A Year of Chewie Goodness
The Chinese calendar says that it is the year of the horse. LIES! All lies! It is the year of the Wookiee. ;)
About this creation
Well everyone, it has been a year “officially” for me here on Mocpages.

Thought I’d give a retrospective and get a little mushy with ya’ll.

My first moc I posted here was the Bulldog. Still a fun little buggy to vroom with.

Second was the Flying Mouse. Kinda innovative and fantastically swooshable.

Then came The Ecosse. This little fella has triggered the foundation for a story that I intend to build many mocs for. As of today, I have over 120 pages and 22 chapters/episodes written. Don’t get your hopes up just yet. It is in its infancy at this moment and will need to be refined and rewritten, so it may be quite some time before it comes to fruition. But, it will. I promise. I truly cannot wait to share it with everyone here. It is also one of many reasons that I have been so inactive lately. It’s rather absorbingly fun. ;)

Now for a bit of mushy. I cannot thank Michael Rutherford and Keith Goldman enough for encouraging an upstart like me to enter a little contest called Decisive Action. In addition to finding a frighteningly devious facet of my personality in regards to strategy, I also found that I had a small amount of talent for building war machines. I give your my tank, The Stahlman, and my battleship, The S.S. Chuck Norris. This little soirée into world domination triggered a renewed spark in building and presenting. (If you look at the progression of my builds for the game, there is a noticeable and embarrassing improvement.)

Anyways, thank you Michael and Keith!

Halfway through Decisive Action, I thought I’d try my hand at another little contest. Photo This Caption came along at the perfect time. Winning that will always hold a special place in my heart as being the first thing I have ever won with what I consider Art. And, more importantly, with what I am honestly proud of. A first on multiple levels!

Then there was the 2013 Mocolympics. I have never been so proud of my abilities and accomplishments than with my creations there. Not only were my builds fully realized, but my competitiveness throughout never faltered. The grueling competition earned me a second place overall, a badge I will wear with honor and pride as I lost to one of the greatest builders and respected talents these pages has ever known, Nick Barrett.

In honor of that, I give you my seven entries. (All of which were conceptualized and built within a couple days time. Brutal!)

And for the parting shot...

In closing, I want to sincerely thank all of you for everything. I love reading all your comments and promise to always respond individually to them. I look through all your builds and take immense pleasure in your own progress. I am enthusiastic about what the future holds for all of us here (Yes, even you Deus.)

I am excited beyond description about my adventures with VirtuaLUG which have proven to be a sinister, despicable, and unruly lot! I have never felt so comfortable and at home in all my life. Truly my kind of scoundrels. ;) Thank you guys and gals, this looks like the start of a beautiful relationship. Or, at least a starting point for later documentation when I'm taken away in a straightjacket. Oooooh, buckles!

To all of you that call me a favorite and everyone that just looks out of morbid curiosity, thanks again!

PLAY WELL MY FRIENDS!!!

Quoting Lego Jim .... Congrats on the anniversary. All your MOCs are top notch. They have a lot of personality and humor. You're one of the best. Keep at it.
Thank you very much Jim! And, BTW, welcome to Mocpages. Not so sure that I would agree that I am one of the best, just one of the insanely honest ones. Emphasis on insane. =] I guess it is the byproduct of having way too much fun. ;)

Quoting Chris Phipson Matt who? Jokes aside you've been such a great addition to the V-Lug (and MOCpages) family! One year down and at least a few more to go before Heath kills you in some drunken prank gone wrong! (that last sentence will be very awkward in 2016 won't it?) ~ Chris.
2016? More like this March 17! He's already tried with the J.P. Wiser's, think he'll try to finish the job St. Paddy's Day. XD Thank you Chris!

Quoting Leda Kat =^..^= Its astounding what you've achieved in your first year on mocpages. Its taken me nearly 4 and a half years to grow to even half of your skill level. You're a legend Matt and I can't wait to meet you in June. And I'll be saving my dollars between now and then so I'll have enough to win Robbie at the auction.
Thank you Leda! You're the best. I have always looked up to your builds as being the exemplar of the highest quality in skill and presentation. And above all, just pure fun. It's how I want to build. I can't ever thank you enough for your input and kind words and can't wait to see you at BW as well. I hope you get Robbie. He deserves it. ;)

Getting in 2nd place for your FIRST time competing in the MO is the best I have seen. Congrats good sir, you have officially become one of my favorite builders. I look forward to seeing more amazing mocs, and another great year!

Thank you Matt! Those two builds will always hold a special place in my heart for very different reasons. I am surprised, but not really, by everyone's connection with all the builds. Kinda what happens when you build honestly from the heart. ;) Looking forward to your Muppet inspired creation!

Quoting Achintya Prasad So a year then? I think we can say that LEGO as reeled you into the point of no return. Oh well, I guess we can be fellow inmates ;-) Congratulations on a year matt! I particularly enjoyed that Inception creation; I still hold it as one of the best creations ever built out of LEGO (and I've seen a lot). Here's to many years more of slaving over the mass of LEGO, to the terror of Bricklink (or seeing that one set that has all the parts you want), and, well, seeing all of us grow in the hobby of LEGO building. I'm looking forward to it all. Especially Decisive Action ;-)
Achintya, I don't think I could have said it better. I have every intention of wreaking havoc on the Lego world and giving it a healthy dose of humor and expansion. Should be fun! DA2.0 will be a blast! Thank you Achintya!

