Melo R2: Grant Davis vs A Sargent
Middle Earth Lego Olympics round 2 brings me to reveal my rendition of Mirkwood Forest
About this creation
Built for the 2013-2014 Middle Earth Lego Olympics

My very worthy opponent and builder A Sargent

We got the category ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ quotes I got a quote by Bilbo

“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door, you step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

It turns out that wasn’t the whole quote, Bilbo goes on to say

“Do you realize that this is the very path that goes through Mirkwood, and that if you let it, it might take you to the Lonely Mountain or even further and to worse places?”

Now considering the fact that we cannot truly understand a phrase when taken out of context, my build revolves around the whole quote. It has the Road that leads to the Lonely Mountain, through Mirkwood, and all the way to the front step of a Hobbit hole in the shire.

The Build itself was done in 3 days time, I pulled 2 nights up until 2 AM working on this. The tree obviously is the centerpiece, even so that was the one thing I spent the shortest amount of time on. Getting the rocks to go into the angle I wanted was really tricky, and getting the foliage to not look exotic and more dark was really time consuming. Anywho I hope you like it! Good Luck to my opponent!

God Bless!

Quoting David . Mocpages, why do you delete my comments? :) Well done grant, a well deserved win. Would you mind revealing to me the secret of your bent tree limbs? They're so simple, yet so complex... Well done on everything. :) I saw this scene...And it was awesome!! "There's dwarves, in these woods..."
The ones that jet out of the tree not at the top just have the 1x1's with studs on all 4 sides with string going through it attached to the leaves. The ones on the top are a little more complicated but the joint is just a brown pair of legs. Hope that helps!

Well done Grant. This build is huge, and excellently done, however, I preferred your opponents because of his rendition of the topic.

While I think your opponent's entry seems a little more relevant to the category, your stellar build earns you my vote! Well done!

Hi Grant, awesome job! I was blown away with some of your landscaping and the organic feel of the rocks and logs. I think your tree looks a little uniform in comparison to the beauty of everything else. But you still get my vote!

nice scene, the landscape is superb, although the tree technique is good, I feel a little more polish would have made a terrific difference, I will have to do big trees in a future scene, and keep it in mind, as I feel that it s definitively the way to go to make sequoia type forests, I like mostly how you really fill the scene with greenery, making it look alive.
