EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle
The EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle from the movie "Stripes".
About this creation
The EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle, the iconic vehicle from the movie Stripes, which could transform from an RV to an AFV with the push of a button. It is equipped with a pair of machine guns, a rocket launcher, multiple flamethrowers, an anti-tank cannon, and a really ugly paint job.

Alongside the EM-50 are our heroes, John Winger and Russell Ziskey. I can still vividly recall the dialogue that set them off on their fateful mission:

Winger: C'mon, it's Czechoslovakia. We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip right out again. We're not going to Moscow. It's Czechoslovakia. It's like going into Wisconsin.

Ziskey: Well I got the sh*t kicked out of me in Wisconsin once. Forget it!

Quoting Bill Ding NOOOOO I'm watching this movie right now and I wanted to be surprised by the weapons systems! But I really like your model!
Thanks! Hopefully, knowing about the EM-50s "secret weapons" didn't spoil things too much for you. I can watch Stripes over and over again. It's one of my all-time favorites.

Quoting Scott Bourgeois Nice EM-50, Matt. My favorite all-time movie, represeted in Lego. Too bad you didn't include Capt. Stillman messing up things. ;)
Thanks! I have to admit that I didn't think of adding Stillman. I did, however, give serious thought to putting Sgt. Hulka on top of the EM-50, hanging on for dear life as Winger and Ziskey crashed the gate at the Czech border.

Quoting Chris Hines This is AWESOME!! Wanna make another one and sell it?
Thanks. The model was built in LDD. I'm not even certain whether all of the bricks exist in the right colors (although I could probably get close enough). In any case, I'm not really in a position right now to put in a large Bricklink order and build it for real, but thanks again for the interest.

Quoting Scott Bertaut And I thought Ben 10 was what came up with the idea of a tricked out RV. This thing is even the same type of RV, Ben 10 must have ripped this off! Anyway, great work on this, loots of nice details. I may have to watch this movie sometime myself, must be good to build such a nice MOC from it.
Thanks. I wasn't aware of the Ben 10 RV until you mentioned it, but you're right -- it looks like it is based on the same type of GMC motorhome as the EM-50. Definitely watch Stripes if you have the chance. It's worth the time to see it at least once.

Quoting sinan bitižik Very realistic design.. I like this design
Thanks. The basic design is based on a 1970s era GMC motorhome, for which I was able to obtain some technical drawings. I tried to match the movie modifications as best I could, but I only had pictures to work from for those.

Quoting Henrik Jensen I have never seen or heard about this film, but anyway, your EM-50 UAV creation is really great, in particullar the rounded rear end with opening tailgate. Love your miniland figures.
Quoting Daniel Mayhew Totally awesome, and that's a fact, Jack!
Quoting Nick Barrett Thanks for reminding me of this great film with this brilliant moc :-)
Quoting E T WoW...awesome !!!
Quoting Aaden Hughes Fantastic!
Thanks, guys. As Winger said after getting his shoes shined, "I don't think I've ever been this happy."

Quoting Mike Johnson Ah, the memories this movie brings back. I still remember John Candy holding his little pile of hair after they shaved his head. If only war was this silly in real life! Great job by the way with the build. You definitely captured the look of it!
Quoting John H Absolutely Amazing. Fantastic work.
Quoting Dr. Monster Fantastic MOC! Great shaping, details, and colors. Well done.
Thanks guys! John Candy's performance definitely helped to make Stripes great. My memory of him is when he got off the bus and said "How's it going, Eisenhower?" to Stillman. John Larroquette and Warren Oates were pretty good as well.

Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Absolutly lovely! Love the 50-ies style. Thats not "an ugly paintjob" to me!
Thanks. The EM-50 was actually based on a 70's era GMC motorhome. There were a lot of colors that were in vogue then (e.g. goldenrod and lime green) that have fallen out of style, but I guess, ugliness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder :-).
Quoting Wesley Kreiss Holy crazyiness - I Love it, love it! Such an excellent MOC. Very creative and looks just like it! Hard to believe some did not know where the EM-50 came from. 5/5+
Thanks. And I agree -- Everybody owes it to themselves to watch Stripes at least once.

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 lol, wow, that goes way back! I loved that movie and vehicle, you make me want to get it and see it again, you did a great job on replicating the rv! bravo!
Thanks. Stripes is one of those movies I pretty much never getting tired of watching. I've had the idea to do this MOC in my head for a year or two, but kept putting it off, but some of the recent TV/movie-based MOCs here and on Flickr inspired me to finally give it a go.

Quoting matt rowntRee Boom shaka laka laka! Awesome! You need Sgt. Hulka on the top. XD Great movie and a great moc. I can never look at that style of RV and not call it an EM-50 (In fact, they're nickname is "Murray".) Love all the details and, of course, the paint job!
I had thought about including Hulka and the girls, but I got a little lazy toward the end of the build. But now I might have to go back and add him in. The scene where they crashed the gate with him hanging on for dear life is pretty memorable. Maybe I'll include the two Czech border guards as well.

Quoting John Fink Very cool. I've never seen the movie all the way through, but I recognize the RV. Nice to see an unusual movie vehicle on the site.
Thanks. I highly recommend you watch the whole thing sometime if you have the chance. It is still one of my favorite movies -- Bill Murray during his prime.
