Faction: Mythron Race: Human Name: Julie Liberia Evelyn-Esca Papalatronus (L.E.E.P.) Age: 16 Okay, after a ridiculously long tussle with Java and the photo uploader, I am happy to finally post my intro for LOM. I apologize for the poor build and the VGA pictures; this is my first finished medieval building, rockwork, and landscaping, and MOCpages upload, and I would appreciate comments and suggestions a lot... Here begins Julie L.E.E.P.'s story.

A few important comments before the story:

  • First, please try to read all the way through, as it will help you understand the build. If you don’t have the time, you can skip to the 3rd section where I introduce myself and explain the build.

  • Second, I have been having problems with the photo uploader, so be aware that this was built the week of the king’s murder.

  • Lastly, since this was uploaded on the simple uploader, and also since I just recently damaged my camera, the pictures aren't that nice, but they work.li>

Let’s pretend. Those words, sadly, are not heard nearly enough now… and you can see the results. The results, you ask? Some would say it shows in the fact that world powers can just invade countries without being punished, while others would say it is the fact that Obama is still our president. But no matter what your opinions are, the leave from imagination has taken its toll on most Americans. Many would blush and laugh that awkward laugh (used when it isn’t appropriate to laugh, but you need to fill up the silence) if you told them, “Let’s pretend.”

But, as a favor for me, and for yourself, would you please pretend with me for a few minutes?

Pretend that you are in a realm where literally only your imagination-- and your bricks-- are the limits. Welcome to the battered, down-trodden, but essentially the best faction in the Lands of Mythron-- Mythron itself… a faction which has just been upheaved by the cowardly murder of the late King Rowan Richards by a mysterious, sinister, masked one… one of those who call themselves together under the name of The Black Lotus.

Now, if, three days after the murder, you had risen at 5 in the morning, and (quite sleepily) gotten ready and trudged to section 13 of Mythron, and if you had followed just the right side path, you would soon arrive at a slightly dilapidated and overgrown one-room cottage. And, if you waited for a few minutes, a girl would soon appear out of the foliage, holding a bucket of water, and would walk into the cottage. She would then soon come back out with a bunch of official-looking letters in her hand.

That girl, the one who would appear, would be (Ranger) Julie Liberia Evelyn-Esca Papalatronus … a petite, pretty, athletic, and dark-brown-haired 16-year-old girl who, not only would have an astonishingly long name to boast, but also the fact that she is one of the best Mythronian Ranger’s best apprentices in almost all ways… or should I say was.
For, only a 2 weeks ago, I think it was, that her mentor and fatherly-figure, a senior Ranger in the field, Carl Cist Kenswiner, or C.C., was brutally murdered while investigating rumors about the Black Lotus, his corpse being left at burned remains of his-- and Julie’s-- cabin. Now, it is extremely hard to murder a Ranger, but a senior Ranger? It was definitely more than one assassin, and all must have been well-trained to avoid their prey getting away… It probably wouldn’t have been a mystery to Julie and the Ranger Council anyway, if a note from the assassins hadn’t been found, but the note, signed by three Black Lotus assassins, confirmed that they had killed Carl.

It was in this setting, that Julie sat down on the steps of the cabin she recently bought with Carl’s leftover money (as he had left it all to her), and opened the letters sent to her…

But, I fear we are out of time.

What, you want to continue? *sly grin* Really?

Well, that’s fine by me. But first, I must get out of this astonishingly annoying passive tense, and also back-track in our story a little so you can understand a little better…

****

Julie woke up at normal waking hours-- around 5-- and sat in bed shivering for a while. Then, bracing herself, she got out of bed, and changed into her winter Ranger’s uniform (as it was still quite cold)[next build will have her in her normal Ranger gear.-JLP], chattering all the while. She went through her daily chores-- make breakfast, get water from the well, feed her horse and dog, chop wood, etc.-- although a bit numbly. A lot was on her mind. You know those days when you feel overloaded, and stressed? Maybe a day in which you have six tests and quizzes in one day-- on Wednesday, hump day -- the day that happens to be your mom’s birthday-- and you forgot to get her a card and a present…

But that kind of overloaded is nothing at all compared what Julie was feeling. For, the Ranger Council had told her that she was going to have to hold her own in Ranger Area #13, since with the recent discovery of the Black Lotus, and several Ranger murders, their senior and regular Rangers were all desperately needed in their areas. So, she had the authority of a regular Ranger-- a Silver Ranger. Normally being promoted would have made her feel deliriously happy, but now she only felt a deep pit of emptiness. She wasn't prepared, wasn't officially old enough, was the first girl to ever enter the Ranger society, and still felt prejudice from some of the classically-trained Rangers.

