M.O. R2: Matthew Oh vs. Chris Stone
About this creation
2013 MocOlympics Round 2:
Matthew Oh verses Chris Stone and his awesome entry.

Category: Brains vs. Brawn
What unfolds when athletes and geeks go head to head? Or should I say, arm to head? Build us a battle of mind verses muscle. Who do you think would win?

Hey all,
Just barely got an entry in! Built it all today (except for the base) after church. Yeah, busy week and 1/2 of school and life (and also a different Avalonia backstory build, will post that soon).

If you don't know how it relates to the category, basically, the "Brawn" is the castle, super thick, and impregnable (or they think). But then came along a new era of weapons, with the Chinese alchemists inventing gunpowder, and along came cannons and guns ("Brains").

So I trade new techniques, with using new pieces I got. A big inspiration was Mark Erickson and his (LCC) Restoring Justice creation. Thanks Mark! :D

Sorry for the bad pictures, I was rushed tonight. ;)

Enjoy!

The soldiers on the tower being thrown off their feet by the explosion.

He looks ready for battle (not). ;)

'

The enemy with new and improved weapons.

The thickest castle I have ever made.

...

Explosion

...

And the overview to wrap it all up again.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Matthew Oh

Quoting Annie Corder This was a very tough match up to judge. But over all I think you edged Chris's build very slightly, so my vote goes to you, congrats and welcome to round 3!
Quoting Chris Phipson Like Ian said, lots to consider in this match... What won me over in the end was (oddly enough) the dented/broken walls of the castle. If you hadn't included that my vote would have gone to Chris. You've got my vote and good luck with the final judge! ~ Chris.
Quoting Ian Spacek This was a very tricky one to judge (lots to consider), but in the end...Chris has my vote. Best of luck with your other judges Matthew! I could still see this one going either way.
Yay, thanks Judges! Round 3! :D

Awesome work with the dents! The explosion's overall shape looks just a little orderly for a cannon shot, but considering your massive time constraints I think you did a bang-up job. Good luck!

Those dents are the best! I wonder what it was like for those who faced the first battle with a cannon....scary.

I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed. While the MOC is pretty good, it lacks any of the originality that separates a good castle build from an average one, and I also wish you would have stepped outside of your comfort zone and built something that you haven't before. Good luck anyway.

What a super aweosme build! I really like your castle building style! This castle looks like a bulked up version of that helms deep wall set! The dents in the wall are great touches, and the explosion looks awesome! Great work!
