MELO R3: Andrew the Jedi NInja vs. J-rod Smith
Bracket: Orthanc
About this creation
This is my entry for Round 3 of 2013-14 Middle Earth Lego Olympics.

My opponent: J-rod Smith and his entry.

Category: Two Towers Quotes. "The tree is talking!"

When I saw this category, I was a little nervous at first, considering that I couldn't make a good forest with the amount of foliage pieces I have. Then, however, I thought about how the book had Pippin and Merry meet Treebeard... (If you want you can go read it to get a better understanding of this creation.) This is my interpretation of that "scene" in the book.

Treebeard

Notes: The stairway was my favorite part of the build. I came out just the way I imagined it. The textured ground was also a favorite. Of course Treebeard also came out quite well too.

Now for some final large photos!

Thanks for looking! God bless!

Absolutely fantastic work here! The round base is very well done, and looks great. The textures and color scheme in the landscape are excellent. The rockwork is top-notch as well. Your Treebeard design is also very nice. The build as a whole is very coherent and focused, which makes it really catch the eye. Great work!

Awesome! I really like the rockwork and Treebeard. I liked this scene in both the book and the movie and the only thing you didn't include was the Ent Draught. Still, a wonderful build!

Quoting Paul Vermeesch For me, this round honestly came down to composition. While J-rod's build may have superior construction techniques and style, your build leads the eye in an easier manner and creates a clear focal point. You've got my vote!
Thanks for voting even though you didn't have to. (Since my opponent won already). :)

This was a hard match to judge: neither build really stood out, so I resorted to a sort of scale. On one hand your scenery was much more interesting than your opponent's, between your steps and rock work. Unfortunately, however, your opponent's Ent (and other trees) earned him my vote.

Wow, this is the hardest round to judge so far. Very close! Your entries are both really excellent. I like your landscape a bit more than J-rod's, but his ent-design is just amazing, so he gets my vote. Good luck with the other judges!

Thanks for the comments! BTW, the base technique is from Justin M. I was in such a rush that I forgot about that. So thanks Justin M. for the technique!

While I think I prefer your Treebeard design from a while back (at least the face, anyway), this is a really fantastic build. That base shaping is really interesting and the colors and textures are top notch. Best of luck!
