VV-13 Vindicator
About this creation
So, here it is. My Vic Viper for Devvember 2013. Yes, yes, I know what youíre thinking:

ďBut, Tim, Iíve never heard of Devvember.Ē

Thatís okay. Iíll fill you in. Devvember is an age-old tradition when procrastinators all over the world completely lose track of time and post their Vic Vipers up to 20 days tardy. Itís kind of like SHIPtober or MaKvember. Or, like this coming Decembuary, when I give my wife her Christmas gifts. Ah, what a glorious time of year.

In all seriousness, my intentions are always going to be to post a Vic Viper in, (or around), November in tribute to nnenn. Although it wasnít nnennís works that introduced me to the Vic Viper nor did I enter the community in time to ever have the pleasure of seeing one of his works freshly posted, I can definitely say, (and I know Iím not alone here), that I consider his works, be they VVís or not, an inspiration. Even to this day, though I have seen it many times, I still visit his photostream, hoping to pull a little hint here or there to help me come up with a starfighter design. This is why, late or not, I wasnít going to let 2013 pass without throwing down a little VV action.

Hereís to you nnenn.

Ok, so part of the reason that Iím so late on posting this was my first go at it. Shortly after starting, I made the realization that if I continued down the path I was on, I was going to end up with a VV that looked very much like my 2012 version. So I tore it down and decided that I would build A VIC VIPER THE LIKES OF WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN!

Pause for dramatic effect.

But then I realized that people have been building Vic Vipers since before I was ever a member of this community. Building a Vic Viper that is 100% unique must be nigh impossible at this point. So I decided that I would build A VIC VIPER THE LIKES OF WHICH I HAVE NEVER SEEN!

Pause again.

But then I realized that I have been doing this LEGO thang now for almost two years. I have seen many VVís at this point and, as I mentioned earlier, Iíve been through nnennís stream. It would take quite a bit to surprise me at this point. Finally, I settled on building A VIC VIPER THE LIKES OF WHICH HAS PROBABLY BEEN SEEN BY OTHERS AS WELL AS MYSELF BUT MIGHT BE COOL ANYWAY!

This is what I came up with. I give you the VV-13 Vindicator. Letís have a look.

I tried something different with my photos this time through. Though I edited all of them, I stayed clear of the space shots. Wanted to see how this ship looked if I let it speak for itself. Do you miss the space shots?

These next shots are some of the details that I liked best of this ship.

Thanks for having a look. Let me know what you think.

that front shot was scary! cool ship especially due to those BLACK greebles which actually stand out very well. not like "always grey greebles" so it masks some of the sinister ominous feeling about this ship..

Love the cockpit and the wing design. It's great to see a cool deviation from "standard" fighter design. Definitely has lots of personality. Only thing I'm a bit undecided on is the rear. But great work!

Don't worry about being late, I've just seen this now! Incredible design, the cockpit and body shape is very fluent, and the front shooty-thingies are well done too. I just think you didn't quite take advantage of all that cockpit space, one or two more minifigs would have fit in easily! Still, an amazing piece of work.

It's fascinating to see how you've fused the various shapes together in this design. I think that the inside of the cockpit is particularly excellent.

A truly unique VicViper, I like it a lot. Reminds me quite a bit of one of those Star Wars droid tanks in episode III. An amazing amount of details, I seldom see anyone use details that small on starfighters. Epic job on a great MOC!

Quoting Tim C I appreciate that Pico. And I must say, you have come onto the pages with a bang. Your ships look just fantastic. Have you thought about posting on Flickr as well?
Thanks man :) I hesitated for a while but since you asked, I made one. I have yet to post some pics though. I'll be having a new lightbox this week. As soon as that's set up I'll take new shots and create the sets over there, see what's what. My Flickr account is Brixnspace. Keep up your great work!

Quoting Senator Chinchilla . This is some seriously good kit, the likes of which I probably have seen but forgot a long time ago since I've been at this so dang long. I like all the circly bits and that lime/white accent pattern its got going on.
Thanks, Senator. Glad you like the circly bits;) The artist in me tries to add features in a way that can move the eye through the entire composition. It ends up putting me at a single project for a long time, though. Hence Devvember.

Quoting JS Can Man, that is a nice looking ship. I love the whole cockpit area and the overall design is fantastic. I bet it even looks better in person.
I am never 100% happy with how my ships look after I've photographed them, so I always think they look better in person. Thanks a lot, JS. Glad you like it.

Quoting Michael Rutherford Man! So much going on with this thing! You bring a whole lot of "new" to a tried and true design. The overall shaping of the tail section, with its three engines? That highly detailed pilot station with the huge canopy? All that excellent color and detail? But I really love the simplicity and implied brutality of those eight guns on the front. No nonsense, no ornamentation, no pretentious do-dads... just eight short black tubes that spit hot death. The guns blunt utility is a nice contrast to the rest of the ship. Attack!
Wow! What a great comment. Thanks, Michael. Glad you liked it as much as you did. I'm also glad you were able to pick out some unique aspects. I can joke, but starting over was only to come up with something different. I'm glad you like the guns. I have a tendency to try to go too detailed on my guns, so it was tough to go with the minimalist design.

