Caleb's 4x4 Contest- Round 4: Tragedy
My R4 entry to the 4x4 contest.
About this creation
Caleb's 4x4 Contest
My opponent, Justin M, and his entry.
Category: Tragedy

Earthquakes are devastating and tragic natural events. They strike in an instant, leaving behind crumbled buildings and destroyed lives. After an earthquake, rescue crews must carefully search the dangerous rubble to rescue survivors...or recover the bodies.

Overview.

Sideways 1.

Sideways 2.

The upper part with rescue guy.

Upper part view 2.

Upper part no minifig.

The lower part with the trapped and injured victim.

Lower part view 2.

Lower part no minifig

Overview with no minifigs.

Detail shots.

With walls, no minifigs 1. It's roughly 18 2/3 bricks high.

With walls, no minifigs 2. There is a minuscule amount of overhang due to some of the techniques, but it is almost nothing.

The minifigures.

Back of rescue guy.

FOURTH WALL:
I am very pleased with how this turned out. It may look haphazard, like I just threw a bunch of pieces together, but it actually took a good deal of time to make it sturdy and look good. I saw the exposed rebar technique somewhere on Flickr, not sure who made it, but I really like the effect. I also really like the parts I combined on the rescue guy.

Please rate and comment! Good luck Justin!

Great detail in every part, and I love how you made it look so rickety!

And with that I advance to the final round! Justin, you were a fine opponent with some very nice entries. It was an honor to compete with you. I hope to see you in next year's contest!

New judge here. Love it! The detail, the minifigs, and the overall atmosphere of "tragedy" really sold me. You have my vote!

Quite amazing, what you did here in such a small space! I especially like the way the top and bottom blend so well! All in all, great job, and you got my vote!

Great job fitting so much detail into so little space. I LOVE the exposed wooden framework; looks really good.

I'll start off by saying that as this contest moves further along, it gets harder to judge the entries! The wall and rubble was quite impressive, and I like the exposed rebar thing you mentioned! Overall, I liked your build better and I give you my vote! However, the presentation, I think, could definitely use some improvement - sideways pictures and yellowish light doesn't exactly bring out the MOC if you know what I mean. Good luck with the other judges!

Brilliant work! I can tell you put a lot of work into this. It fits into the category perfectly! The crumbled concrete and the exposed rebar is just fantastic! You get my vote!

Great job! You've really done an excellent job of capturing the look of a crumbled building within the constraints of the 4x4 footprint.

Whoa. Great work! The details and design are amazing. Clever design of the victim, too, with the bit of metal on his head and his arm all bloody.
