Upon landing on an unknown planet, each task-force would send out many 'RHINO' units stationed within the portable station. Rhino's are medium sized vehicles that are heavily armoured to protect the driver from possible hazards from the new worlds. Each human driver would also be accompanied by a robotic partner to aid them in their searches. In this case, the robotic companion has been stationed on the Rhino's rear turret which fires plasma that, depending on which setting, can either just deter a would be attacker, or melt through solid rock. Much mining is done on the higher setting equipped on drilling platforms.
This particular planet is inhabited by many species of large insects that also contain some mechanical attributes. "Mother-Scorp" is the nickname for one of these insect variants which resembles an enlarged scorpion and tends to wander close to the human's landing zone. In-fact the humans have landed within the scorpions territory and so they are at fault. The nickname of "Mother" came about after it was seen with smaller scorpions presumed to be it's young.
A powerful shot can break through the tough carapace armour and even rupture the line of acid that flows from the organ in the body through the tail and to the outlet at the end.
Though young, many of these scorpions are able to fire a limited supply of an acidic compound known to lightly burn the Rhino's armour. The larger variants' acid can cause critical damage.
Even though the higher levels of gravity have caused these insects carapaces to become very robust, the younger creatures still fall to mid level plasma fire.
