Aquanaut Barracuda
My next in the Aquazone series of creations, the so incredibly fish-like Aquanaut Barracuda! In my opinion, one of my best creations so far, when it comes to shape, colour and design! Enjoy the pinnacle of my design skills, and IT'S ONLY UPHILL FROM HERE!!
About this creation

Now you may remember that in the Aquazone line of sets, there was an Aquashark set called the Aquashark Barracuda. This is the Aquanaut's counterpart, just larger, faster and yellower.

With not one, not two but three propellers on the rear and just as many cockpits, this is a true beast of the deep, built for speed! The middle section, where the sub bends in two, is the mount for the two big propellers and also features a lookout canopy with the commander. The hydrodynamic front cockpit and the rear window also have their own crewmen, so the entire sub has a crew of three. On the front of the craft, there is also a sonar-like device, the use of which is known only to the Aquanauts.

As I stated before, this is my most perfect creation to date, mostly when it comes to colour: The top part is yellow, the underside is black, the canopies are trans blue and the details are trans-neon-orange (HHHHEY, Commander Cold! ). I hope this colour scheme is to your liking, Big D.!
Enjoy:

the shape!

It's incredibly fish like, at least I think so.

Really sleek and smooth. The way it breaks in the middle took me some time, and the design is really sturdy and looks amazing too!

If you look at it from the front, it almost looks chubby. However, this is a result of the break in the middle - it looks a lot better if you look at it from a different angle

Like here!

the interior details!
The cockpit, with Mister T piloting it. lots of controls, a HUD, sonar, crew radio...

Interesting fact: The whole crew wears sunglasses. Too hot to handle but too cool to touch!

The middle canopy! This one is actually meant to open (it's the entrance to the sub and also an airlock while submersed), that's why the commander is wearing his diver suit, he can't wait to go out and explore!

For this or that reason he also has a pair of levers and a computer screen to control absolutely everything that's going on.

Only thing worse than wearing different coloured socks: Bringing different coloured flippers!

The rear cockpit, kinda cramped, but at least the second pilot has a nice view - there's no rear fin in between!

some more nice shots (a lot more):
showing the details of the sub. I really didn't go overboard with equipping it with all sorts of stuff, since it looks nice without the extra gear: simple aesthetics.

The front again, just to show how I pulled off the 6 stud to 4 stud transition. The knives in the nozzles came out really great, as they're original pieces from my only aquanaut set.

The flimsy stand that broke all the time. But as I said before, the design is very sturdy.

I couldn't resist adding this in: The grabbing arm is an obligatory piece when it comes to Aquazone! It's pretty small though, as grabbing and storing things is not the primary role of the sub.

it's also very SWOOSHable!!

Someone asked what kind of light setup I use, well here it is. It's far from being a professional light tent, but it does it's job (for now).

The design that holds the ship together - there are two clips on the bottom, so it can't freely flap around. I'm sure you can see them if you look through the pictures.

For the finale I made some photoshopped pictures of the sub in action! Since I'm unable to crate any kind of a bubble effect, a simple background should do.

I hope you enjoyed this build, please comment, rate and visit my homepage!

Hello once again, my Slovenian friend. I have returned to the internet after a weekend at the Brickworld AFOL convention. I bought, of course, alot of Ice Planet, some Spyrius, and some Aquazone parts and minifigs, particularly Aquasharks. My next few MOCs will be that of The Aquasharks, but I am not stopping there. After those are done, I'll return to my usual Ice Planet MOCs; some more Monorail, some buildings, and a few unique MOCs like a re-colored Star Destroyer (To show Star Wars I am not afraid)and then I haven't got much planned, but we'll see.

It's so masterful! I love it's particular design and its shark-like shape makes it look menacing to any sea creature out there! I like the overall yellow-blue- and trans orange color combo too, plus the little claw arm thing in it's underbelly is brilliant! I can't believe I didn't comment on this any time sooner. Nice editing on the background too! Keep On Brickin'!

Really cool vehicle... You use the suits for real Aquazone. I use them for armor. :| Interesting!!!

More underwater goodness. I can't get over how much these builds of yours make me think of The Abyss. Love all the different cockpits, especially that front one. I like how you took all that space and didn't feel like you had to stuff two people in it;) Clever work on giving the sub that directional shift in the center. Very creative. Nice touch with the claw.

Quoting Matt Hanson My only critique would be to add some smooth plating to the little trianlge peices by the center cockpit to give it a plated, armoured look. But overall very nice.
I considered that, but an armoured plated look wasn't really what I was going for. Thanks for the comment!

Quoting Commander Cold How do you do it? Not even my most popular creation has gotten over 50 likes. I'm still very happy I have followers like you, thanks. I thought some of my creations were good, I guess I'm wrong. I guess some people got it, and some people don't. You've got it, and I don't. :(
Hey hey. Don't get down on yourself, I've been active on mocpages for two years now, and only recently did my creation get 50+ likes (some more than it should, mostly because of your comments ;) You just mustn't give up, be active in groups, comment on other people's creations, get some favourites and just improve your building style. It's gonna come eventually.

The bend is immediately evident, great touch. It's little things like that which can make all the difference. I'm sure it took some engineering troubleshooting to incorporate that into the design. My only critique would be to add some smooth plating to the little trianlge peices by the center cockpit to give it a plated, armoured look. But overall very nice.

Quoting Commander Cold I think you should make something in the AquaSharks and Hydronauts themes.
I don't have any aquasharks parts, I was thinking of a bricklink order but that's a no-go. It'd cost me 50€ minimum, which I can ill afford

Quoting Commander Cold One of the reasons I loved the Aquanauts (As well as the main reason the Aquasharks were my favorite Aquazone theme) is because it gave me lots of cool Neon orange pieces to use in my Ice Planet 2002 models. It's quite an interesting color, isn't it?
Oh yes, it really is very appropriate for details, as it stands out. I am thinking of placing a brickling order for all kinds of aquazone and aquashark pieces, maybe I'll continue this series!

Exhilarating! Everything on this submarine-moc is simply perfect, elegant, and welldesigned! It is great, when an craft has an small crew ( maybe you find some more appropriate minifig-assemlies, but the commander is perfect). Very welldone!

Very nice, a sleek design, I absolutely love how you implemented the octogonal canopy in the middle. One thing I like less is the break in the middle, it does enhances the 'fishy' look but I think it also reduces its agility. Anyway, I'm looking forward to more in the genre, keep it up.
