About this creation

It was cold outside.

Filberth and Halbert usually would rarely leave their houses during the winter. It was just too cold in the northern cities. But this time, his comfort would be postponed. Filberth had to find Darden.

He entered the tavern. The tavern was one of their favorites; a place that Darden must have been to. Maybe he’d find clues inside.

Security was tighter than normal. Two armed soldiers stood in the corners of the rooms; they must have been expecting mischief.

As Filberth walked in, he heard an argument. Two Rainosians were fighting over a woman.

It was the weather, Filberth figured. The men at the tavern weren’t usually this rowdy; the bad weather was stirring up anger.

As he looked back at the men, one of the two picked up his glass, preparing to throw it at the other.

Filberth ran over and stopped the man.

“Leave,” he said. “Leave! Don’t come back until you can settle your argument, peacefully.”

The Rainosians reluctantly left the tavern.

Standing near them was a face Filberth recognized. It was Reghof, one of Filberth’s good friends.

“Greetings, Reghof,” Filberth said. “Have you seen Darden? He’s gone missing and I must find him lest the weather worsen.”

“Ah, yes, Darden. I have seen him. Yesterday, actually. He was going northwest of here.”

Filberth nodded and turned to leave. But Reghof was not finished.

“You’d better find him soon,” Reghof continued. “There’ve been a lot of troll sightings in that area recently.”

Filberth hurried away.

Snow/rockwork. I really like how they turned out, probably my favorite parts of the creation.

Rockwork again. Like I said, I absolutely love it; probably the best/most realistic rockwork I've built.

Side view

Back.

Other side

And now for an example of problems and solutions:

Problem: Tall black base requires more black bricks than I have.

Solution: Cutaways! 5 of them, in fact:

#1: The Mythron shield

#2: Destrian holding the Average Gnomes flag.

#3: Riddles in the dark...

#4: A micro micro manager. Maybe my favorite of the cutouts, I liked how the mini Micro Manager turned out!

#5 (sorry for the bad picture): Underwater skeleton. Another of my favorites, though it doesn't work well for photography, the trans-light blue effect is pretty neat in real life.

Thanks for viewing!

10 50 likes! Woo! It was all me! Also, I really like the double layered rockwork.

I'd give it another like so you could have 10 50s, I really would...but that building...you'll just have to post another great moc, which shouldn't be too hard. :P

Hey, wait, there's no snow on the roof. :P

Quoting Stephen Boe You haven't seen Mark Kelso's and Mark Erickson's have you?
Eh. Sure, Erickson's good - very good - but Halhi's stuff is more intricate and accurate.

That rockwork has really grown on me; it looks much better now than when you first posted the moc, somehow. :P And that snow is beautiful.

Quoting Armon Russ Sorry for the late comment, but I really don't think this is one of your best builds. The grey and dark grey rocks seem too obviously seperated, and the tavern is a little too blocky IMO. And I'm just wincing at the studs you left uncovered on the tables in the tavern. . . . >.> All in all, it's good, but not excellent.
Meh. I liked the rocks, and what tavern have you seen that isn't box-shaped? And I don't see how running out of tiles is a critique...

Not really, once you get used to the 2 : 5 ratio. Panel rockwork is much harder. Thanks!

Quoting clayton Marchetti Wow awesome job! I love the two tone rock work . It really looks like the dark grey rock is wet . Very cool. Love the base too! Lots to look at. The Tavern looks fantastic also. Brilliant work
Thanks Clayton, the wet look was what I was trying to go for with the rockwork; I'm glad I succeeded. I wish there was a shade of grey in between light bley and dark bley though, I think that if the colors weren't quite so different it would probably work better.

Quoting Caleb R. Great build, and if you had focused more on the actual fight and not used basically the exact example in the description of the challenge, it would have been even better!
For once the story was kinda an afterthought; anyway, I personally think prolonged fight scenes tend to be a bit bóring/tedious. Thanks though!

Quoting Kai Bernstein Great job! The snow/rockwork, as always, is particularly good! Nice cutaways as well! The tavern's design looks a little basic, though, and the brown beams seem somehow off. On the rockwork, though the designs are really nice, the contrast of dark bley right against light is a bit sharp; they don't mix enough. I really like the Tavern's textured foundation, and noticed the pins in the those 1x1s are visible on the other side; a way to fix that would be to have a brick with a stud on one side facing the other way, and a 1x2 covering up the back of the pin. Again, though, great overall build. :P I really like the snow.
Thanks Kai! Yeah, I agree about the beams... I actually do like the rockwork colors though. Interesting idea, but I lack any bricks with stud on one side (except in black and dark grey) and I ran out of tan bricks with studs on two sides. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks Stephen! I know, I used to not really like the water technique, but now that I actually have the pieces to use it (thanks to PaB!) I like it a lot more.