I appreciate that, Philippe. I don't think I have it in me to build a small ship. I've tried, but everything comes out so bulky.

Quoting Rockcrawler 247 Nice Lines and a great job of separation of colors in the engine area. Over all just WICKED! On a side note great name too.
Thanks, Rockcrawler. Glad you like it. I haven't worked much with black greebs, so I'm glad it worked out as well as it did.

Quoting David Alexander Smith If it had been in the VV owners group I'd have given it a high placing. The circular body and cockpit work well. I tend to favour a plain background of late. However, not sure the dark grey is quite the right colour. Still not a big issue. How's the pocket money set progressing?
Thanks, David. Always look forward to seeing what you have to say. I know that I haven't commented on many of your works of late. Something I plan on remedying soon. I tried the background as an experiment. I didn't want to draw from the ship with any glaring colors. The ship would get lost in a light gray, the highlights would get lost in the white, so I went with dark gray. As for the Pocket Money contest, I am going to put my greatest effort into entering something, but it took me a week and a half just to photograph this ship, and I still haven't taken it apart. We'll see.

Quoting Pico van Grootveld Brutal design and detailing Tim! Part selection and variety is great, the ship is worked out just fine and in balance. I think the rear pic really shows that aspect. Good show, once again :)

Quoting clayton Marchetti I love the fact that you put as much work on detailing the bottom of your ships as you do the top . This is really a fantastic Vic viper . I love the cockpit detailing . Excellent !
I'm a hopeless perfectionist, Clayton. Leaving the bottom alone means that I have an unfinished work. I can't live in such a world. My challenge is going to be including landing gears on all my ships. I tremble at the thought;)

Quoting Zach Sweigart You take advantage of the great selection of parts availiable. Great color scheme. Looks industrial, yet still sleek and futuristic. Great work!
Thanks, Zach. Ships are fun, but I don't think I'm capable of the sleekness of your designs. Any mechs coming up for you. Haven't seen one of those in a while.

Quoting Garett Smith Nice job Tim! It's never to late for a Vic Viper. And what photo editing program did you use to clean up the background?
Thanks, Garett. I'm usually a "just in time" kind of guy, so missing the deadline was a disappointment, but I'm glad you like it. I am a GIMP user. I would rather spend my money on parts than Photoshop.

Quoting Mike Johnson I fully respect shots of a quality MOC without the background enhancements (especially since I totally lack the ability to do them myself, but that's another story). Your attention to detail is what I always admire most about your builds. Keep it up my friend, keep it up!
Thanks, Mike. The space backgrounds was something that I had a lot of trouble resisting. I must say, though, I would love to see a couple of your sleek fighters in a space scene.

Tim, this is a Viper of the like none I've ever seen! ;) Brilliant build, the minimalist colour scheme really makes the highlights pop, and your detailing never ceases to amaze me. Hat's off for one of the coolest ships I've had the pleasure of seeing this year.

Quoting Mark Kelso Terrific VV! Don't recall having seen one like this before. Definitely cool, anyway. Some nice procrastination, I might add. Not quite on par with my own procrastination, if you don't mind my saying so (over three years now on a SHIP), but a noble attempt nonetheless. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, Mark. Always glad to see when you approve of one of my builds. Yes, you have me on the procrastination. But, you mentioned once that it will be at BW in 2014. I will be attending, so seeing it in person will be worth the wait. And, yes, a happy Thanksviving to you as well. I'm looking forward to that turkey dinner;)

Quoting Mark McPeek Fantastic VV! The detailing and shaping are well done, as always. I think that the space shots actually made it look better, but both ways are good. Great work and happy Devvember! ;)
Thanks, Mark. It was not easy just slapping that grey background on all my shots, considering my tendency to add stars and planets.

Quoting matt rowntRee Eh, I've seen it before. XD Just kidding! Fantastic Tim. I love how beefy it looks yet it seems so unbelievably agile. The colors are absolutely perfect. This is the VV I want to pilot in a fight, I know I'd come back from the battle to enjoy a beer or eight. The forward guns are intimidating and simple. Almost reminds me of an A-10 Thunderbolt. This is the space faring version of a tank killer. Brilliant! Regardless of the month. ;)
Thanks, Matt. Normally, I'm good with deadlines, but the Christmas season has a way of robbing me of that virtue. This ship has been built for about a week and a half. I couldn't even find time to edit photos. I did try to do something a little different for this VV. They are generally sleek, fast looking fighters. I wanted this one to have that beefy, intimidating look, so I'm glad that's what you got out of it.
