2014 MOCathalon: Journey to the Storm
Category: Forced Perspective Team: Das Lego
About this creation
For the 2014 MOCathalon.
As soon as I saw this category up for grabs, I took it. :P Because I totally knew what I wanted to build for it. Just a little scene from my recently finished book, Legend of the Ops: Initiation. ;)

“This is it.” Jess padded out onto the beach that separated the park from the water. “Lake Michigan.”
If anything, the beach was more filthy than the park. And completely deserted. Cans and scraps of metal and paper were scattered across the sand. And the storm seemed much closer and more bizarre from their position near the lake. Thunder rumbled softly in the distance as lightning lit up the clouds. A sudden breeze whipped at their clothes, as if the storm was taunting them to come closer. . . .

A close up of the storm. I tried a few ideas before I got this. The slopes work pretty well. And the lightning doesn't look too bad. xP

The littered sand with the figs.

The littered sand without the figs. :P

Well, this was a fun build. Hope I get a decent score. :P Better get started on my next. Thanks for reading! And more to come soon!

Quoting Kai Bernstein I REALLY like the landscaping; the color distribution and layering patterns are perfect! But as for the storm clouds...I had to be told what it was to recognize it. I can sort of see it now, but it's still too symmetrical and blocky for my taste.
Yeah, I sort of ran out of ideas with the cloud. :P But thanks anyway.

Armon, nice idea for the forced perspective. The texturing and the colors on the beach were a nice touch. However, your forced perspective was a little basic. The lightning was interesting, but perhaps a few more would would make it look better. Also, tiles would perhaps make the lightning a little more believable. The clouds, though a nice idea, seem a little straightforward and too orderly to be clouds. Score: 2
