TT Round 2: Andrew the Jedi Ninja vs. Night Reaper
This is my entry to Round 2 of The Tourney 2014.

Guild: The Crimson Knights

Bracket: Melee

Category: Take the fight to the checkerboard and represent your guild as a chess team! You can make a full board of any size or as little as one square with a chess piece on it. There are no limits on piece sizes, but the pieces must be a separate component from the board and both must be recognizable for what they are.

When I first saw the category, I wanted to to a chess set like this one, but I found out I don't have nearly enough pieces. So then I thought about doing a life size chess set for the LEGOŽ Minifigs. So that is what I decided to do.

And now for a short intro story:

It was a tense atmosphere, only whispers were heard, for two opponent's were deep in concentration. Whoever won would move on to the next round. Whoever lost would pack their bags and go back to where they came from. To make the the two more nervous than they already are, the king looked on, watching their every move... Two guild leaders also looked on, watching in tense excitement. The opponent's watched each other's every move. Anticipating the next strike and figuring out their next move. What were they doing? They were playing chess......

Chess set Photos

I went with the smaller scale chess set. I think it turned out great! It's quite easy to distinguish what the pieces are. So I'm very happy about that! Also, the chess board came out great too. I really like the swords on the sides...

Photos of the Build

I put this build inside of a castle in Carthal to give it a more official chess tournament kind of feel. The wall turned out amazing and the stained glass idea is from this creation by Mark of Falworth. Thanks Mark!!

And, lastly, some nice large photos of the build:

Thanks for looking! God Bless!

Quoting Gilbert Despathens The border was still phenomenal, but you could have elevated the build a little to even the heights.
True, thanks for the tip.

Quoting Gilbert Despathens My only complaint is that you didn't perfectly align the awesome border with the awesome scene. The details were great, and I love those stairs leading up to the board. Needless to say, you get my vote this round.
Yeah, the border was a new technique that I wanted to try out. Anyway, thanks for the vote!

Quoting Matt Bace Great build! The chess board and pieces look fantastic all by themselves, but putting them inside a castle, with all of its great details (especially the windows) was a stroke of genius.

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga That's an awesome idea! The diorama honestly looks like the work of Mark of Falworth, the chess board is instantly identifiable, and the whole concept of a giant chess board is great. One question- what does the purple cape come in?
The purple cape comes in the Lake Town Chase set. The master of Lake Town wears it. It is a double sided cape, one side being red, the other purple.