Quoting clayton Marchetti Sorting, if you mean taking parts that are already sorted and relocating them to the floor than yes yes they can. As for the forklift I can handle that. The 1 year old speaks Ethiopian I think she clicks a lot anyway. As for Excel well if you remember I couldn't figure out how to create a link to caption this photo contest. My son Tony knows some Excel. It's ok Brother if you already promised Robbie to Brickworld you have enough pics I could probably come pretty close to it.

Looking forward to what this year brings, it'll be hard to top 2013 but if anyone can do it it's you. Great meeting you in the cyberspace, even if you did choose the wrong opponent in DA. (I'm the judge, Nick's your competitor. Geez!)
Thank you Luke! I threw Chewie in the top tearing apart my "m" just because he kept hounding me to. Fine already! sheeesh. XD And who says that I chose the wrong opponent? It could be argued that you did. ;) (I do recall telling a certain "god" that the most powerful piece on the chess board was the one you least expect.) Besides, Primal Scream was too well tuned to be defeated. As far as the MOs go, I was more than happy with the final judgment. Had more fun than can be expressed. Quoting Tim C A great first year, Matt. You've brought something to the table that hasn't been brought to the extent that I've seen you do it. It's not just about great building with you, it's also about entertaining the viewer. You bring the smiles, man. You have not only built some great battle vehicles, but you have also brought some real nostalgia with Looney Tunes and Muppets. The scene from Inception has a stirring quality to it. And, of course, maybe most important of all, you've brought something that is too often forgotten and always underappreciated. You, Matt, have brought us Chewie. Here's hoping your next year is just as fun as your first.
Thank you Tim! I have so much fun creating and sharing that I can only hope that it fully translates through. I'm not quite right in the head to begin with; so, if I can share a bit o' crazy, then perhaps the world can become just a bit more tolerable. Or, at least entertaining. Chewie always adds immensely to that childlike wonderment in addition to an instantly honest smile. ;)

Quoting Heath 'kik36' Flor A full year on MOCpages, eh? Time sure does fly when you're having fun! It's been a pure pleasure watching you progress brother. Now STFU and pass the Wiser's!
When it comes down to Wiser's, I'll pass every drop. XP Thank you Heath! It's lunatics like yourself that make it all worthwhile. ;)

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) A year you can be proud of! But wait... no photo of a lock of your hair?! ;)
Thank you Topsy! As for a pic of me, I wouldn't want people to get crazy jealous of my awesome physique. XD Hey, that's not funny. Tell ya what, I will try to post a shot on my homepage sometime soon for proof of my golden locks. ;) I'll let you know when.

Quoting El Barto ! Heck of a year there, Chief! Impressive stuff, and great seeing it all on one page. Congrats on the 1st versary, and many more!
Thank you Bart! Looking forward to many years with VLUG and BSG, even though I died. Zombie Forest? XD

All this and now Chewie pics? This is a sad day in the history of the rowntRee. ;) Kudos on such a huge progression in just a year, I still can't believe you're so new a member. Looking forward to what this year brings, it'll be hard to top 2013 but if anyone can do it it's you. Great meeting you in the cyberspace, even if you did choose the wrong opponent in DA. (I'm the judge, Nick's your competitor. Geez!)

Quoting Alex Rode What a year it has been! One of the quickest rises to fame the 'pages have ever seen. "Even you, Deus" made me laugh. I'm coming up to my first year in April. Well, build on!
Thank you Alex! Let's hope the saying, "the star that burns twice as bright lasts half as long" is reserved for Blade Runner. Had to throw a dig at Deus as well, that's just plain fun. ;)

Well, you've made a big impression on a lot of people, not least yours truly - one heck of a first year! I've enjoyed all your builds; even the ones that shot at the CCCP... at least now the scores are even :-)

And the Looney Tunes build is still my favorite. Great variety of skillfully build models, young Wookie . . . errr, man . . . errr, dude. I'm starting the conceptualizing process on one project, preparing to build the set necessary for the next issue of Defective Comics, and avoiding Glomshire Knights for the next week or so (No worries, new episodes are already in the bag and should show up here very soon.) You've been a great addition to the 'pages, and a real scuzbag to VLUG. You, sir, might be a perfect human being (but I doubt it).

Straight Jacket. Here, you can borrow mine. http://mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=347610&id=/user_images/43671/1354204013m_DISPLAY.jpg Happy MOCiversary! I'm not sure we even call it that because for some of us, we've been MOCing before then and just didn't know what it was called or where to share our creations. Anyway, may there be many more Chewies in the pages to come.

It's been a smashing year for you, and for all of us as viewers. You've brought a lot of character and fun to the 'pages, and I am inspired by every piece of your work. This story sounds very interesting, I'm buzzing!! Thanks for a great year Matt, can't wait for more...as long as my lungs can keep up with your humor. ;D

A great first year, Matt.
