"Showtime 100" F-4J, rendered and edited with Gimp.
About this creation

Rendered and edited picture of the model, with a basic base plane and solid background. Learning how to apply enhancements to the image using Gimp 2, and then transform them to match the surfaces.

Unrendered LDD model, rotated 135 degrees and camera placed for POV-Ray conversion.

The original model as completed in LDD.

Quoting James Conrad Fantastic design. Should be a set.
I'ld submit my aircraft to LEGO CUUSOO, but they won't allow anything military post-WWII. I had started posting them on the LEGO website originally in the galleries, but they were removed as being "offensive". For some reason Nazi's are acceptable as officially licensed LEGO products, but a kid can't post a modern plane (even sans weaponry) for the sake of political correctness.

Quoting Matt Bace The new main picture looks great! A big improvement.
Took your suggestions and did some editing. May go back again once I learn to "curve" images in Gimp to make the "decals" more closely follw the shape of the fuselage. Always something new to learn!

Quoting clayton Marchetti Good hunting Showtime! Excellent work
It's sad this aircraft never made it back to the carrier, thankfully the crew did. One of the episodes of the Military History show "Dogfights" was about this engagement, including the unfortunate end of "Showtime 100" to an SA-7. The fact that Cunningham nursed it to the coast at all with the catastrophic damage it had received is nothing short of amazing. The least I could do was build a suitable tribute.

Quoting Matt Bace Once again, very nice. One thought though: For a shot like this, you might consider rendering the picture without a baseplane and then pasting in some kind of background under the rendered image. Having the shadows visible so close makes it look like the Phantom is about to make a really bad landing :-).
Done. :D

Thanks! This was my first attempt at "decaling" one of my models, I may go back and re-do them with what I've learned since.

It's been a while since I used Gimp, so having to re-teach myself how to utilize it. As I learn more I'm updating the pics to reflect it. It's still a challenge to apply markings to the aircraft, both because of the complex angles and the stepped nature of the brick surface. I do love how this one turned out tho, it's my new desktop background. :D
