TT Round 5: Andrew vs. Jacob
Guild: The Crimson Knights
About this creation
The Tourney 2014

Category:
- The Medieval Stronghold:
Many of the knights who competed in the Tourney live in a castle or some other type of fortress. For this round, step into the shoes of an architect and build the stronghold of one of these knights (does not have to be your character). We encourage you to be very creative with this category and donít be afraid to use your imagination. All scales (micro-full-size) are acceptable. (a lone tower embedded in a cliff's side or a personal castle on flowing plains are both acceptable)

So, from the first photo, you can see that I went with micro-scale. Now although it may seem small, I tried to pack this build with details. Including half-stud offsets in the walls, snotted front (the field and river thing), and the small town inside the castle (with some smoke coming out of some of them!). So, without further ado, here's the build!

~~~~The Front~~~~
This is the front of the build. I placed the river in it to give it a peaceful and somewhat happy look even though the bricks making up the plains are dark.
Those lightsaber handle like things were soooooo annoying to keep putting up, so I just left them lying down for some of the pictures. XP
This is probably my favorite picture... The lighting and the view.... ahh..... :)
~~~~~The Castle~~~~~
Now that we have that first part out of the way, now for the main part of the build. The castle!
This castle was very fun to build since I haven't ever really built microscale before. I would like to thank AK_Brickster for the castle building tips!

Notice the offset walls? (This was a favorite part of mine that's why I keep mentioning it and showing pictures of it). :)

I like how this part came out.

That's right, I put a village inside of this! This is actually what most castles had inside of them, so that's why it's in there. I think it looks pretty cool. The technic pieces are what I used for my smoke technique. I think that was pretty cool too.

The keep.

I got the back wall ideas from AK_Brickster too.

Ohhh! Look! The back opens up. Nice........

Looks like Emmet..... Wait Emmet?....... Okay....... Looks like Emmet owns this castle. :P

Cool shot of the wall....

The towers are all unique and I think they all came out pretty good. (I like that phrase: "Pretty Good") :)

~~~~Other Cool Stuff~~~~
This small section is pretty much just the section in the very front of the build, the cutout...
Ohhhh......
Ahhhh....
(Okay I know those were the photos of the same thing, I just had fun doing that!)
~~~~~Full Build~~~~~
Guess what section this is about? You guessed it, cooked salmon!!!! (Okay I'm having way too much fun with this) :P

Thanks for looking! God Bless! May the best builder win!

Really nice micro Andrew! I particularly like the wall detailing. Definitely a different take than most of the entries this competition. I refrained from judging this round because of obvious reasons ;)

Quoting Gilbert Despathens These are both respectable entries with mixes of good details and detractors, but what decided this challenge for me was your front wall. The fang-plate portcullis was iffy, the lightsaber handles were unnecessary and I didn't care for the corners due to the way the angle and quarter-circle pieces have those holes along the bottom, but the arched section with its offsets and those stylish batters combined with the complexity of the gatehouse won me over. Good luck in the finals!
Thanks!

Quoting Graham Gidman Man, this has been a hard round to judge. I toyed back and forth on this one for a long time, but in the end I'm gonna have to give my vote to Jacob. Still, an amazing entry!
Okay... Thanks.

Quoting Grant Davis Super close! One of the things I think you could have done better was mix up your ground techniques, its all plates straight line of rocks and then snotted drank green. Having different elevations would have been better, Jacob gets my vote.
Okay... I agree with the landscape thing...

Quoting Mark McPeek Hi Andrew. Boy, this is a very difficult decision. Both of you built spectacular entries. I debated over this for a while. I was really impressed with your micro-scale work, detailing, and architecture. The detailing and design on Jacob's MOC was equally impressive. However, your were able to impress me a bit more. My vote goes to you. Fantastic work and good luck with the other judges!
Thanks!

When I first looked at the picture I didn't realize it was micro-scale because it looked so detailed from a distance. Great! I especially like the sideways build for the river.

Looking great, Andrew! I love the marshy section in front of the castle. The castle itself, and the village, are fantastic. Excellent micro architecture, your attention to detail is really evident there. Excellent work, and good luck with the judges!
