About this creation
My esteemed opponent, Matt W.
The 2014 Tourney
Bracket: Wrestling- The Strength Event
Crimson Knights FTW!

What Happened First?
What Happened Last?
What Happens Next?

After safely passing through the catacombs under Carthal, I’d been told to go to an arena in the palm forests south of the city for a challenge of strength.

IMG_8633

By the time I arrived with my guildsmen, a large crowd had gathered on the stands to watch. As they murmured excitedly, the Tourney official stepped forward to begin the contest.

IMG_8631

“The hurling of the Caber is a traditional test of strength among the men of North Mythron. Today, each competitor will take turns in lifting these logs, stacked at the end of the court here. He who can lift the largest log, shall be declared the victor.”

IMG_8637

“Cabers, hmm?” I muttered as I stepped onto the worn pavement. I looked over at my opponent.

IMG_8635

The forces of Gnomery had hired a local strongman for this challenge, and the crowd whooped as he flexed his muscles and smirked.

IMG_8640

“Good luck,” I offered politely as we walked towards the stack of logs we would be tossing, but my competitor merely leered. “I guess it’s up to me, then,” I muttered.

IMG_8645

Cupping the end in a small harness to protect my hands, I picked up the smallest log from the top of the pile, getting a feel for the weight. The crowd clapped lightly, then waited for my opponent’s response.

IMG_8646

He smiled condescendingly, then heaved the largest of the logs high into the air. The crowd cheered, and the official rapped his staff against the stones. “The Average Gnome has lifted the largest log! Do you yield, Thomas the trader?”

IMG_8651

I clenched my teeth. “Never.”

IMG_8679

Nervous of defeat, yet hopeful of victory, I strode up the steep path and into the thick undergrowth, stopping at the base of a palm tree which grew at the top of the hill.

IMG_8685

Firmly grasping the trunk, I heaved mightily, wrenching the roots of the tree right out of the ground. Soil showered around me, as I heaved the tree up.

IMG_8667

As the crowd cheered wildly, the other competitor stalked off the court in a huff.

IMG_8673

“Thomas the trader has won!”

What Happens Next?

Credits:
Although I doubt they uses the exact same connections as I do, the angled rockwork is inspired by Halhi and Legonardo Davidy, and the palm tree uses Mark of Falworth's bush technique and vines form Derfel Cadarn. Also, the stone arena floor uses a technique which I believe originally came from Derfel as well.

IMG_8675

“Come on, Matt! You’ve almost got the log off the ground!”

IMG_8678

Maybe one of these days Alex can learn how to raise his guild flag properly :P

Because trucks are much cooler than a wimpy wagon!

Thanks for viewing!

Thank you for the vote, as well as for the excellent feedback. I'll be sure to take them into account in the next rounds :)

Quoting Gilbert Despathens Whether Grant Davis agrees or not, I'd like to say that I judged your pair-off by mistake and I would have given my vote to you had I not made the connection that you aren't in one of my brackets. I think you had a much more detailed landscape than Matt. Although his was close, you had better rocks and the SNOT patch and foliage saved you from a heavily-studded landscape like his. The abundance of color helped, too, although I tried to keep an open mind on the different interpretations of the climate. Good luck with your last judge, and I hope to have the chance of rating one of your entries somewhere down the line.
I still got the email even after you deleted your comment :P Thanks for the feedback, and I'm quite glad you liked it.

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga Oh, and Matt lifted a dumbbell. I ripped a tree out of the ground!
A dumbbell? The correct term is a barbell. A dumbbell is a single curling bar meant for one hand.
Sorry, I don't work out as much as you do :P

Quoting George Marshall Looks great! I love the rocks, and the floor looks nice too, although it could have used more cheese slopes here and there. Nice job overall though! By the way, the tree you picked up was really skinny, so I'm sure it weighed much less than the log our guy hauled up. ;)
Thank you! I ran completely out of cheese slopes, as well as of cheese graters. Oh, and Matt lifted a dumbbell. I ripped a tree out of the ground!
