M.O. Round 2 Barrett K. vs Chris Roach
For the MocOlympics. Round 2!
About this creation
Well, after three years(?) of trying, I finally made it to round 2 of the MocOlympics. And what do I get as a reward? I get to go head-to-head with one of the greatest builders around, Chris Roach and his awesome creation. Best of luck Chris!

So, the category was On that note! Pick a desired piece of music, listen to it carefully, and then create a MOC artistically representing it in LEGO. Select something non-lyrical perhaps! What we don't want to see is a typical rock band standing on a stage.

I pondered this topic for a while, and just couldn't pick a song that I liked. Finally, I decided on Bon Jovi's classic "Wanted Dead or Alive". Now, I know this build isn't exactly representing that song. I chose to take more of a literal approach to the topic and go straight from the lyrics, "A steel horse I ride". Thus the idea was born, and the rest is history I suppose. Just a note, this doesn't exactly look like a horse... But whatever I guess.

Here we can see a side view of the "steel horse".

A front view, showing my least favorite part of the build, the head. Darn, I don't like that head. Oh well.

Here we see my favorite part of the build, those fine horse legs! This was definitely my favorite part to build out of the whole thing.

Another shot showing off the rear legs.

A shot of its back, all decked out in "steel".

Check out that rear. Complete with a tail to swat those darn steel flies.

Another shot of the legs showing off the sides. Man, I can't get enough of those legs.

Yeehaw! Ride like the wind bullseye!

Interesting take on the song. I always thought of a big ol' Harley but I love this idea instead. I can just hear the metallic clink of it walking. Excellent!

Yeah, more wolf or cat than horse, but i still really like it! Unlucky on not advancing, but good build.

I love the greebling and what you did with the legs. But while it truly looks awesome, I don't feel it quite screams "horse" to me...more like giraffe or even mule. Or even wolf. Just not quite like a horse. But well done nonetheless!

I like the idea of taking the central image of the song. Lovely robo-horse built as a result. Neat stuff, but Chris inched it by capturing more aspects of his song than you, and gets my vote. A close one, good luck next time around.

I enjoy the greebly goodness of this, but ultimately I find Chris edged you out in terms of aesthetics by the slightest of margins. Compounded with your tenuous category connection, and he earns my vote. All the same, great design, and congratulations on making it past R1 this year!

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Okay, Barrett, this is not easy. I've had a good, long look at your and Chris' creations and the decision I have to make is hard. I really dig your design - the proportions, the details, the shape ... everything is excellent. You would have gotten my vote, but you missed your category. A song is a story and you can't tell a story with a picture of a steel horse (as cool as it is). Good luck with the other judges nevertheless.
I completely understand. I kind of realized this while I was building it, but I went for it. I appreciate the input, thanks!

nice - but ask the judges nicely and quickly to edit, as you forgot the mandatory link to the MO homepage.
