Ferrari California.
About this creation
I have really missed building cars so as soon as I had the opportunity to build one I got straight to work. This car will form part of a larger 1:30 scale project. I did not need to make it as detailed as this but I could not help myself. The figures are in scale with the car but they do not fit inside.

View of the detailed interior; steering wheel, dials, hand brake, diamond gear stick and seats.

Hope you like it.

It looks awesome, It's pretty smart making those minifigures larger to make the the car look like the appropriate size.

Here they come!! 8 studs wide cars. The result is stunning. Love all the SNOT technics you used and these little details: breaks, lights, coolers. The result perfectly fits your new scale figs.

This scale looks good, too, and hides challenges, as minifig scale, too. The car is great with that little upside-down technic on the side! :) Is this project a diorama, or a whole layout?

There's a song with this theme, no? something like California Dream :P Amazing job on this car, great to know you're making a bigger version.rear is surprisingly spot on, and the front is also recognizable. GREAT job.

Ahhhh... California in the 80's! A prosperous time of wonder, where every up and coming 30-something wore designer labels! Your shoulder-padded characters certainly would have fit right in! Ahhhh... California in the 80's! Where the highways of So. CA where filled with Mercedes, and the more than occasional Porsche, not to forget the often spotted Lamborgini and of, course, Ferrari! Very cool! :)

Quoting somi tomi For whatever reason I didn't read the first line, and while looking at the pics I thought "This looks prety much like a Ferrari California". And then I realised it's because it is a Ferrari California. Great build
thank you very much that is a great compliment. :)

Quoting sam the first A very very tricky car, so you did a great job there! Hoping for more cars now...(A '69 or '70 Dodge Charger, may I suggest?)
thanks sam, yeah not an easy car or scale. Hmmm I might give some American muscle a try.

Quoting matt rowntRee In spite of it not being properly red, this is fantastic! XD The tricky thing about all convertibles is if they look great with the top up or down. As I'm sure you have noticed most succeed only in one direction. This one works in both. Classy up, exhilarating down. Excellent!
Thanks matt, I much prefer my version with the top down but the real thing looks fantastic in both.

Quoting Nils O. Wow, Joe, that's awesome! I recognized it at the first look, even on the thumbnail. The level of detail is great. And there are so many new possibilities for shaping a car body with the new little curved slopes... And what a cool way to use two studs for some other body shaping ;-)) Great job! :-))
Thanks Nils. They are fantastic pieces especially for small scale cars.

Quoting M<0><0>DSWIM ! Very nice and smooth! Love the curviness of this. Have you thought of modifying those figs so that they CAN fit in the car? Maybe add a hinge brick to the torsos? Just curious.
Great idea I will give it a go. The car does not have much room inside but I might be able to get a torso in.

Quoting Henrik Jensen Excellent Ferrari California! Great selection of parts for headlights and tail pipes, you have also hit the curved line of the rear wing that continues diagonally downwards in the door. Good luck making Mr. and Mrs. Swordman fit in the car, they'll need to have their cottonpads removed from their shoulders, :-)
Hi Henrik, thank you for spotting that, it is my favourite detail.

A big thank you to all that have commented. I am pleased with the end result but I must admit it is quite a difficult scale to work in. Squeezing in details at this small scale was harder than I thought. I suppose you just need to pick a few distinguishing features and try your best to recreate them. I am particularly pleased with the side air intakes and the headlights. The rear lights were very difficult to do. Thanks guys.

Quoting clayton Marchetti Beautiful car Joe! Fabulous shaping all around and I love the disc brakes that's an awesome detail. I have to say the jewel stick shift made me laugh, that is so 80s I love it! The hard top looks fantastic as well. Those figures are great too. Excellent work!
Haha thanks clayton, I did go a bit overboard with this one, maybe I should call it Miami Dreaming ;)

Quoting Nick Barrett Diggin' the shoulder pads... It's funny how the Cali looks quite '80s here; maybe it's that *ahem* large behind. Nice build :-)

Quoting Nick Pascale I am beginning to enjoy your "to scale" people. I loved the car, there was a part I didn't recognize - so that was a treat. But I have a question - why didn't you have a picture with the couple in the car?
Thanks Nick. Although there are the correct scale the figures do not fully fit into the car. However I could probably fit their torsos in - I will experiment now. Watch this space...
