Goalkeeper
A World Cup "Goalkeeper".
About this creation
Rumor has it that after their poor showing in the 2014 World Cup, England will be recruiting from the Royal Navy to assemble their 2018 team. Let's see how those opposing attackers do against a GAU-8 firing 30mm shells at a rate of over 4,000 per minute.

Quoting Matt Bace Thanks! Too bad that this Goalkeeper is too big to be used in any practical ship model (it's about twice minifig scale). Otherwise, I might be tempted to build a model of the HMS Illustrious to make a home for it.
Yeah, too bad. That how true creations are made though! One small thing is created for a completly different project and then you decide to build some huge thing because of that tiny thing...

Quoting Nick Barrett Haha! We'll need something like this if we ever want to do well; right now our defence has more holes than a Swiss cheese... Still, well done USA!
Thanks! I didn't get to see the USA-Belgium match (I had to listen to it on the radio), but it sounds like our goalkeeper, Tim Howard put in a performance that was almost like this "Goalkeeper" despite the loss.

Quoting Stephan N just wonderful, it must be football.
Thanks! Football, indeed. I may have one more World Cup-inspired MOC left in me, but I don't know whether I'll have time to do it before the tournament ends. Maybe in 4 years.

Quoting Gabor Pauler Nice. One attack = one soccer ball deflated. Not mentioning the heads of attackers.
Indeed. Since it is designed to deal with incoming missiles travelling at Mach 3+, an attacker better have a very strong leg to get one by this goalkeeper. :-)

Quoting clayton Marchetti Hers a link to a video it's really awesome. I was wrong about the weight it's 23 lbs. projectile. http://www.wired.com/2014/04/electromagnetic-railgun-launcher/
Wow! That's amazing. The flames that shoot out of the muzzle are something I wouldn't have expected. It would make a great replacement for the 76mm guns that are on many navy ships today.

Quoting Joe Ramlet Ha ha, funny! However, still a very nice build. Great job!

Quoting Mariner 1000 Ha ha! I love it! Maybe if us Canadians did that we might make it past qualifiers! XD
Glad you like it! Canada might have a shot if they were ever allowed to use hockey sticks. :-)

Quoting Achintya Prasad Heh, Clever! Kinda reminds me how after the US/Belgium match, some people went to the Wikipedia article about the Secretary of Defense for the US and changed it to make it appear that our own goalie, Tim Howard was our new Secretary ;-)
Howard wouldn't be the first athlete to have earned the title "Secretary of Defense", but the Wikipedia thing is new -- It reminds me of the time I looked up a list of prehistoric mammals on Wikipedia, and found Shaquille O'Neal about half way down the list. :-)

I'm not even going to watch from inside the stadium -- best to watch this match on TV. :-)

Quoting clayton Marchetti That a work nicely ha ha ha! Have you seen the navy unveiled the new rail gun. Shots a 37 lb. projectile at Mach 7. Awesome
Thanks! I didn't know that they had a rail gun for use as a weapon, but I do know that new carriers are going to use rail guns, rather than steam catapults, to launch aircraft.

Quoting manthanboeing MAD Enemy team loses by default, players too scared to participate.
That strategy pretty much worked for the 1985 Chicago Bears (American) football team. Their defense was so good that most teams had mentally lost the game before they even stepped onto the field.
