MN-413 Planetary Defender

The Planetary Defender is a staple of Monotron's fleet. Inspired by the legendary LL-924, the MN-413 is a generic space craft designed to transport equipment and goods, or to fend off pirates. The massive engines allow for high speeds, and are equipped with air intakes to boost atmospheric speed. The vertical fins give the Defender astonishing maneuverability; making for a fantastic ship.
About this creation
Introducing Monotron! Symbolized by vehicles with Dark Red and Sand Blue, the adventures pilots established the faction after the fall of Unitron. The MN-413 was one of the first craft. Monotron's mission is to explore and find new minerals and ways to use them.

The larger than necessary engines allow for the high speeds the ship can achieve.

The cones funnel air into the engines, letting the ship go faster for less fuel.

The model can, in fact, balance on the engines, but the landing gear made it look so much better.

Here is the cargo bay, where a robot and computer can be stored; however many Defenders carry other things.

This particular robot model folds up to fit in the ship.

The computer is specifically designed for the robot to use.

The first alternate: a Surveillance Platform with a detachable skiff.

The magno-locks hold the skiff in place

The locks lift up for release and help maneuver.

The second alternate: a speedy recon flyer and communication outpost.

The air scoops allow for the insane speed of the craft.

Weighing in at an even 100 pieces, this is the most fun I have ever had building LEGOs. I had wanted to create my own Space faction, and this contest was the right push to do that. Thanks to the Davids for making the contest happen again; I loved the first one, and this one is absolutely fantastic.

Great craft here. All the alternate models are equally amazing and undoubtedly CS. The opening rear with the robot inside is very creative as well.

A great one-man spaceship, which feels like one of those top end pocket money sets. The kit in the back is nice too. Red works for me as a theme. 7 Two more solid CS alternatives. Both look pretty swooshable and fun. 7 Good solid play value. Always fun top unload your kit after landing on the luna surface. 7 You understand what makes CS tick. This is an update on what CS does best, one-man exploration with your robot friend. 7

Another build that shows just how big a model you can get from under 100 pieces. The fact that you've included an enclosed cockpit and a separate cargo bay is impressive. The slopes on the side of the canopy do make quite a sharp edge. Perhaps you could have used a shorter piece instead of the top slope, such as 41762, to feather it a little? The way that you've stepped the angle of the wings looks good. I like how you've gone for an overall red scheme and kept the grey in distinct blocks. 7 I like how your alternatives are also flying machines but their forms and functions contrast with the main build. The Skiff looks very functional: the sort of thing that you'd trundle off in to mend something. The Recon Flyer looks like fast, noisy, fun. Each of the alternatives has a ground based part too, which gives the flying machine a purpose: docking on to the platform or zooming off to check the communication outpost. Lots of fun and play potential, which is what it's all about! 8 A big, swooshable spaceship is always fun. The enclosed cockpit, with lifting canopy is super. Then there's the boot (trunk for our American readers!). Again, this hinges open and inside there's a cute robot and a computer terminal. Lots of adventures to had, zooming around and deploying the robot to do all sorts of things. Nice work. 8 I love the photo of the spaceman lifting the heavy robot out of the spaceship. You never saw people having to do real, awkward jobs like this in Classic Space. perhaps they didn't have the manual handling training? Great fun! You also own the best backdrop of any of the competitors. Who needs PhotoShop? Right, the criteria... Wings, fins and little robots are very CS. Plus this feels as though it has been designed as much for play as for aesthetics. All of this gives it a high CS factor in my eyes. 8 Total 31
