The Mare in the Moon returns!
About this creation
100 Piece Brick Built Figure Contest

So for those of you unaware, this is a MOC based off of the My Little Pony Character: Nightmare Moon. If you would like some more information on her, here is the opening story from the first episode:

“Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were two regal sisters who ruled together, and created harmony for all the land. To do this, the eldest used her unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn; the younger brought out the moon to begin the night. Thus, the two sisters maintained balance for their kingdom and their subjects, all the different types of ponies. But as time went on, the younger sister became resentful. The ponies relished and played in the day her elder sister brought forth, but shunned and slept through her beautiful night. One fateful day, the younger unicorn refused to lower the moon to make way for the dawn. The elder sister tried to reason with her, but the bitterness in the young one's heart had transformed her into a wicked mare of darkness: Nightmare Moon. She vowed that she would shroud the land in eternal night. Reluctantly, the elder sister harnessed the most powerful magic known to ponydom: the Elements of Harmony. Using the magic of the Elements of Harmony, she defeated her younger sister, and banished her permanently in the moon. The elder sister took on responsibility for both Sun and Moon and harmony has been maintained in Equestria for generations since.”

That is until a 1000 year period has passed. Now it is the time for the Mare in the Moon to make her return! Behold! Nightmare Moon! “Remember this day, little ponies, for it is your last. From this moment forth, the night will last forever!”

Here, have some music to go along with your night.

I'm not sure what brought me to build her. It's not like I build brony MOCs all the time since this is my second one, but for some reason, I had the inspiration to build a pony. Especially since my other idea which I put way too many bricks in was a Mars Mission Macro Figure, I have no idea what made me do it.

Rotation Pics

The legs, wings, and head can be moved due to how they are connected, but balance is not always achieved.

I also never managed to get any mystery pieces in the build, but considering the scale and how reasonable those pieces would have looked on her, I decided to go the safe route and make a more aesthetically pleasing creation than try to win those extra points.

Here is a reference picture for the judges.

Piece Count

Head: 20 pieces

Body: 9 pieces

Wings: 14 pieces

Front Left Leg: 11 pieces

Front Right Leg: 7 pieces

Hind Legs: 20 pieces

Mane and Tail: 21 pieces

A grand total of 102 pieces

And for the judges; one fianl question in the words of her reborn self as Princess Luna:

Quoting matt rowntRee I knew you were a bronie. XD This gal works. It was a fair trade on the MPs to go with the aesthetic vision. I think I am most blown away at the complete departure from the Mission to Mars mech you were working on earlier. I have to say that it is always a tough decision to scrap an idea, but if it isn’t working, it’s actually quite an easy one. I see some interesting part usage here with the black vine shaping the wing and those new half cone pieces for hooves. I think the background is detracting a bit from the horse though. I understand the complete picture, but it is really not a necessary thing to add. In the grand scheme of character, her face says it all. The posture and color define her as a Pony that is evil, not quite Princess Luna yet. She’s got a ‘tude and will open up that can if you get in her way. Outstanding!
It's not a background, it's her mane and tail. If I had weird floaty mystical pieces, I would use them, but we don't live in the 4th Dimension. I'm not even sure if we're entirely complete comprehending the 3rd Demension let alone trying to advance us to the next one. If I didn't put them there, then everyone would wonder where the mane and tail were. It's a Catch 22, but I still feel like those elements are necessary since they are a part of her. But anyway, thank you for the compliments.

Quoting sam the first @MCLegoboy: No! It's not you, don't worry. You're cool. It's people at school....especially primary.
Well, not much anyone can do with them.
Quoting Dr. Monster Neat figure. Interesting subject choice.
Thanks.
Quoting Keith Goldman My daughter thinks you should win and is trying to strong arm me into building a copy. She likes it alot better than my entry. I'm not sure whether to thank you or not, but you have one big fan. Good luck in the contest, this is very well built.
Well... I do have instructions. :3 I wanted to rebuild her after the pieces were photographed and I wanted to make sure everything was perfect again so I took pictures with each bit of deconstruction. Thanks!
Quoting Justin M Dude... :P

Quoting Tim C I'm really enjoying seeing these later entries. I know you were having trouble with the piece restriction on your first attempt, (which, BTW, I can't wait to see finished), but I like seeing what direction you went. I'm not the most familiar with My Little Pony, only what I've picked up from my daughter, but from what I've seen, it looks like you represented Nightmare Moon quite well. Nice job, and best of luck in the contest.
Thanks!

Quoting Timothy Dillman Great build, I only have 2 questions, 1;What is this stuff to which you refer, and 2;Why is it I have only recently heard about it at all?
I refer to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It has developed a very interesting following of teenage and college aged males and a considerably smaller group of females. Basically anyone who is a fan of the show that is not within its target demographic is considered a Brony. Because of the majority of the following, Bro+Pony=Brony. Why you haven't heard of the phenomena is interesting since it has been going strong for four years now with a 5th Season confirmed.
Quoting Stephan N The pony looks really fantastic. I like the wings and hooves particularly well. Great Moc
Thanks. The hooves are what started it all.

Thanks!
Quoting Stephen Boe No! It can't be! It can't be! You can't be a brony!! Awesome build, but.....*hyperventilates*
How often have I bothered you with pony stuff? Seeing as how you are just now finding out I am a fan of the show, that would make it clear that I don't obsess over the show so much that I bother other people. I'm sorry you are having trouble breathing.
Quoting MortalSwordsman . a unique build and totally unexpected. I really like the angle of the head and how the legs splay out toward the toes/hoofs. Good luck
Ponies have weird anatomy, what can I say? Thanks!

Quoting sam the first I ...I'm not sure what to say. A great MOC, but If I didn't have to put up with bronies at school, I'd see the humor. Still quite funny, best of luck to you!
Oh come on. I do this one time after two years and I still get the weird reactions. I get it though. I do my best to not obsess over the show and to not annoy others with my interests. Also, the ones who do obsess and only talk about the show are even annoying to me so I totally get it. It's so weird.

Quoting M<0><0>DSWIM ! So now I get to point and laugh at you for building a character for girls! Ha, just kidding. Even without mystery pieces, you've got some great parts usage going on. Looks pretty accurate too.
Well there aren't a lot of female characters in Star Wars so where else am I supposed to go to make them! :)
Quoting Cheryl P A very beautiful and poetic piece.
Thanks
Quoting Michael Rutherford Mr. MCLegoboy, I find your choice of parts for the hoofs to be particularly effective. The white really brings out their shape. The fact that the figure is black makes it especially difficult to photograph well, but you have done an excellent job here. I have mixed feelings about the floating blue background. It fits with the figure absolutely. But I wonder if using the parts on the figure itself would not have gleaned you some more advantage. I guess you can’t go wrong if you build what looks best though. Attack!
Luckily for me, I picked up four of the Kyshyyyk Battle Packs to use those pieces. The blue background is actually her mane and tail. I didn't design the character, I just built it out of bricks. There are a few characters with weird floaty mystical stuff for their manes and tails in the show. It's weird.

Quoting Alex Sonny D'awwwww. Even if I'm not into ponies I find the cartoon cute and well drawn (I guess). This, however looks very neat, you managed to translate the concept very well into lego - making it look more like an actual pony/unicorn than a cartoon character. Great job!
Thanks!
