Medieval Village #1: 1st Half
So, it's been a while since I uploaded anything and I feel the need to show that I have not been lazy.
About this creation
Hey all!

This build has been in progress for close to 4 months, over that course of time it has had around 100 hours of building put into it and used around 30'000 pieces. It was built with the help of a good RL friend of mine, Jason Walker. For anyone wondering, it was built on 32x 32x32 baseplates in a 4x8 configuration, it is basically 2 square meters in area.

As suggested in the title, this is only the first half of the entire scene, with the second half about to be started on. Don't hold your breath for the second half, I do not expect to have it completed before June.

Credit for the Churches stained glass window has to go to Katie Walker, aka, eilonwy77. I did add two pieces into the design to add some extra friction but the overall design is Katie's.

In this post there are 73 photos, luckily, it was overcast today so the lighting was perfect for the photography! I hope Ya's enjoy!

Wow this is spectacular and crazy impressive and I can't even begin to try and tell you how amazing it is. The hugeness is really quite something and how you had the patience to place that many round studs down blows my mind

Quoting Marc dZ How many round tiles did you use?... Anyway, this is just superb!!! Eagerly waiting for the next part.
Thanks Marc, this half used close to 12'000 round studs, I have had to purchase another 5'500 of them in anticipation of the building on the second half :)

I still wonder -after watching a dozen times- where is the most beautiful work done. The delicate landscape? The subtle texture on walls, mansions and towers? How many round tiles did you use?... Anyway, this is just superb!!! Eagerly waiting for the next part.

Man, this is so beautiful! All the different components are arranged so nicely, it gives a big village vibe but you can still see the detail of the individual houses. Great stuff! I can NOT wait to see the completed layout at the July show! :D (assuming it's going to be there)

Quoting Brian Stokes Excellent build, my only suggestion would be to add a little contrast on the castle walls to add some depth to the structure. The village houses are filled with beautiful contrasts so continue it a little bit with the castle walls.
Well kept Castle walls back in the day did not have much contrast, I also like the different look to the houses and smaller buildings. Too many people are doing multicoloured castle walls, it is historically inaccurate when thinking about a castle in its prime. Thanks for the comment :)

that architectural style you used on the bldgs with the red roofs is something I've never seen before, and it has a visually stunning effect. This is a build of both quality and quantity. There's so much story embedded into the micro-scenes that are scattered all throughout it. Your sandy beach and wavy water is a masterpiece.

Fantastic, Thoy. That 1x1 round plate has become one of my favorite pieces over the past couple years, and you have put them to good use. The cobblestone paths look great, as well as the stone walls. And dragons? Why not dragons? They turned out great as well. Wonderful piece of work, and I can't wait to see what's in the making for the rest of the piece.

Quoting Grant W. I would suggest maybe breaking up the light grey of the wall with some dark grey plates or tiles.
Interesting suggestion :) I have deliberately gone for the smooth monotone walls, not only does it match the look of a 'well-kept castle in its prime', it also adds a certain cleanliness in the opposite corner to the water. Balance is key. I might add, the movie's Troy and Kingdom of Heaven, give a much better example of what castles/fortifications really looked like in their prime :)

You have done a very nice job with this. There is an excellent amount of detail in the buildings outside the castle, however the castle walls themselves are somewhat bland and suffer from blank grey wall syndrome. I would suggest maybe breaking up the light grey of the wall with some dark grey plates or tiles.
