LOM TT Round 1: The Catacombs
I didn't have a lot of time for this. Sorry for the pics and lack of story...
About this creation
This is my entry for round one of The Tourney 2014, my bracket being Wrestling, which had the following challenge:
-Funhouse
Every year, the Tourney administrations set up a sort of an obstacle course on the Tourney grounds filled with dangerous traps. Its challenge is increased by a ban on all weapons inside the labyrinth. This year the course is set inside the catacombs beneath the city of Carthal, and it is your task to show your wrestler braving the mechanisms within to prove his or her strength before going against a live opponent later in the Tourney.

***

Qinon is at the entry-point to the catacombs that was determined for him. The traps will be controlled by a mage. He will have to brave traps testing him for strength and speed. at the end, he will be brought back to the surface with a portal.

The entry-point to the catacombs is protected by a small shed.

Note: This picture proves that, yes, it is one scene.

Qinon will go around the first corner and see nothing suspicious.

Note: The wall may seem rather plain, but there is a lot of jumper-plate magic going on to incorporate the fancy indents. The skulls are less complicated...

Just saying, catacombs are where dead people are buried... Every catacomb should have some skulls. :P

But there is, of course, a trap. One that has obviously taken lives before...

Note: If I had had enough time to make this a story, I would have changed it so that it looks like Qinon was breaking through... as it was, I didn't have the time, which is why it looks weird in this shot.

Around the next bend, too, Qinon will find nothing suspicious... except for that piece of stone sticking out of the flat wall

Note: I didn't include that many traps, even though I had the space, because I wanted them all hidden... and I didn't have the time to put them into the ceiling.. yes, there is a ceiling, as you saw earlier.

Wow! Yup, sure enough, there is something about that thing sticking out. Something that will nearly crack some of Qinon's bones...

There is something suspicious about this one, but Qinon will be preoccupied with the sudden change of altitude, revealing old, broken wall, more ancient than anything that the people of Carthal could have made...

Note: I really like this part... but not as much as the next...

Wow! A huge bone, controlled by the mage, will pop out of the wall. Qinon will have to use all his strength to break it, for the mage will batter him with it hard and relentlessly...

Note: To keep the bone mostly concealed, I had to use a typical curved-wall strategy in a slightly different way. I also had to but a stopper in there to keep the bone from just sliding into the inside of the whole thing.

And farther down, a flame will erupt from the wall to take half of Qinon's cape, and almost burn his upper legs off!

Note: I was, right here, just trying to get another trap in... :P not very concealed, but it would have worked for a story.

Around the last bend, Qinon will find a dead end, at the end of which is the portal! but between it is a meter-high drop, into a pool of greenish water with spikes...

Note: here visible is my first attempt at using technic to frame the whole build. It really only hindered me in the end, so I won't be doing it again, unless I lack the pieces to do it normally...

This part of the build was the first and the most fun. It also used up almost all of my bricks with studs on one or more sides, and most of my headlight bricks, and a lot os jumper plates and 1x2 gray tiles...

Qinon will have no choice but to jump over the spiky pool...

What the Brick! A piece of wall shoots straight out and slams him backwards! Wow!
He will have to brave it with a rather complicated act of agile acrobatics...

Note: Quick pause from the not-so-story-than-more-of-a-pathetic-description-thing I have going on...

This part of the build was my favorite. Loads of Snot and olive cheese, along with beautifully incorporated skulls. I definitely want to try a wall like that again. It is the highlight of the build, for sure. I loved it.

Note: This side has the swinging wall part--- that was hard. Whenever I move that "hammer" out of the rest of the wall, several smaller pieces come off... as a result there are a lot of pieces spilled inside the depths of the technic supports.

A thing that you can't really see in the pictures is that I added another one of those fancy indents into the orderly upper part of the wall, but had it overtaken by rocks, so that only half the indent shows... it looks pretty cool.

When Qinon thinks he has finally made it, he will be surprised: two more spears shoot out of the crumbly walls. He would have spotted them, but he was careless... good thing his reflexes can save him.

Note: The whole bottom half of the build, with exposed technic supports... a pretty ugly view, but that's what the top level if for: to cover up exactly that view.

Note: Covering up all that wouldn't be possible without something to cap off that wild crumbly wall part. This is the top view with that "cap" on. It does have rockwork, so it looks good when it is put on. Very good, even...

Note: The upper level of this moc separates into four parts. This is the first part. It is pretty boring, but I made the whole top in an hour and a half, using all my green plates, and I'm not a good speed builder...

The Mage... she controls the maze...

Note: Looks frosty, doesn't she?

Note: The second fourth of the top level, with road and small cliffs, and foliage. It turned out pretty nicely, but I could have done a lot better, with the time and pieces (this build took up A LOT of pieces, in my standards).

Note: The third half. More road, more foliage, and a tree which is way to fat for it's height... I actually like this type of tree, and will try it again sometime.

Note: The fourth part of the top. I ran out of green plates at this point, so I improvised a field and a pigsty... The rock was meant for anther obstacle in the maze, if I made a story. The mage would have sent it down for Qinon to heave aside...

Note: All four fourths together. It fits! Yay!

Note: And the whole thing. Whew.

Well, I hope to see you in round two, even though I think that my chance is only about 45 percent... I hope you liked it! ;)

My favorite part is definitely the greebly wall right near the end - very creepy looking! The lime green didn't work so well for the top, maybe brown would have worked better. Overall solid entry.

Very nice job, good traps. I like the whole MOC, too bad you couldn't do a story.
