May UC: The Black Lotus - Unmasked
The Black Lotus Leader has been unmasked!
About this creation

See a high-quality picture on Flickr here.

Darvainian finally managed to find Sozo the Ger - now Coordinator of the Outlaws several weeks ago, thanks to Jaldor's suggestion. From there Darvainian and Sozo joined a Black Lotus group like many others to track down the leaders of the Black Lotus. It wasn't long before they met Heolstor, and after proving their skills in combat, Heolstor took them on to be his more or less trustworthy "lesser Black Lotus scouts." Heolstor being a main ambassador of the Black Lotus Leadership frequently talked with the mysterious inner circle. However, after Freeling abandoned the Black Lotus, Heolstor started to question the Black Lotus leadership. Heolstor had talked with Freeling and even looked up to him. Freeling's leave made Heolstor suspicious.

The last straw came when the Black Lotus Leader (named in this story as HE or HIM because no one except the BL leadership have ever seen HIM) told Heolstor that he would not be participating in the huge battle against Mythron. Heolstor had enough. He dicided that he would confront HIM when he would be on foot. He took with him Nazgair and Zonag (Darvainian and Sozo, but Heolstor did not know that) to challenge HIM, reasoning that he himself should become the leader of the Black Lotus.

- Heolstor is the one with the traditional mask
- Darvainian is the one with the eye mask
- Sozo is the one with the scythe.
- BL stands for Black Lotus.
- the BL inner council and the BL leadership mean the same thing.

(for the most part, everyone is whispering as to not wake anyone up which would put themselves in danger)

Heolstor: This is where HE is staying, and and maybe a few others should be coming out of this building at any moment now. Keep silent!

- They walked silently beside the house

- Heolstor peeks around the corner...
Heolstor: Here they come!

- Heolstor, Darvainian, and Sozo crouch along the ground...

Mage: I sense something...

HE: What?

Mage: Them...

- Epic stance

HE: Heolstor, what brings you here in the dark at such a time?
Heolstor: I'm done with your ignorance and cowardice. You are to step down from being leader of the Black Lotus. I am replacing you.

HE: Foolishness boy! Foolishness! You think I'd come out here without some sort of protection? How many people do you think want my head?! If I go into battle, all of the focus will be on me, but if I stay out, I leave a sense of fear in the hearts of the Mythronian soldiers wondering what I might be doing! You have just crossed the line Heostor.
Mage....take care of Heolstor!
Mage: As you wish.

- The Mage lifted Heolstor into the air and started to inflict a low dose of pain on him.
Heolstor: Let go of me!
- evil laughs

- Suddenly, Sozo slammed his scythe onto the ground causing the area nearby to shake. That in turn caused the BL Leadership to stumble. It also caused the Mage to release his hold on Heolstor.

- After regaining himself, Heolstor charged at HIM, Darvainian followed.

- Sozo swung his scythe again, but this time he swung the sharp end and tried to strike the mage.

- Now angry, the mage released a strong gust of wind forward and blew to the ground Heolstor, Darvainian and Sozo. It also knocked down the Black Lotus leader.

- The gust was so strong that it blew off HIS mask. The mask was caught by Heolstor.

- There was silence for a moment, for very few people ever saw HE's face. Not even the mage had seen it (for the mage was not part of the inner circle - rather about the same rank as Heolstor).

- Once HE stood up, it was clear who HE was.
Heolstor, Darvainian, Sozo: Borin!
Heolstor: Sadon's brother?! What madness is this!
Mage: What?!

Mage: That means...all you're trying to do is gain the throne for yourself! You sent that assassin of yours, Freeling, to kill King Sadon so that you would become king next! That's why you were all extremely frustrated when Freeling refused and left. You are using all of us for your own will! No doubt you expect Mythron's army coupled with some of Nerogue's help to devastate us! You are setting us up to lose and claim yourself as a hero when you ride into battle as Borin! You and your filthy inner council. The irony is, that the inner council of Mythron is no doubt the Black Lotus inner council.

Mage: You will pay with your...
Borin: DIE!
- And with that, Borin thrust his sword into the Mage's stomach.

- Borin and one of the inner council members ran off...
Heolstor: You won't get away!

- Borin quickly scaled the wall; hoping to make an escape on the horse.

Heolstor: You'll never escape you abomination!

- Borin broke through the gate and sped off on a horse, Heolstor yelling in anger after him.

Heolstor: Come back here you coward!

Heolstor: UUUGH! Nazgair, where is that other Black Lotus council member?
Darvainian (Nazgair): Taken care of sir.
Heolstor: GARRR! I must tell my army to flee before it is too late! We will surely lose against Borin's plan! Out of my way, I'm getting a horse.

- Heolstor, out of anger, tore the gate to one of the horses out of the ground and slammed it against the ground.

Heolstor: Out of my way... You will pay Borin! YOU WILL PAY!
- At that, Heolstor sped off on the horse in pursuit of Borin.

