The P-38 squared.
About this creation
With thanks to Jon Palmer for creating the P-38 Space Contest, I am pleased to present the PP 1444 X, my entry to the contest. The P-38 is an inspiring design and the other contestants have done some wonderful things with it. Regardless of the outcome of the contest, we have many wonderful MOCs to show for it. So, here's my slightly unorthodox take on the design...

You can, of course, pick a direction and go forward...

Sitting on its launchpad, the PP 1444 X offers a handsome silhouette.

...So the cockpit rotates, allowing the pilot to choose his/her own 'up' without rotating the whole ship.

In the cockpit is Captain Brock, the I.I. test pilot and all-round-nice-guy.

Ditto.
Imagine if you will, some spacey yet insistent electronic music, not that pseudo-classical Hollywood dross we are subjected to, all too often.

That's the holoscreen in front of him, in case you're concerned about visibility. At the usual speed of this thing, a 'windshield' would be quite useless.

There are more controls on the inside of the canopy.

'Glass' canopies in space are rather a conceit, but they do look cool.

There are many mounting points for 'scientific' equipment.

Caution: very high voltage, very high radiation, very high levels of ozone, may cause punning, professional driver on closed course

I put pen to paper at the start mostly to remind myself to build it. Absent, you know, minded...
Graph paper can be so useful when used correctly...

A diagram delineating the key P-38 design points, for the benefit of the naysayers. Yes, there's a paragraph on the back of this one too..

* Deja Vu? The lack of down in space may be related to a dearth of ducks. As for up.... hmmmm....

Amazing build! Bravo to you for pushing the envelope and still keeping the P-38 resemblance in tact. The center structure blew me away and inspired me to try something so complex... whether or not I'll do anything with that inspiration is at best unlikely though. Oh, I love the sliding cockpit! |

Ley, I just don't even see how this ship is even possible. Mind-Bending SNOT indeed! I don't understand how anyone can give this a score lower than 5. It's just so...intricate. It all works together with no gaps or anything, and yet is completely wierdly built. Wierd in a wonderful way of course. |
