This is my version of the Spartan King Leonidas and his 300 soldiers (at 1/10th scale), this is also my first attempt at creating a custom torso graphic and applying decals.
The graphic was created in Corel Draw 12 and is based heavily upon the Lego Batman Killer Croc torso. This is version five of the torso with the other four being unacceptable for a number of reasons. I am in the process of discussing having the torsos silk-screened by some art students at the local college; and if this works, then I will remove the decals (I haven’t Future Waxed them yet) and have them painted.
The armour is obviously from Brickforge . I ordered one of each bronze and black to see which I liked better. I really wanted to use the bronze; however, when I looked at the two I just had to go with the black. The bronze is an excellent colour, but not for me.
I also have an appropriate number of their falcatas in black, but am still working on how to make a sheath for these fine weapons. The problem is the shape of the blade and the handle, which have been playing havoc with my efforts so far. As you can see Leonidas has his falcate across the back of his hips – this was an accident, but has led me down a new path with respect to sheath design.
Leonidas is also the only minifig Spartan in my collection to wear vambraces. They limit the movement of the arms, and I am not sold on their look in this application. In addition, the extra dollar per minifig would drive the cost of these little guys above $7us each. But I may still go for them as they do breakup the all yellow arms – time will tell.
The capes are from C.A.B. Customs . They are of top quality, and are indistinguishable from the Lego originals. Could almost make one wonder if all the capes out there are legit; alternately, maybe this guy is a supplier for Lego. Not that I care, his capes are brilliant.
So, the story (300 is a film adaptation of the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller):
King Leonidas gathered 300 of his best warriors, those that had already sired male sons, to fight the Persian King Xerxes and his army of over a million. Leonidas leads his troops to the narrow cliffs of Thermopylae (the Hot Gates) to protect Sparta from the Persian hordes.
They managed to sting the Persian army and even managed to make Xerxes himself bleed, but they died to the man (except for Dilios who was sent back to Sparta to tell their story). Dilios leads the Spartans back to war with the Persians in the Battle of Plataea – a year later.
I am planning to work on the cliffs of Thermopylae at some point, but I have to get some studying done, and my daughter wants to build a new castle for her armies. One of the burdens of parenthood that I gladly embrace every day of my life.
Obviously, not all the parts are from Bricklink , but you should still go check the place out – it is a treasure of pieces and parts that one just can’t live without. Take a look you won’t be disappointed.
MOTD again! Shame I missed out on the Spartan collectable when it came out. Oh well. Actually this entire setup reminds me of the premise of the parody Meet the Spartans with stylish armor, painted on abs, and 30 men multiplied with green screen :P
Thermopylae is one of the classic examples of military duty and valor. I believe you have done it justice with this Moc. Sparta was the most warlike of the Greek city-states but they were also one of the most honorable. 5 out of 5 from me.
This is trully awesome but if you cared to ind the details so much (which is very admirable) you could've noticed that only Leonidas had that brush above his helmet and you could've done their sgn on the shield. You know that sign that looks like letter A. But other than that it is perfect!
"THIS - IS - SPARTA !"
Very nice. I have been to Thermopylae btw, and there is a cool statue to Leonidis there which I should have a photo of. If I find it, I will post it just for you mate. Great stuff.
quoting Bob Joe
0 1in 1997 a girl called lauren was walking through the forest and then she just disappeared. No one ever found her until 2000 when a young girl called Mary found her body and markings on her chest saying: I wasnt' pretty enough and now that you have read this she will appear in your mirror saying you're not pretty enough and kill you. By the way the girl called mary<3 died shortly afterwards. To be saved, paste this to five other bands. This is true. Now that you have started reading this, please do not stop. This is so scary. Post this on 5 pages in 143 minutes. When you are done, press F6 and your crushes name will appear on the screen in big letters. This is scary because it actually works btw great moc.
Messenger -This is blasphemy! Madness!

un-armoured, buffed out, sweaty men wearing metal thongs...WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
It's how it should be! There suposed to be un-armoured. They're Spartan's, they're suposed to be buff. They wore thongs in the movie and real-life. They're in battle, duh they're sweaty. He did great...all though the armour shoulda' been bronze...
this is just to tempting...
THIS IS SPARTA!!!
good job! bronze would have been more
accurate, but you could just say that the
shields and helmets r iron or something.