All in all, I think it is sufficient to say that today wasn't one of her best days.

But she still had to go through the motions, to live, even as she was numb from the many attacks on Rangers and common people alike. That, for her, was the hardest part. It seemed as if the Black Lotus’ were taking out as many valuable peace-makers and fighters as they could before they would strike as hard as they could. And, any Ranger, whether bronze or elite, was considered valuable.

Anyway, after she finished her chores, she went inside to collect the official papers that had been sent to her from the Ranger Council, and sat down on her front steps outside… a lot of trouble was brewing…

After sorting through the first couple letters from friends, all counseling her on the loss of Carl, she found what she was looking for.

The high king was dead.

She wasn’t really shocked, as strong rumors had been circulating recently, but she had hoped against hopes that it wouldn’t be real.

So, she had a lot to think about. Should she try and join Prince Sadon’s entourage going to Reedus to crown him High King, or should she try to rally and protect ‘her’ people in her Ranger Area (#13)? Would they even listen to her if she tried?

As she sat down, she started to analyze the official papers that had been sent in by the Ranger Council. As well with three other Rangers, two apprentices, and a retired Ranger in the past couple days. And two, one Silver and one Bronze, master and apprentice, were also missing.

"Is this even worth it anymore?" she thought. "Should I just join the Black-- no, Julie, don’t think like that. After all, they follow a plant. And, a black plant to be exact-- a color not even good enough to be in the rainbow, after all! For the black plant just isn't an inspiring rallying call. And, they have killed probably hundreds by now, some known, and others unknown."

She sighed, and lay down her crossbow on the grass. (She was borrowing her Will’s crossbow-- Will was her best friend--, as her bow had been damaged beyond salvaging. Another bow was being made for her. In the meantime, she would learn the secrets of the crossbow, and cross her fingers that her new bow would come soon.)

“And, they killed Carl,” she thought, anger swelled up in her chest like uncomfortably warm syrup.

"But, then, what will happen to the people? I am not nearly competent enough to start fortifying this huge forest and the few villages in between!" She held her head in her hands in frustration as she thought, and let out a groan. "If only someone would help me decide what to do!" Then, suddenly, as if a light went off somewhere, quiet but noticeable, the path she would take was decided

She stood up, and said quietly, and with resolve, to no one in particular, but to everyone who might listen, “I don't know how long Mythron will stand up against Rainos, the Black Lotus, or anything or one else in the dark storm rising, but…” she trailed off, shouldering her crossbow, and then continued it in her mind, I am only ever going to answer to one call:

FOR MYTHRON!

She made her way back to her cabin-- with a new resolve-- it was time to rally her people, if she could. But first she would write a letter to the Ranger Council and Prince Sadon: she would stand firmly behind them.

She was so preoccupied with her thoughts that she didn't notice the armored man behind the rocks leading up to the outpost.

He was crouching like a panther, ready to strike if it was the right moment to do so.

And, he was dressed in total black, with a few streaks of dark red. A filthy Rainosian, with a blood-stained sword, discolored, patched-up clothing, and a red-and-black scorpion breastplate.

Also a member of the Black Lotus.

An assassin.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: The Rangers (see Ranger’s Apprentice, which this group is based off! It is the most awesome series ever! After Harry Potter, of course… and The Hu- never mind, okay it is one of the most awesome series ever.) are an elite group of fighters who are assigned to sections of the land of Mythron to keep the peace and, if necessary, protect those living there. They are generally thought as intimidating, but trusted and loyal, although they all have an independent streak. Their normal weapons are: bow/arrows (they are definitely the best group of shooters in all the land), a throwing knife (perfectly balanced), an axe knife (also perfectly balanced for throwing, although bigger-- with both of these knives, one can perform the Double-knife Defense against swordsmen), and two angular, hard stones (I forget the name of) connected by a removable cord to knock people out, as they prefer not to kill unless absolutely necessary (taking a human life is a terrible thing to do, and must only be done if another is in danger of losing his/her life). All are intelligent, and are skilled in disguise.

