Dol Guldur
Dol Guldur, as you may or may not know, is where Sauron (a.k.a. the Necromancer) hid after he was "destroyed," and before the War of the Ring. It plays a huge role in the Hobbit trilogy, and I can't wait to see what they do with it next!
About this creation

I really love what they're doing with this whole sub-plot in the movies...sure, it's not EXACT to the book, but it is mostly true! Plus it's something new and interesting to see in the films!

This originally started of as Cirith Ungol, but slowly transformed into Dol Guldur, for reasons I can't exactly remember.

"I saw him, Gandalf. From out of the darkness, the Necromancer has come!" -Radagast

the whole thing is split into a few pieces...these next few pics should speak for themselves for the most part:

Pull the lever, and open the staircase...but watch out for Thrain!

Something is hidden behind these stairs...

the Necromancer, the Morgul blade, and a Palantir (rumors speculate that there is possibly one located in Dol Guldur, so that's why I included it...but we'll have to wait for the next movie to know for sure)!

another ominous shot of the Necromancer

"Thrain, Thorin's father, was driven mad by grief. He went missing, taken prisoner or killed; we did not know..." -Balin (although we actually do know that, he too, resides in Dol Guldur, as seen in the trailers)

Pull the skull and open the trap door! (wow that was corny, haha)

it can be arranged in many various ways...here are just a few;

Thrain, the Necromancer, and Gandalf

and some artistic/misc. shots to finish it off!

(yes, these two are different, the focus is not quite the same on both)

So this was intended to be "set-style" and I made it before the actual Dol Guldur sets were announced, just didn't have time to post! I think it turned out pretty good, but any sort of comments are welcome I guess...thanks for stopping by - Nick

This is probably the best representation of Dol Guldur Iíve seen! You have captured the look of the fortress at both the macro and micro level really well! With the inclusion of the sharp spires, arches and bridges, different staircases and how each section is designed with interesting details in every angle plus the ability to rearrange everything really does great job of representing a scary, maze like ruined fortress. Very well done indeed!

great organic aesthetic with the rockworking. Organic is the hardest to do but you nailed it. And very nice use of those spiral stairs as a door to a secret passageway!

Quoting Sketchy Mythran Where do you get all this stuff? I read the hobbit and it doesn't mention any of this stuff. And I didn't see thrain in the trailer.
What stuff? I can give you answers if you just be a bit more specific :P

Nice job, I love the 2D rocks with their arches and whatnot. I agree with your opinion too; I like how Peter Jackson is showing the battle @ Dol Guldur which was barely mentioned in the book (don't get me wrong - JRR Tolkien had good reasons for exclusion as well). The photography here also adds to the creepy feel of the whole thing. :)

Quoting David . Nice! I love all of your models, even if you post very few. The little play functions are awesome. :D You've probably grown sick of the question, but did you ever rebuild the Chamber of Secrets? It looked ( and sounded) really promising. :)
It was very promising....until it broke. I used a lot of the pieces for this a actually...I may have some pics surviving on my old phone, but I never really completed it. I'll check and see sometime, and maybe I'll try to transfer them onto the computer. It really did look cool! The base is still in tact, as wellas the floor, so maybe I will finish it sometime, but I'm not sure. I'll try my best to recover the old photos, so you can see how far it came, and don't worry its not annoying! :)
