Backstory:

Gringat was one of the original Matoran that were put on Luna Magna by the Great Beings after it's creation. The discovery of Moonlight energy crystals under the surface caused an all out Mining war for power and wealth. Matoran Gringat held no sides in this war, and refused to participate in it as the planet started to crumble around him. Soon, the Great Beings left Luna Magna, dissapointed in their creation. This just made the scramble for power even more desparate.

Not all of the Great Beings left Luna Magna however. The original instigator of the Mining Wars, the evil Great Being known as Kae-Oss was imprisoned by the other Great Beings at the core of Luna Magna. Although he was trapped down there, he was able to use the veins of Moonlight Energy Crystals running throughout the planet to gather and send information. Kae-Oss noticed a young Matoran of Air looking over a battlefield, watching as his fellow Matoran fought over the land.

Kae-Oss channeled his strength through the network of crystals, causing one to grow next to Gringat. Gringat had stumbled back onto the ground as the crystal emerged from the ground and loomed over him. Kae-Oss sent a massive stream of his energy through the crystal, which struck Gringat, and transformed him into a Toa. With one final act, Kae-Oss drained the crystal of all energy, causing it to shatter into small red fragments. Only one section of the crystal was spared, instead of being drained, it was equalized, becoming sort of a moonlight energy battery. This section of crystal was then carved by Kae-Oss into a Moondial. The Luna Dial.

With that, the now transformed Gringat stood up, retrieved the Luna Dial and a fragment of the crystal. The Matoran fighting on the battlefield had seen the spectacle, and were awestruck. Gringat then gave a speech to his fellow Matoran. A speech that inspired them to work together to mine the crystals rather than fight over the land. They agreed, but they required a leader. They rallied behind Gringat, spreading the news to the rest of the Matoran of Luna Magna, and wiping out the few who opposed them. Then, with the war over, Gringat founded the Kingdom of Luna Magnians, and the Matoran made him their King.

Gringat organized and maintained the kingdom while the Matoran did the labor. They chose one central location to build a Moonlight mine, and built a walled city near it. King Gringat found a Queen, who was killed by the Lunarian palace's collapse during the Dimensional Relocation of Luna Magna. (See Callan's Backstory.) When the Luna Dial was returned to the Luna Magnians by the Hand of Artakha, it was locked away in an underground room below the wreckage of the palace, in the Queen's honor. Gringat now rules alone, but his adopted daughter, Leimera, keeps him company. Now the Luna Magnians live peacefully, in a technologically advanced society.

The moonlight mine now reaches dangerously close to the core of Luna Magna, and Gringat starts to exhibit some strange behavior. Knoxus's return to Luna Magna also doesn't help the situation. What will happen to the planet of Luna Magna? Find out in Knight of Nights: Knoxus' Story, coming soon to MOCpages!

Without further ado, here's the MOC!

Close up on the back's details!

Gringat: I have so much POWER!

What I imagine the Moonshadow energy to look like.

Wielding his iconic Twin Short Swords!

Only a master swordsman can make this pose.

One of the coolest things about this MOC, real functioning sword sheaths!

You probably noticed his eyes. They're RED! How is this possible!?

It's a rare, misprint, trans-red, short brain! U jelly?

Alright, just kidding. I just colored over a normal green one with a sharpie. Got ya though, didn't I? Oh, I love being non-purist.

Three fifths of Team Broken Axles! It would be so awesome if they could review a Project Moonlight MOC for their next livestream! Hint hint :)

All of the released Project Moonlight MOCs so far. Uh oh, they're getting frisky!

Last picture, size comparison with Kopaka.

FOURTH WALL:

So here is my version of Gringat. As you can probably tell, my version of his character is evil, so I tried to go for that when making this MOC. Release delay is for the same reason as Cossy, I needed to get parts from Bricklink. Anyway, hope you like him Gringat! I tried to be as unique as possible with him! Thanks for looking!

Just a red sharpie! Unfortunately, it blocks out a lot of the transparency, so the eyes don't glow that much.

I cannot resist asking what you used to color that eye piece! So what was it? The moc is excellent, and is truly impressive.

Thanks Callan! Believe it or not, I added the Rahkshi foot to his chest to mimic your version. :) I had to get the red fins from Bricklink, Which set did they even come in? lol

Thanks! I can't remember which artist made the song, all I remember is that it's a rock remix of the song 'Lunatic Eyes~Invisible Full Moon' from the Touhou games.

Thank you Gringat! I'm glad you like him and the story! Yeah, those short brainstem pieces are way too useful to be available in only 1 color! :)

Excellent work! I've just read through all of your Project Moonlight entries, and I have to say I'm intrigued! The MOC itself is instantly recognisable and yet still very obviously built in your style. You had me going with the brain stem there too :P Ahh, if only there were rare misprint light blue ones around...

Woah! And that music, man! So very well done, on-par in quality to Gringat's actual Self-MOC. I love this, and the choice of music is perfect as well. Who's it by, btw?

Wow, this is a fantastic rendition of Gringat! I really like the back details and how you overloaded him with spikes without making it look bad. I also like how you used a Rahkshi foot for the chest, which was a detail I had on my own Gringat for most of his versions! Fantastic work, although the real thing I'm jealous about is those red fins, I still haven't gotten a pair for my own Gat. D:
