Classic Space Pocket Money Contest II - Space Fire Response Unit
Classic Space Lego Fire Cruiser and Rescue Buggy
About this creation
Here's my entry to the Classic Space Pocket Money Contest II.

Well, what is a spaceman to do if his Surface Explorer catches fire? (Let's forget that fire needs oxygen, Lego Space never needed any logic, just fun!)

You call these guys of course!
Here's my Space Fire Response Unit, consisting of Fire Cruiser and Rescue Buggy.
Quite a sizeable set, back when I was a kid I would have had to save up my pocket money or use some birthday money to buy this one.
Not out of my reach but well worth saving for.
It fulfils the 30 to 100 piece rule:
The main ship consists of 59 parts.
The buggy consists of 38 parts,
And the 2 Space Fire Men.
Total of 99 parts.

The two yellow tanks on the sides of the ship are huge water cannons.

This is how the buggy connects to the main ship.

Ready for action!

Shovel on the front to clear objects, large water tank on the rear with top mounted 4 way water cannon. Equipped with radio and axe.

Alternative model one: Two Man Space Explorer Craft.

Alternative model(s) two: Deep Space Jet with Service Truck.

All the parts:

Thanks for looking.

Thank you everyone for the great comments and messages of congratulations. This has been a total surprise and a great honour. A big thank you to the 2 Davids for hosting such a great contest and putting in so much time and effort. Looking at all the entries in this contest I wouldn't know where to start with the judging. Congrats to Nick and Pico, your builds were amazing.

This has an amazing 70s toy aesthetic going on. Tapped straight into the Micronauts I think. Two great models and what could so easily have been a mixed bag of colours has been pulled off seamlessly. 9 The two alternatives not only look great, but sing to me in style of the models you actually found on the rear of the boxes. I love the two man open top space speeder. 10 The drop tractor and space fire scheme provides almost unlimited fun. 9 Possibly the most in tune CS build in the whole contest, I canít help but give you top marks here. 10

A highly suitable colour scheme, kept neatly in blocks to produce a good effect. I like how the buggy is hidden at the back, giving the spaceship nice, clean lines. 8 You must have spent quite a bit of time thinking about what parts to use and how they might be re-used in the alternatives. You used 99, were you tempted to add that extra greeble and go for 100? The two man Explorer is a typically CS build and the Deep Space Jet is a real contrast to the main spaceship. I think that the thing that is missing from the alternatives are the moving parts and play functions that the main build has. 7 A super spaceship and buggy combination. I like how the buggy locks securely in place for the whole ensemble to be swooshed about. I like how the ship and buggy can operate independently. Two minifigs add to the play potential as well. The buggy has the moveable scoop and foam cannon, plus a couple of tools for the minifig to use. There's so much to do here. I suppose that they don't have to operate exclusively in Space but could zoom back to Earth to fight fires too. Loads of fun. 10 Yes! Firstly the colours are all from the 80's. Although there are a lot of modern parts in this build, they're cleverly used and the studs-up build gives a retro feel. The overall shape has echoes of LL918, our first prize this year. The concept of space firemen seems very impractical, in a high useful and essential way, and so much to do with the Lego of the 70s and 80s. 10 Total 35. Congratulations on winning. My inner ten year is already saving his pocket money to buy this one!

That's a cool idea: CS firefighters, a great theme mix! But my brain keeps saying: "There is no fire in space!" - I can't stop it ;-)) What the *beep*, it's fun! :-)) There are endless possibilities for a theme like this and many fnctions that can be added to the models. Great idea and a great design! Good luck in the competition! :-))

Fun set, but a bit unrealistic: Space Firemen would self-detonate from the excessive awesomeness.

great combination of wheels, wings, and colors. This model has a lot of potential as a starter kit for a young builder's collection. I can see that a lot of thought went into parts selection and study of classic space building methods.

Great entry. It shows the merits of having a few sizable pieces to create bigger models. And you're right; who needs logic ?! Good luck.