They are arranged by rankings: Bronze Rangers (apprentices), Silver Rangers (normal Rangers assigned to sections of the land), Gold Rangers (retired Rangers), and, the newly formed Elite Rangers, a group of Rangers that go on specialized missions as dictated by the Ranger Council and/or the high king.

Okay, now that the terrible story is over, I guess I’ll introduce myself. My screen name is Julia LeeP (from which this character is named), and I believe I have the quite honorable position of being the first female Mythronian in the history of the land (if I'm wrong, please hasten to correct me). I am a young TFOL who just started building seriously recently, so excuse me, and please critique to your heart’s desire, if my builds drastically need work. I just discovered the Lands of Mythron a little over a week ago now, and already am having much fun exploring it.

I’m sorry that this story is quite disorganized; I have not been writing much recently, thus, my writing is quite unoiled. But still, notice that I was able to weave in some symbolism in here. E.g., If you found a black plant, would you think it is healthy?, etc.

A signature of mine is to often include frogs, whether green, grey, or hot pink in my builds. So, look out for the frogs. In this scene, there are three frogs… can you find them all?

The cottage used to be a woodcutter’s. It was sold to Julie by his widow. The build is kind of sad, I know, as I was supposed to wait for an order of bricks to come in that would allow me to build a full dark forest landscape, but ever since Freeling uploaded the Regicide build, I was itching to write, build, and just give my input on the dark storm rising. An interesting concept, the Black Lotus is.

Anyway, for this build I had three things that I wanted to do/practice:

  • First, a medieval building. Umm, did I mention that I have never finished one of these before? (No wonder the roof looks like it is… not a roof.)

  • Second, I wanted to include a little bit of landscaping in the front. Umm, did I also mention that I have never done this before? Oops.

  • Third, and lastly, I wanted to include rockwork in this MOC. I have never done rocks before, never mind SNOT rocks, and, well, you can see the results… (although, oddly enough, I realize now that building the rockwork is when I had the most fun, so I guess I'll do more of that in the future).

I’m not sure, but I think I was a little too ambitious here… but whatever, you gotta start somewhere, right?

Anyway, please take a second to comment and rate! This is my first finished medieval building, and I am quite displeased with it, especially concerning the roof, the rockwork, and the landscape (the thing that looks like a slab of green with pokey stuff on top), which I think are sloppy jobs. So if you have any helpful suggestions, please, throw them out here..

More pictures, no time to caption. Please, click on the photos to enlarge, otherwise you cannot see them well (at all) . Also, I know that the door slants in; I forgot to close it properly and it is off one hinge... please ignore that.

Side picture, please click to expand.

Top picture, please click to expand.

The roof taken off. That odd tan rectangle is supposed to be a straw mattress.

The single room. I forgot to secure to chest, so ignore that also. The last frog is in there (the chest), and I had a picture for it, but it won't load... Please click to expand.

The crumbling rockwork and, oh, what is that fella up to? Click to expand.

Thanks for looking, and please leave a comment if you can!

Soli Deo Gloria.

Quoting Kai Bernstein Nice work! Both the story and build are quite good; the latter is so because it's your first medieval building and rockwork. Judging by that, and that you are disappointed with the house - you know you can do better - means Mythron has gained a very valuable member. Welcome (belatedly) to LOM!

Free, when you have the chance, I need to talk to you about the mess that happened last night... which, was partly my fault as I overreacted and turned sarcastic towards the end... I guess I'll check in to see if you're on the neat chat later...

Thanks for the comment,Freeling! Although, you know that this isn't my first MOC, right?... just my first medieval one...

