USS SULACO
From the movie Alien II (the best part i think...) - i prodly present the USS SULACO
About this creation
A long journey is on this ship for myself... Since i saw the movie i wanted to built this beauty (o.k. that's years back...)! The start wasn't bad - i built the round middle section, which should be also my scale. I searched for the blueprint. Than i layed over a grid to meassure out the proportions - and let'S go (i thought...) But like every big project this ship has some difficult sections in it, where i often started thinking how can i do this or that.
The most headscratching part was the big round engine with it's for cuts. I wanted to do it with nearly any gaps. So that was the part i need 2 years for the right solution...! The rest of the ship was done in LDD in 2-3 months and the building itself needed 3-4 weeks.

Here is a LINK for more information about the ship and the movie, for those who don't know it

O.k. some facts:
parts: 9640 - ( i thought i could run the 10.000 mark, but sh.. on )
length: 137cm = 170studs
height: 39cm
wide: 19cm
weight: i really don't know but maybe 5-6kg - it is heavy!

Here is the blueprint, where i got the proportions. I also have many reverence pictures, but i think you could look for that yourself ;-)

And here the built :-) !

The classic view - out of the movie

the hole sideview

The enginge. Here it was really hard to find good reverences, where you can see something!

Here you can good see the round engine with the "cuts" on each side.

the round middle section - (my scale)

the side twin-turrets

the under turret

the upper turret

this sections was also not easy, beacause it's getting narrower from 7 to 6 studs.

i love how this curve turned out :-) !

The letters ;-) and yes the little grey line on the left means "USS" You can'T read it ? Than built a bigger one ! ;-) ! HAHA

The antennas on the front. I'M really happy that they don't fall to the floor... And you can see also the frontend getting narrower from the side -

as also from the top.

the side turrets again

The Dropship leaving the Sulaco

The Assas modlue

The middle section

Some greebles on the under front

The little Dropship

And here for those who are interested some WIPs (technics i used)

The Letters

The SNOT-technic in the letter section

That's the upper and under part of the enginge

THe side parts of the engine

and the middle section

I hope you had a good journey through these pictures - and like this ;-)

Update 07.04.2014:

This model will be shown in the new book Beautiful Lego 2 , which ill be released in october 2014

Quoting Disco Chicken AWESOME! If you work on ldd, and LEGO took the feature away on ldd to order your creation in the parts, box, and with instructions, then how did you build this?
Thanks first - that's not as complicated as it look like ;-) for the most parts i know how many i have (round about). And with LDD you could still calculate a "part-list" via "html". Ther from i make the list in excel with little pictures, description and partnumber. Than order the pieces i still need via bricklink. O.k. and the instruction part is a little more complicated ;-) i built this ship in many modules. So that i can easier follow the 3D-model how to create it. I coloured all the black in different coulours, dismatel a module in LDD and built it next to it up again - part for part. that's the shortest way i think. Because to create good instructions via MLCAD + LPUP is more timeconsuming...

Quoting Simon Widmark That is just plain epic man! Really like the detail, ofcourse. Mainly the engine I really think you captured spot on, and that IS tricky. The size really does it. Gosh. So very impressed! :) I must ask though: Why black, when the original is more blueish/grey? Is it easier to come by special parts in black, or do you just prefer it that color? I saw you had your Nostromo black too (really like that MOC too!), though it is greyish in the movie. Was just wondering. Is there a special reason for black? :)
Thanks ;-) ! The only reasone why i built this Lady also in black - was that i have the most parts in black... And so i designed the Nostromo before in black because i also don't print the money in my beedroom ;-) For this Lady there wasn't to much orders nessesery... And a Little bit i think it Looks more like "Horror" ;-) i mean - if i would ask you: why are all spaceships in grey??? what would you say ? The Nostromo should been at the first thinking of the designer in yellow! that had been cool ;-)

Quoting Topsy Cret A way to fix the 'USS' is to make it in the 1x1 black tiles with letters printed on them.
;-) Yes you right for this! I thought about that, but what i don't wanted to do is to sh... on the scale! And the 1x1 bricks would be 3! And in my scale the "USS" is only 2 Points wide... So that wasn't an solution for me.

Mihe, this is wonderful. Just a gorgeous ship from beginning to end. I was especially happy to see this LDD project realized as the design and the WIPs had me following from the start. I love the shape and how you achieved it. Some really intriguing techniques went into those angles. The round section in the middle is excellent, and I absolutely love that little drop ship. Really excellent work and congratulations in completing this long time project.
