Built for the second Classic Space Pocket Money Contest.
About this creation

Thankyou David and David for hosting this excellent shindig once again!

My submission is based on the idea of prospecting for the rare mineral unobtainium, which the good people of Yellowtron need for making their radiation resistant windscreens. They haven't invented translucent blue plastic, y'see...

The picker ship flies over the inaccessible crags where the precious stuff is found and deposits it in the dumper rover, using it's cunning rotating engines to hover as it does so...

The pieces for the ship's stand are included in the set, along with two pieces of priceless unobtainium.

99 pieces - figs count as a single piece, the hinges count as two pieces each.

Alternates :

1 : A truck rover that can pick up it's own pieces and a... a... er.... space hopper! (shouldn't it be orange and bouncy ?)

2 : A robot and control centre.

Anybody who can conjure a witty acronym for the robot from the word FLATCAP has surely earned a couple of extra points on his or her entry...

3 : A radar rover and speedster. Those prongs on the front are NOT guns, I promise!

When someone sneezes three galaxies away, be sure that this guy knows about it...

This time the ship's stand is made with extra pieces.

Yellowtron. They're like Blacktron, but friendlier.

Brilliant take on CS, and spectacular use of the limited parts to create all those alternatives. Love it!

Nice! Really does look a lot like those small sets from back then. Nice use of parts in all three builds, that FLATCAP robot looks fun. I like that end slogan too by the way :-D

I love the idea of your build, especially the way the two individually cool vehicles work together as a pair. I would have been drooling all over this one. The yellow construction worker colours just increase my joy. 10 The alternatives brush close to that quirky edge, but stay just the right side. For me that big floating bot ticks all of the boxes. 8 The design and play function follow so perfectly. Having watched my three year old son play for hours with a toy digger and dump truck, I could only imagine how a moc like this would blow his mind. Top play value. 10 A real CS build. A new design, a new concept, new colours, but still quintessentially CS. Perfect! 10

Two decent sized vehicles, with two minifigs in less than 100 bricks? Interesting! I like the simple yellow, grey and trans-blue colour scheme. the dumper truck is a very practical machine, which looks to have been stolen from a building site on Earth and had rocket stuck on its rear to make it looks spacey. Can't fault that: it works! The VTOL Picker is quite special though, with its swivelling rockets and flexible grab arm. I like how a display stand for the flying machine and a couple of crystals are included in the 99 parts. 9 The robot and control centre are a great alternative build. Fun to play with and totally different to the main build. Nice to see those old 2x4 Technic bricks in there too. The radar rover looks great, especially with its giant dish. I do worry that the minifig bracket at bottom has to take a lot of load though and act as the turntable. I wonder if you could have added some of the parts from the speedster to make a bigger, better radar rover. I like Alternative 1 but it is quite similar to the main build. 7 A pair of tough, strongly built vehicles. Both look capable of surviving the odd bump and scrape of everyday mining activity and children's play. The Picker is swooshable and those rotating VTOL jet look great fun to twirl. It also has an arm and an opening canopy. The dumper truck drives and tips, hinging realistically in the middle. I suppose that this will prevent it from zooming across a hard floor but it does mean that it will circle nicely and stay on top of a table! Two vehicles doubles the fun and play and story telling potential too. 9 The clean, greeble-free surfaces of these builds are very CS. I think that only professional model makers knew what a greeble was. back in the 1970s. I would have loved this set as a kid. Like LL918, it looks to be bigger than some other sets with double its parts count. I think that the studs on top construction also helps with the CS feel. 9 Total 34

Did I not comment on this yet? Fantastic entry, 4 models for the price of 3 and all of them are great. That robot has sooo much character, looks like one of the Mr. Men went rogue and escaped into the future. Brilliant!

How come I did not think about that yellow color!?!! It really makes it with the LBGray (?). The set with the robot is hilarious. Totally in the CS spirit.

Wow, this contest will be just as tough as the last one and this one is one of my favourites. I really like the styling and the playability. The colour scheme is very cool and the parts selection, too. What else could we expect from you, Nick? ;-)) Great job! Good luck in the contest, you won't need it! :-))

Great thing is most of us will have all the pieces... I even have two of the multi-holed 2x4 bricks (from the Harley Davidson, what other toys of yours that are over 30 years old are your kids still playing with?)

Quoting Alex Sonny Awesome little piece of nostalgia. All the functionality really spices up the build, as do some of the older parts you used (can you even get all those CS parts new?)
I don't think you can. Those multi-holed 2x4s predate even classic space! Thanks Alex.

Quoting Andy L Ahhhh you nicked my water cannons! This is brilliant, Nick. Very classic space with the grab arm. Love the alternatives, especially the robot (reminds me of a giant owl). Top work as always, must be a nice relaxing build after the pressure of the MOC Olympics.
Thanks Andy. I swore just a little bit when I saw yours as mine was nearly done, but carried on anyway as they were too good to pass up :-) You're right that this is a change of pace, but no less difficult!

ACK!!! Unobtainium? You're killing me Nick. XD Love the entry though, pure CS with a great color to boot. See if I can work on an acronym for that awesome robot as well. But only if you change it from Unobtainium to something else. XD Splendid!

I think that you somehow hacked into my mind and saw what I was creating for the contest since there are a lot of similarities. I like the grabbing arm and dump-truck rover, both of which are part of my entry (so of course I like them!). Great work, and I like how it has two minifigs!
