2014 MOCathalon, Team Plastic Surgeons: Small Story Tower.
Build a tower at least 3 levels high telling a story or depicting a theme. IE: Star Wars Episodes, Lord of the Rings scenes, Monsters, evolution of technology, etc. Here's the catch, it can be no larger than 8x8, minimal overhang (IE, a minifig arm here, a plant leaf hanging over there, etc)
About this creation
Team Plastic Surgeons.

Okay, back to a little irreverence. Seeing that I have never done a story tower, and figuring that everyone and their brother would do something along the lines of LOTR or the Hobbit, I took it upon myself to just have a short little adventure with my friend Heath.

The Misadventures of Heath and matt in "Shanghaied in Slovakia!"

Enjoy!

(All animals were hurt or killed in the making of this story.)

matt - Hey, Heath, it's a good thing we found this distillery in Bratislava.

Heath - I know! Who would have thought it possible, Eastern European whisky.

matt - I'm sure they won't mind us "liberating" one from their stores.

Heath - They'll never know. Yar!

matt - What was that for?

Heath - Oh, nuthin'. Keep pushing. yar.

Heath - Hope you tipped that bellboy for loading our barrel on the suitcase rack.

matt - Uhhhmm... Ya! Ya, sure did.

Heath - Hey, where's my Snicker's bar?

matt - Errr... Here! Have a drink.

Heath - Oh! Thanks. Cheers!

matt - Bottoms up, Buttercup!

matt - Well that swill ran through me like honeydew vine water.

Heath - Yar! Er... I mean, Ya. Kinda weak in old spirit department out here. Let's get some more at the hotel bar. WHAT THE...

matt - Closed?!?

Heath - Well, we should probably get some sleep anyway.

matt – lightweight twit.

Heath – What?

matt – I said, “might wait a bit” ‘cause we’re just getting started.

Heath – We really should go get some sleep.

matt – crotchety old fool.

Heath – What?

matt – I said, “credit cards rule” ‘cause we can go to another bar and keep on imbibing my salty brutha. Come on, I’m driving.

Heath – Okay, I’ve heard of parallel parking, but PERPENDICULAR!

matt – What!?! There was a fudgecicle in the road. Besides, it’s a rental.

Heath – Oh, alrightythen.

(Let me just say that I do NOT condone driving under the influence. In fact, I don’t recommend driving at all. There are enough sober crazies out there to drive a person to drink. XD )

matt – This place looks fun.

Heath – I don’t know, matt. Why do I hear Wham!?

matt – wussy.

Heath – What?

matt – I said, “trust me” ‘cause this place is a rockin’. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?

Heath – Is it me, or are we in some sort of cavern?

matt – It’s just funky décor, you know these Eastern Europeans. They aren’t as sophistimacated as us ‘Muricans. The bar is probably through that door. You know something, I feel real dizzy all of a sudden.

Heath – Why does it smell like kitty litter? I need to sit down a sec.

matt - I can't see this ending well. Say Heath, nice tat!

Heath - Oh, thanks! I just got it.

matt - It matches your tighty whiteys.

Heath - Wha... I don't wear... matt?

matt - Yo!

Heath - I'm gonna keel haul you!

Cue the Yakity Sax .

(God bless Benny Hill.)

The lower half.

And the upper half.

Pretty maids all in a row.

Fourth Wall: Thank you judges for another fun category to sink my teeth into, and my liver. ;) I love the idea of a story tower and have always wondered if I could do one. The story part had to be condensed into something of only a couple frames but the tower had to be confined to 8X8 and be made stackable. Oh, and not fall over. ;) I tried some fun techniques to get it all to balance, and I used some interesting methods of building that never before occurred to me. I’m particularly pleased with the floor in the hotel bar and the archway in the distillery. But my favorite part is the crushed car. It actually slides into a slot in the bottom of the upper story. All of it is astonishingly stable and I figure I could go several stories higher. But, I think you've all read enough. For now. ;)

Stay tuned for another chilling episode of The Misadventures of Heath and matt!

Go Team Plastic Surgeons!

GAK! I almost forgot. (Actually, I did.) Here's the link to the reference of the final scene in case you missed it earlier in the MOCathalon. Dog Ate My Homework . Enjoy that too!

Quoting Andy Price First time seeing one of these story towers - excellent! Love it - "Blue Oyster Bar" indeed :) Ha ha!
Thank you Andy! Couldn't resist the Blue Oyster. XD These towers are a kick, take a bit of engineering as well as a fun story.

Hasselhoff came in every KITT. XD My goal in life is to hammer on everyone's icy brains. It's not just a job, it's an adventure. ;) Thank you Michael!

Quoting Tim C Always hilarious. Some really nice building throughout, though. I couldn't be more on the same page; the car is definitely the best part. Seeing the two figs sitting next to it also gave me the biggest laugh. It is important not to take ourselves too seriously, Matt, especially considering what we do as a hobby, but I don't think there's anyone that I've seen on this site that is able to balance really intriguing building styles with looking at yourself and your builds with a constant tongue in your cheek. I think we crotchety old codgers sometimes get all caught up in what we're building and forget to have fun, (even though I can't imagine you aren't tearing your hair out every once in a while with these builds). Thanks for keeping it all in perspective, Mr. Rowntree.
God Tim, such insight gets you TWO rounds at BW! XD First off, let me say thank you for the compliment. Secondly, there will never be any issues with me taking myself seriously. Life's just way too short for that sort of nonsense. Jimmy Buffett said it best: It's never too late to have a happy childhood. In all sincerity, I hold this philosophy dear to my heart. Thirdly, I have an intensely methodical mind. Building in Lego comes natural to me. That is good AND bad. I am forcing myself to build everything in a new light. I honestly want to see things from a renewed angle. Building quality, oddly enough, is the direct result. My experience has been just for my own benefit, but with this community and their eager absorption of everything, I feel that it is more of a responsibility to remind people that it is all about having fun. This is the beginning of an emergent Art, it NEEDS to be encouraged and reminded that it's roots are in play. A healthy dose of Hedonism is a good thing, especially when I'm pulling out my hair to try and make a moc work. ;) Thank you once again Mr. Clark. =]

Thank you David! Cast iron livers, must be the Scottish blood in me. Or just simply the Scotch. XD I think a pub crawl would be hilarious fun! Been to England and Scotland pubs before, perhaps you can explain why the fun pubs are always down an alley and up a flight of stairs? It's like a gauntlet! Throw down several pints and it becomes a new level of Darwinism. XD

My favorite part of this creation is how you crashed I mean perpendicularly parked the rental. The car looks fantastic all crumpled up. Sorry parked. I like how you switched the peg leg around when he's in his undies. Brilliant work Brother!
Thank you Brother! You and Wolverine both caught the leg switch. It was my homage to Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein. Highly pleased that you guys caught it! ;) I wonder how many know the Police Academy movies here on MP? I'm certain the AFOLs do but at what age does the youngest one remember that? Not that it really matters, not the finest of films out there but a large part of our generation's adolescence. ;) Here's a twisted thought, I actually want to watch them again, at least the first couple. Twisted and scary! XD There should be a law against mocs that make you want to watch any Steve Guttenberg movie again.

YES!!! Thank you Wolverine! You win the grand prize for picking out the most obscure movie reference in the moc. One of my all time favorite movies is Young Frankenstein. In it, Igor's lump moves from right to left and back several times. couldn't resist throwing that in there in the hopes that someone would get it. Great eye there buddy! ;)
