MA/14 M.C. Escher
Category: M.C. Ecsher Team MOC-Speed
About this creation
For the 2014 MocAthalon

In this MOC, I attempted (with pretty good results) M.C. Escher's work of Ascending and Descending. I also through in some impossible supports (in explanation picture).

Hope you enjoy, because it was a pain to get the angles to work out right.

Here is what the set-up was

You'll notice that the pillar in the very back wasn't actually supporting the balcony. From the main picture, it looks like the one soldier is leaning back against one of the arches. The pillars are angled relative to their bases to make them look like they are straight up and down relative to the camera angle. The main wall is also angled quite a bit even though that is not apparent from the main photo.
Of course, the highlight is how it seems that the soldiers are constantly going up and down the same set of stairs continually.

Here is a nicer view of the main photo

GO Team MOC-Speed!

Thanks for looking, God bless!

David FNJ

Some great angles going on here, well done, that can't have been easy to nut out. Sadly though, the super-clean build style means i find myself getting distracted by the number of elements that aren't fully pressed in. Push yer bricks down mate! ;)

For reasons stated below (though I do not believe it suffices a full 4), Score: a strong 3

Great job on getting all those difficult angles! It would have easily made a 5 if you had added a few more details, it looks a bit plain. Score: 4

Really excellent work! Unfortunately, I think it just shies short of a 5, score = a very high 4. I just see way to many studs, but the whole idea is awesome! Great job!

I think the illusion is off since the figs aren't all facing the same direction, but it's good work, nonetheless.

Quoting Gilbert Despathens All of those exposed studs are kind of surprising, but the twisty design is very nice.
Yeah, I know, not my usual forte you could say. I'll have to revisit this sometime when I have some time XD
