M.O. Round 4: David. Vs Blake Baer
About this creation

For Round 4 of the 2013 MocOlympics.

Link to my Skilled Opponent: Blake Baer and his amazing entry.

David. vs Blake Baer
This round was a 'Movie' round. Our choices were: Demolition Man, Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi, The Matrix (original)
I chose the Dagobah scene from Star Wars, where Luke goes to complete his training.

I won't caption them, because I am REALLY REALLY running late on time here. (Bear with me) Pun not intended. :P

Thanks For Looking!

Soli Deo Gloria!
And Good Luck, Blake!

I like the trees and the hut but the ground could use some more detailing. Merry ChristMOCs! --Blast--

Nice home and MOC, but a little bit more detailed surface would be nice and the second tree should not be so edged.

Don't know anything about Star Wars, for sure I'm delighted by your trees and the pond! The trunk and the roots are fantastic.

Generally awesome, the hut being my favourite, but I feel like there's too much space in between parts of this. The tree, x-wing and the hut could be closer together, or there could be vegetation on the floor - lots of it. But I don't think anyone of us has the pieces to cover everything in shrubbery, so great work!

Quoting David the Fire Ninja Jedi Wonderful entry David! My favorite has to be that tree! Excellent work getting those roots to look nice. I like how Yoda's house opens up. The mud puddles are also a nice touch. Nice X-wing too! Awesome!
Thanks David! :D

Tough luck on not advancing. While the x-wing is good, it's the organic elements here that really caught my eye, the tree and Yoda's hut. I always struggle to get convincing organic shapes in our lovely block medium but you have done both elements masterfully. Well done David.

Quoting Makok the Dwarf I love the tree! I love the playing ability with Yoda's hut! The X-wing is incredible. (I think it's an X-wing. I'm not a very good Star Wars dictionary.) Good luck! :)
Thanks! Yup, it's an X-wing. The doohikcy on the pack is a turner, I included a function where you could twist the knob and make the wings go into attack position, but I have to finish it, take pictures and post it all in 10 minutes so I didn't Have time to connect the wings properly, and have the function. So, they are stuck in the one spot, unless I find the motivation to complete the function. :)

Quoting Leda Kat =^..^= Yoda's hut is wonderful. You've captured its charm and cosiness perfectly. It makes me want to shrink down to minifig size and hang out there. That huge tree is also something else. Well done on recreating the scene so superbly.
Thanks, Leda! For an extremely talented Mocer to say this makes me feel honored. I spent the most time on his hut and the X-wing, I'm glad someone noticed the components that make the whole moc up! It makes me a little angry when people just see the emptiness and focus on those without really giving the detailed parts a second glance. Thanks again. :D
Quoting the Judges
Well, thanks anyhow. I knew I'd been done for when he posted, but at least I got my entry in to say I got to compete against him. :D Good luck next round, man!

While I love that hut design, the vast emptiness belittles the density of Dagobah which gives it it's mysterious and ominously dark character. Really great components, but it needs the filler. Blake gets my vote, but you were definitely onto something.

Great work here David! There's truly some amazing details here! But I feel yoga's hut should maybe another 6-10 larger....because like your round 3 entry the ground seems a bit barren. All and a lll this is amazing;) Best of luck! ~Brick

It just isn't swampy enough for me, perhaps something to do with the base plate being grey. Nice sculpting of various elements, but ultimately Blake's scene was just too good to beat.

Dagobah is just a hard scene to do in large scale because it is so detailed and busy. It's a nice build and I love the play feature of Yoda's hut opening up.
  October 28, 2013
I think the whole scene looks a bit rudimentary because the base is too large and there is not happening enough - a mistake I also made once. A smaller MOC with a higher level of detail would have been better and though the single elements are quite nice, my vote goes to your opponent.

Great elements here! The whole scene looks like an actual Lego set. I love the Yoda-less blanket. The trees are wonderful and the X-wing is spot on. You captured the somber mood of the scene quite well. I think I would have liked to see more vegetation along the ground. Other than that, this is a wonderful job. Excellent and good luck!

Loving that tree. Although, the terrain seems a bit flat. I see you went to the Lego store, as I also got a whole bunch of those 1x2 dark trans ;) Good luck!
