare into the void, of a world that cannot hold. I'll escape no from that world, from the world of Jean Valjean... there is nowhere I can turn, there is no way... to go on!"

-Inspector Javet from the 2012 movie

I chose to depict an emotionally filled moment from the book, a scene with the main antagonist of the book, Inspector Jarvet. Without spoiling anything, this was a great moment... filled with the desperation and utter uncoiling of Javet's passion.

The bridge is based off a real bride that crosses the Seine, the river were this moment takes place.

Also, thanks to the judges and other members of the Reading Olympics. You really made this a great contest!

Quoting Maxime MaxSamAlex Great creation on a great book! This scene was one of my favorites. (Although the name is Javert, not Jarvet) Thanks for posting!
ARGH! I just noticed that! That's what happens when you have a stupid American like me try to spell a French name from memory!

Nice work capturing this scene, Thatch! Your bridge design is very good, and your Inspector Javert minifig is great. I also like your streetlamp technique here. Well done!

Quoting Stephen Boe Very good build! I think the slopes and colors make the bridge look kind of rocky, but it still looks good!
Yeah, the bridge it's based off would have been sightly harsh and forsaken. Sort of like Jarvet. :)

Quoting A. Sargent All in all a rather nice build. A bit bland, though. Even if there isn't supposed to be much. 2 points all the same.
I was aiming for a bit of a simple build, driven more by the impact of the scene. But thanks anyway!

Quoting Halhi 141 Incorrect title aside, the build looks pretty nice. Lighting could be more dramatic though.
Dramatic? How so? And, I fixed the small inconsistencies with the title, link, etc..
