About this creation
Hi all,

this is my second take on this iconic truck of the seventies. The original model has been overworked several times, but as a 10w vehicle it was much too wide for the actual purposes. And since airport stuff becomes more important with the LCS and moving planes on an airfield it was the right time to rebuild the Faun.

Because of the introduction of the Jumbo Jets larger and more powerful Crash Tenders were needed also on European airports. One of the monsters of that time is this 8x8 ARFF, built on a Faun base with coachwork and firefighting equipment by Metz, propelled by a tank motor with 1.000 HP. Three of those giants were in service at Frankfurt Airport.

The truck is very known in Germany because of the famous die-cast model by SIKU, which was owned by many German boys.

Some more pics:

The battery box can be taken off to change the battery:

Thanks all for looking!

Thanks a lot guys. @David: Glad you like it! Yeah, it's got that 70s appeal ... @Gabor: Thanks pal. Well, you may take a look on Facebook ... ;-) @adam: Thanks a lot! @Nick: Thanks a lot for your kind words! @Matt: Glad you like it that much. It surely is a kind of freestyle MOC after all those technical things ... @Mr. Busy Hands: Thanks a lot! @Elk: Many thanks. I've always loved the original model, but it was useless for the town purposes. @Martin: Glad you like it!

I like this because it reminds me of my 1970s childhood spent on airbases.

Superb job on all of the details in this MOC! The mudguards are particular inspired, but there doesn't seem to be a detail anywhere that you have overlooked.

Quoting Nils O. Wow, what a great result, you've improved it a lot with this new version. I'm glad that I have some of those 9V lights and a few battery boxes in my basement for future projects :-)) Great job, pal! :-))
Thanks a lot bud. Yeah, the Light & Sound stuff is really nice, don't understand why TLG has abandoned all those nice functions ... Looking forward to your L&S projects! ;-)

Many thanks guys - didn't expect this reaction, I must say. @Steffen: Many thanks pal for your kind words. Glad you like the details - an 8w truck is quite the SNOT paradise if you are used to smaller rides with squeezed in minifigs, that's why I had a lot of fun with this one ... ;-) Yeah, I like #2 most, too. I've probably found a photographer for the project, which is really good news. @Cheryl: Glad you like it! @Dr. Monster: Thanks a lot. @sinan: Thanks pal! @Starscream Soundwave: Thanks a lot for your kind words. The Thunderbirds appeal: I can absolutely see what you mean. @Yann: Thanks a lot! @Steffen: Glad you like it! @Benjamin: Thanks bud. Sure is! Plain 8w is already oversized in terms of a city - just like your MAN. @Sven: Danke, danke, mein Lieber! Thanks for your kind words. I'll add a picture of the cockpit soon. @alex: Thanks a lot, glad you like it! @Henrik: Many thanks! I'll add some more pictures soon.

Just as I said on FlickR - this is one awesome machine, Marcus. I would build this type of vehicle in the same scale - 8-wide and a little wider at the fenders, mirrors, etc. . The water canon, the protruding fenders, the little set of lateral ladders, all the rips on the side and on top and of course the '1' really make it outstanding and very realistic. I'm a fan of the lighting as well, reminding me of some of the awesome 80s and 90s sets that I loved at the time. Yours is something like that - only much better, up-to-date and in the right scale for the kind of minifig towns you and I are envisioning... Two thumbs up from me. BTW. Picture #2 is my very favorite one:-) Best regards - Steffen

Like others have said, it has such smooth lines that at a glance it appears to be a die cast model! I really love that style it has to it, and like I said on Flickr it makes me think of the Thunderbirds. Excellent work Marcus!

Geil geil geil!!! In English "awesome awesome awesome" XD Wow Marcus, i'm really excited. First i thought it's the Siku model but then i noticed that it's made of bricks. You did a absolutely fantastic job on this iconic model. I really love it with all the nice details, working lights and the snot work especially on the number "1" Pretty cool. But like Henrik said before, a view of the front would be nice ;)

Excellent. Some very nice construction-ideas there! Would like to see a better closeup of the front/windshield of the vehicle.
