About this creation
Designed by railroad pioneer Phineas Davis, its distinctive vertical pushrods earned it the nickname "Grasshopper." The B&O Railroad ordered 20 of these locomotives--some served for more than 60 years!
I built this model in about 1988, when all I had was 12v. Amazingly, it still works great!
Since the 12v motor can't get power from the rails, it's powered from the top by a wire that leads from a 9v tender behind it. The contacts on the 12v motor are taped down with blue masking tape.