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga VERY nice story! The roof looks better than you thought- black plates work fine in something this size. The door has some nice textures in it with the SNOTted bricks. For the rockwork, there's a nice mix of small slopes and angles, but everything is pointing up. I think it would look better if you used some grey SNOT bricks and attached some cheese slopes sideways to break up the squares. Overall, though, very nice for your first build, and very gripping writing! BTW, can I include you and a ranger or two in an upcoming build?
Oh... I just realized that my answer didn't answer your question (to whether you could use both Julie and some rangers). Sorry about that. Anyways, the answer to that is a little more complicated. It sort of matters whether or not you are (or are planning on being) a Black Lotus member. If you are, I guess you could be that dude in my story in my intro if you need to use her before the end of this month, for the UC. That would work nicely if you want to show the assassin reporting back to base camp on Julie. But if not, I think it might be better for you to wait until the ranger MBC thing comes out (sometime in the next two weeks probably). That is when Julie will be meeting up with another ranger (or two) and some... things happen. I'm afraid to say more than that right now and here. Sorry that those are constricting options, but I sorta need to control Julie's plot line carefully now.

Thanks! I'm glad people like my writing, although I can't say it's in top form right now... oh well, in a couple of chapters it should be back to normal. Thanks a lot for the feedback, which I really appreciate, also. About the rockwork, I actually did throw in a couple of SNOTted grey angles, but I don't think that they show up well here. About the Rangers, I am kind of on the line here. I sort of want to do a MBC on them before they take the world by storm, but since I allowed Ian to use one, I think it would be unfair to not allow you to too. Although, I would really like appreciate if you could copy my description of the Rangers from here and paste it at the end of your MOC (and include the link) so that people could have some background from my side of things. Also, I guess you might have already seen this, but please see what I said to Ian about the uniform. Wow. That was long. But Rangers are complicated, so I guess it is only fitting that this is long. ;)

Quoting Gilbert Despathens Ha ha ha, there's a nice description of you in here, Freeling, O "mysterious, sinister, masked one" who murders kings in a cowardly manner. ... Freeling's probably not going to even read that. Oh, well, it made me laugh. Welcome to MOCpages and the Lands of Mythron (officially this time)! The build reminds me of my first one. Here's a useful hint - when uploading pictures, there's an option at the bottom of the screen to change the size. Large works best, but starting a Flickr account and carrying your images over from there works even better. That's enough from a filthy Rainosian for now - good luck and don't let the black flowers bite.
Thanks for the comment and photo advice! It made me laugh when I saw you wrote that this build reminded you of your first. Then, I guess I still have a chance at this medieval stuff... And notice, I didn't say that all Rainosians were filthy. I do hope a(n) (un)respectful Rainosian general such as yourself wouldn't be visibly dirty... after all, Rainos was my third-from-the-top choice, although Mythron didn't give it much of a chance, of course...

Yup. I have had the 70th hold on it since last year ;). Can't say it was one of my favorite's from him, but it was well-written, especially with the value of human life that was woven into it, unlike his prior books. And ALYSS (is that how you spell it?) DIED! But still, I'm sad it's over. I think my favorite book was Halt's Peril, especially since Halt was my absolute favorite character... And thanks for the comment!

Quoting Ian ... Could I have a Mythronian Ranger in my UC build maybe?
I... well, it is kind of complicated. I don't mean to be strict or anything, but I just put the finishing touches on the Ranger uniform from different pieces, some of which I ordered specifically. So, I'm sorry, I guess the answer is no... unless... well, I'll tell you what the uniform is, but I doubt you'd have all the pieces. For a Mythronian Ranger: Mirkwood Elf Archer uniform, with black gloves, a brown quiver, and a black cloak. A forest green hood is optional. Rides brown or black horse. For a Nerougian Ranger: the same stuff, except optional skin-colored hands, and a maroon (dark red) cloak.

Quoting Ian ... Definitely a great story. You have good writing skills. I think this build is definitely very good since this is your first. There is one or more other girls in LOM, but none are really that active. I can't wait to see more from you, especially because I love the Ranger's Apprentice. Great Job!
Thanks Ian! I'm glad you like this story although it isn't exactly one of my best... and about the girl-in-the-LOM-thing, I meant in the faction of Mythron. I think I confused some people on that note. Oh, and a Ranger Apprentice fan! Yippee! It's a good series, right? Anywho, I'm glad that you have read it because it might help you understand what will be going on through Julie's life.
