GP-01 Classic Space Locomotive

The Classic Space astronauts need a way to haul lots of cargo on lunar surfaces over long distances. The General Purpose Space Locomotive answers that call!
About this creation

The General Purpose Space Locomotive (GP-01) is designed to haul any type of cargo over long distances. Its streamlined design allows it to cut through the nonexistent space atmosphere with ease.

As with the Classic Space spaceships, the GP-01 has navigation lights on the exterior. Red is on the left and green is on the right ("red is not right" is the saying). It also has a functional and rotating satellite dish for communications.

The front view of the GP-01. Side note: the light fixture does not exist in LDD.

The back of the locomotive shows the exhaust ports for the locomotives generator. What powers the GP-01? Hopes and dreams.

Two PF Train Motors make the GP-01 move. Inside there is room for the IR Receiver, Battery Box, and Control Switch (not shown since the part does not exist in LDD).

The cab view of the GP-01. As with any Classic Space equipment that does not require a steering wheel, this has one.

It also comes in Futuron colors!

The GP-01 in both Classic Space and Futuron color schemes side by side.

*Twitch's Remarks*
This project came about in several ways. I always wanted to make a non-steam powered locomotive. Looking at cyberfrank's train work, specifically the Super Andersol XL-5, I knew what sort of basic design that I wanted. Like cyberfrank, I wanted to alter an official set. This is based on 7897 Passenger Train. I wanted to keep the design futuristic, yet still have that Classic Space feel to it. Hence the color scheme and the yellow/black stripe.
I am currently working on a set of train cars for this locomotive. I want to go with an intermodal/modular design that has both freight and passenger modules. I have been in contact with both of the Davids (we all know who I am talking about), and they have given some good advice. Any other advice is welcome!

As always, please rate and comment with your thoughts! Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Quoting jd davis Very nice! I only wish that the nose cone came in blue in a set. Then i would build this thing in real life in the Classic Space scheme! SPACESHIP!
I wish it came in blue, too. The Futuron color one should be able to be built with real bricks, though.

Quoting Commander Cold What does the GP and 01 stand for?
"GP" stands for "General Purpose" and the "01" means that it is the first space locomotive of its line. It should have been somewhat laid out in the description above.

Quoting Mihe Stonee beautiful shaped ! very clean lines... i like the side-wing piece ;-)
Thank you! I wanted this to resemble a sleek aircraft/spaceship. The wing pieces are supposed to be intakes of some kind.

Quoting David Alexander Smith This is so different a train than I imagined. Maybe my imagined CS universe is a lot more clunky and asymmetric. Saying that, I love the sleek design; reminds me of a Concorde on rails.
My next space locomotive will be "more clunky" since it will be more of a shunter. Since this is for long distance hauling I wanted something sleek and spaceship looking. I am glad that you like the design, thank you.

Quoting David Roberts I like the smooth lines of this loco. It would be great if the black and yellow stripes went all the way along the train. It would also be fun if the space behind the driver opened up to show a greebled engine.
Concerning the stripes, There is no way to get it to go on the outside of the "intakes" nor on the doors. The space behind the engineer is for the Control Switch to switch the polarity of one of the PF Train Motors so that they both run in the same direction. The engine for the locomotive would actually sit where the IR Receiver and Battery Box are. Thank you for the feedback and for adding me as a favorite builder!

Quoting Commander Cold Care to make any monorails? I am making some. I would like for you to comment on them. I need input on them so I know what to do with them!
I am not a monorail person (I prefer two rails instead of one), but I will lend some advice. Did you have any ideas for the train car issue that I mentioned above?

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 it looks awesome! you can bet that I d buy that train if it ever got on shelves, the front part just rocks! I can t wait to see what you ll come up with next!
I would buy it, too. The Futuron one should be able to be built in real bricks since that front section is only made in white (unfortunately).

Quoting Sven Jagdmann Interesting and nice idea. Would fit perfectly to Cyberfrank's classic Space base ;) Nice Job!
The compliment is very much appreciated. I designed it to be able to fit in with its Classic Space brethren. To be told that it does means that I have accomplished that.
