Another Megalosaur!!
About this creation
Yep it is another Megalosaurus, but this time the whole thing. Approximately 1.8m from nose to tip of the tail.

My second professional build working for Bright Bricks the Certified Lego Professionals in the UK. I received lots of help and advice from Ed Diment (Lego Monster).

Currently on display at the Dorset Museum in Dorchester, UK.

Wow. I am amazed at how FANTASTIC this creation is! I sent you an invite to the group: "the brick awards" because you are this month's top builder! I hope you will accept the invite as we would really love to have you in the group. Thanks, and a good job!

Thanks guys, the curves were very challenging expecially the 45 degree angle of the neck which has an internal technic structure to achieve. All the other curves were created by using traditional brick sculpting. The facial expression was achived by creating a frown over the eyes - I am very pleased with the outcome. Thank you all for the interest :)

Really nice, natural feel to the weight distribution in the pose. The angle of the head and the curve of the tail creates a lovely composition, as well. Beautifully done. By the way, I really enjoyed the WIP shots and seeing how the interior was handled.

I've rarely, if ever, seen anything like this. Considering this is made of small pieces of plastic, it's very realistic and even somewhat scary-looking. I really like the pose, too. It looks like it's roaring to intimidate something, though I wouldn't know what creature wouldn't be intimidated by the mere presence of a Megalosaur to begin with. Great work!

Quoting Peter Szabo Hi Joe! It's another fantastic mouth dropping experience! The final picture and the movement of the dinosaur reminds me 2 pictures from Jurassic Park! I'm thinking about these: http://mozistar.hu/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/jurassic.jpg and the final fighting scene in the museum hall http://popcorn.blogin.hu/files/2013/05/800px-jurassic_park_screenshot_41.jpg Sorry I haven't found better pictures! Anyway congratulation for this creation again! You did a good job - awesome!
Hi Peter, this pose was inspired by the first image,I wanted the head to be lower than the tail. The tail is curved to fit into the small display area. Thanks for the comment mate.

Quoting Delatron 3000 Awesome stuff Joe, I'm proper jealous of your job! I was lucky enough to meet Ed at the offshore show in Aberdeen last year and he was brill, I totally hogged his time - I don't think he was expecting to run into an AFOL at a show like that! Keep up the amazing work, I look forward to seeing more like this.
Thanks Stu. Ed is a fantastic builder and a great guy, he is essentially my boss. He helped me a lot with the shape of the back (above the legs) and the integration of the tail, which believe it not was the toughest part of this build. The rest was quite straight forward using trial and error. The Head was first, then the feet, legs, body/neck then the curving tail (which was a nightmare)

@Matt and Elk, thanks guys. I am certainly living the dream and I am glad it is showing in my work. It took a lot of work getting the pose right, the client wanted the old style pose of the dino being uptight (like godzilla) and I had to persuade them ro accept this more dynamic pose.

Hi Joost, thank you for the wonderful comment. I still feel slightly anxious about posting these builds. I am privileged to be able to make such big builds and have access to all these pieces. It's very fragile, no? Anyway, this is really best quality lego building here! One of the best creations I've seen! 10/5 8-)

Quoting David Roberts Another brilliant creation. The WIP photos are a fascinating insight into the process and it's great to see that big builds like this can be just Lego, with no steel inside. Thank you for sharing both the finished product and the building story.
You are very welcome David, thank you for your comments and continued support. I thought I would include WIP photos as many people asked for them for the previous Megalosaur. There is some steel threaded bar coming out of the feet to secure it to base, but it has no structural function. The dinosaur is completely self supporting and balanced.

Quoting Matt Bace Absolutely brilliant! The details and shaping, especially on the head, are just amazing. I guess one of the great things about building a dinosaur is that exposed studs are actually a plus -- they contribute to the scaly look of the skin.
