PAB tips + What I bought
Tips for getting more bricks for your buck at pick a brick walls in your local lego store!
About this creation
Today I went to the bluewater lego shop (UK). I bought a small PAB (pick a brick) cup and filled it with 578 pieces (I counted). I also bought a 75000 clone troopers vs. droidekas star wars set. My lil bro got a city car transporter, 3 custom minifigs and a lego movie super cycle chase set as a present.

PAB TECHNIQUES

The main thing is to stick the bricks together in the shape of the cup, fill in the gaps with little pieces and then do the next layer. Fill the stud on the top of the cup too and fill the inset circle at the bottom of the cup. IF YOU CAN HEAR PIECES EASILY WHEN YOU SHAKE THE CUP, YOU'VE DONE IT WRONG! You must've missed some gaps :) Another tip is that the small cup is better value. Look it up if you want - people have done calculations. The PAB cups are also good storage containers and (I think) are stackable. However, reusing them gets you 50p off the price. So choose which one you want - I prefer the container! Here are some pictures:

Thanks for looking! Hope this helps :) Going to the Westfield one sometime - so more tips will come :) ;) BTW Some of these pieces will help me finish my SHIP! Watch out for it this week / next week!

Quoting Sam Sanister Well, you did put smaller pieces in your cup, whereas the pieces I put in mine were bigger.
True ;) But the small ones were gap fillers so.. :)

Quoting Kevin Yoo Thanks for informing me on how PAB is priced. And are those 2x2 flat plates old grey? I found some hinged pieces in old grey at PAB last year and bought a load of them.
Really? No they are bley. I'm really annoyed now that I've found out about bley and grey cos I have both! It's really annoying.. I agree that bley looks better but when you put them with grey >:( I had to mix them in my SHIP as I don't have enough of one colour to do the whole thing :(

Quoting N64 Ninja One problem with the Pick a Brick at the Lego store in my mall is that it doesn't have every kind of brick in every color, or at least I don't think so.
There are thousands of elements ;) you just have to choose from what's there :)

Quoting Kevin Yoo I thought they priced the PAB package based on weight, not by cupful. (Or at least the one in Legoland California does.) Nice tip on saving money in PAB!
Legoland pabs are done by weight and have a very big selection. Store pabs are done by cups but have a smaller selection. Pab stores are a good source of basic bricks at a decent price but the real winner is when they have rare bricks! Buy loads. Sell them for a profit on bricklink! Thanks for stopping by!

Quoting The Timinater ! yup.... makes me wish we had a PAB store nearby...
Oh. How far is your nearest one? It might be worth phoning your nearest one and asking what they've got, going there and spending the day pabing - its really worth the effort.

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 he, he, I have been there Friday last week, I stacked it tight, no sound, they even taped the cover, I talked to the manager, and I bought 3 cases of bricks, because nobody ever does that, he had problems charging me with the cash machine, there where 650 2x4 in each case, dark grey, green, and tan.
Haha! Thats great :) this was just a quick shop - when I go to westfield it'll be the whole day ;)

Quoting Alex Sonny Nice, now I just wish there was a store closer to me. The nearest one is currently in a neighbour country :( (a store with PAB, that is).
Wow! And I was complaining about the queues on the M25! How feeble!

Do you pay by weight or by cup though :/ Apparently its by weight which means worse value...

Quoting David Alexander Smith I see black slope too - I can never have too many black slopes :)
Yup! They are great for spaceships! I need about 312 of them to make the ship look good and hundreds of tiles too if I make it smooth :) BTW do you know which lego store in the UK has the biggest PAB wall?
