Arctic Yeti Secret Base, AKA: Pentakis Icosahedron Lego Geodesic Dome
While the Yetis may appear to be innocent researchers on the surface, there is more going on underground
About this creation
6 months in the making, and FAR too many bricklink purchases (and a Lego store case of white 2x4's) and I give to you the Yeti Research base. The most enjoyable, and challenging part of this build was the geodesic dome, which is technically a pentakis icosahedron. Originally, it was to be a partially submerged dome intended to be an igloo, but as always with my MOCs, things got out of hand, and it ended up being a fully above ice geodesic dome. And with my 6 year old son involved in the design process, we decided to make sections of ice that can be removed revealing the REAL purpose of the base, an illegal arms dealing operation. The Americans arrive via submarine at the underground submarine base, which has an opening on the front left. The Russians arrive via hovercraft, Yetis travel in their twin rotor chopper and the tracked snowcat. The Chinese donning Mongolian hats bought out majority share in the operation and are the front me for the sentient Yetis.

Underground there is also a greenhouse where the Yetis have enlisted the world's top hydroponics experts to grow fresh fruits for them (excess heat is release through the Friends basketball net ventilation shafts seen near the tent camp). There is also a command & control center run by laid off elves (Santa's been outsourcing too folks), and the Alien supercomputer which provides unlimited clean energy to run the entire facility. The mezzanine, which is accessible via the original cave entrance as well as entrances on the back of the MOC, which I unfortunately failed to photograph, has 3 secret compartments holding machine guns for sale. There is a bridge crane, which is used to move the ICBM's, and several holding cells. Hopefully I will get a chance to take this to a Lego event this year so the lucky ones of you can see all the trap doors, hibernation chambers, and extra bonus items that are too numerous to cite or show here. Enjoy!

This is huge and impressive build but its amazing details are hidden away in the small photos. There's all of those different vehicles, plus some great structures. The landing pad looks excellent put the piece de resistance has to be the icosahedral dome. I love how the panels that fill the frame are brick-built and there aren't huge gaps: skilful building!

Quoting A SwordFish I love the way you went about the ice/water. Very clever. I would have liked it if the pictures were a bit bigger as well, but that doesn't take anything away from such an impressive build. Excellent work. Please check out my newest Moc if you get the chance. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/388670 Thanks and Keep it up!
Thanks Swordfish! Yeah, I wish I had opted for the full-size pics whenI uploaded this, may even go back and re-upload them. There was just so much going on with this MOC, both above and below ground, that it was a serious challenge to limit the number of pics as much as I did. And even now, I am working on larger dome designs on this one... And my son refuses to even discuss taking it apart, need a bigger house now...

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 very impressive and beautiful! I like the water technique!
Thanks, my son wants more removable water so there is more fun for his play, but i've had too much to do lately to redo it properly. Then in Toys R Us a couple days ago i saw the Arctic sets, which i have been racing to beat.