Darvainian: Wow.
Sozo: How corrupt can a person be? Borin - THE Leader of THE Black Lotus?!
Darvainian: More corrupt than one would hope. Let's get out of the open before people start coming out here.

- After that, Darvainian and Sozo parted ways. But they knew that the Black Lotus inner council would soon find out about their cover being blown, and would thus need to be caught sooner rather than later. But now there are more important things to worry about - the impending battle between Mythron and the Black Lotus army.

David, this is wonderful. I must admit, I am the worst in the community at keeping up with people's stories. It's not that I have an aversion to reading, (I'm actually an avid reader when this blasted hobby isn't getting in the way), it's just that I have so little time on my hands. I did, however, go through the text on this one and I find that the story has a bit of intrigue and has some of the elements of an excellent fantasy story, but it's the MOCs that really grab my attention, so to that: I love love this build. Some of the details that stand out to me are the roof and the stables. I like how you added the swinging gates in the stables. My favorite parts are the predominately dk bley area at the bottom of the house, (very reminiscent of your work with Wright's architecture), and the area of the house that is made up of angled slopes. That area especially made me say, "Oooh!" when I saw it. Literally. And if you knew me, you would know how significant it is that I said, "Literally." Excellent work, David. Keep it up.

Quoting Grant Davis Impressive how you got those dark looking photos, was that edited or real photos? The one dark shot I have tried to do took me like 2 hours to photograph. Nice one man
Two or three of the dark photos are real. What I did was turn down the exposure on my camera when it was starting to get dark (I was inside and light was coming through a door window). It was still too bright, so yes, I edited the photos (with GIMP) and just turned down the overall brightness of the photo. (I would also sometimes darken the white areas outside of the MOC more than the overall photo) Hopefully next time I'll be able to take pictures when it is a little darker outside than what it was when I did it this time. Thanks Grant!
Quoting Grant Davis @Those 3 down there... What Eli and normally do, as we screen all of each others builds, is just like the creation, and only comment if we have something to say about the build that he didn't put in the description or are responding to a comment.
We mostly comment on other people's builds so it made sense for us to do that with each other. For us, I think that we look forward to each other's comments because usually it'll name something specific about the build (in this case, Andrew saw how weirdly this had to be built and pointed that out).

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate it :)
Quoting Thomas of Tortuga
Thanks Thomas! Yeah, I had to rush the magic effects a bit...
Quoting Kai Bernstein
Thanks Kai! Yeah I agree that some more color could have worked there with the light bley.
Quoting Kai Bernstein Ah...David, thank you. All complaints I've voiced about the BL being defeated at every turn...it's okay in light of this. It all makes sense now. It works, it's realistic. This story has, in my eyes, saved LOM.
Haha, thanks :) We had this part of the story planned out for quite a while and couldn't release it till now. I'm glad that it all now makes sense :)
Quoting cyberfrank 2010 is it me, or you don t post much these days? in any case, I love this! the scene, action, story, figs design, special effects, superb! you make me want to build medieval again, great work!

I'm really not in to the mocs that tell stories. But that won't stop me from commenting on your creation. A great looking build. I really like how you did the roof. Just enough texture that doesn't get overdone. The rest of the details used in the building and landscape are quite nice.

I think that this is the third LOM Moc with the title "Unmasked"... previous ones being the ones by Jacob and Caleb. Now, as for the build... Really nice work! The minifigures are top notch, and the story is well written. The technique with the tilted pieces of wall on the second floor work really well. The stables are a great addition, and the inside wall of the stables is absolutely fantastic, even though it is mostly hidden. Beautiful job here!

Wow... That's so unbelievable... But yet it makes so much sense, oh great now I have another idea for my character intro, oh great build by the whay.

Really an appropriate climax to the saga of the Black Lotus, David! The building really looks large and impressive, as one would expect of the BL army's headquarters, and the addition of the large stables was perfect. I especially like the design on the rear of the stalls. IMO, the editing would have worked better if it was enhancing a Lego element, not when it's in midair- there are a few spots where the magic seems wobbly or too thin. The story is a tad fast-paced, but that's to be expected with the amount of backstory that you had to reveal. Finally, the BL minifigures look really good, probably some of the best renditions of the organization yet. Sozo looks twice as good with the newer Vader face, and the masks are really nice.

O.O WOW. This is epic. Great textures throughout! I especially love the stable, though rather simple, the stone textures work really well! Everything else is also really well done!

Great work! The layout/design is awesome, and some of those techniques (like the diagonal second level of the building) are truly fascinating. The roof is very good and I love that landscaping! The light bley masonry could be a bit better, though; it's a bit chaotic and could use some dark bley or tan highlights. I haven't read the story yet - I wanted to be the first to comment (which I've probably failed at anyway) - but I promise I will. :P

Yes! Wonderful build! I'm sure Halhi will critique some aspects of it, but it's very nice! The story was also a real gem!
